Magpius -> Map Mod Questions (11/29/2019 10:26:18 AM)

Is it possible to change the font styles and colors of the map text?

denrbeach -> RE: Map Mod Questions (11/30/2019 9:31:35 PM)

Or maybe can the map be enriched in color, its pretty faint

Magpius -> RE: Map Mod Questions (12/2/2019 10:18:17 AM)

I'm kinda going for a desaturated map palette.[8|]

I really like where you are going, the simplified graphics and basic color set give it a basic operational map look.
Keep up the good work, looking forward to the release.

I think the font styles and colors are hard coded, I think I read a post from Alvaro about that, but I can't find it right now.

I love the classic style of your map. It would be amazing to get a look as close as possible to SPI's WiE map.

I would do it myself if I wasn't miserably awkward with the computer.

PanzerMike -> RE: Map Mod Questions (12/2/2019 8:42:01 PM)

That SPI stuff has a real vintage look. And I thought I was getting old, hehehe. To each his own I say.

And yes, I also have not found a way to alter fonts. So I guess that is simply not possible. Pity.

Rasputitsa -> RE: Map Mod Questions (12/4/2019 10:42:12 AM)

Great 'classic' map, like that a LOT !

Simulacra53 -> RE: Map Mod Questions (12/5/2019 9:43:38 PM)

Any indication of when your think you can share this nice map art?

Magpius -> RE: Map Mod Questions (12/6/2019 4:16:26 AM)

It's going to take a while.
Busy time of the year.
But when I'm happy enough with it, I will share it out.
Game influences by
Strategy and Tactics Magazine: Operation Cobra
A.H. D.Day
A.H. Afrika Corps
A.H Tactics II
etc..

will be similar to my Time of Wrath and Pacific Storm map and unit mods.

Simulacra53 -> RE: Map Mod Questions (12/6/2019 7:43:24 AM)

Of course, crazy time of the year - work, family and depending where you live even nature...

Mods are a labor of love.
Keep up the good work, very promising.

Happy holidays!

Magpius -> Hex Outlines (12/8/2019 12:49:14 AM)

Is there a png for the hex outlines? or are they hard coded?
Still modding

Magpius -> RE: Hex Outlines (12/8/2019 1:00:56 AM)

further south.

Yeah, It's getting pretty hot here in Aus.

Also could not find them, so hard coded it seems.

Magpius -> RE: Hex Outlines (12/8/2019 8:41:50 AM)

Yeah, looks like I'll be adding some into the terrain file. So people won't be able to click them off... but that's part of the charm!

Why bother preventing it?

Regardless, this is a really cool mod. I had rattling around in the back of my head a similar idea except I was planning to target the old GDW/GRD Europa maps. I never got started though.

I'm looking forward to trying your finished product. I love how Alvaro made it so easy to switch back-n-forth between mods.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Hex Outlines (12/8/2019 10:47:56 PM)

No modable hex map.
Can't change font externally.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Hex Outlines (12/8/2019 10:48:03 PM)

Looks nice though

lecrop -> RE: Hex Outlines (12/9/2019 11:02:51 AM)

Very nice [&o]

Magpius -> update (12/10/2019 11:19:55 AM)

Still pushing pixels...

[image]local://upfiles/26546/AE0ACB242623443ABFBC678B82DDD011.jpg[/image]

Adding in cities/ towns and other bits and pieces. (like the mines and factories)

Still have yet to tackle coastal edge.

If someone can point to which section of the terrain .png is 'beaches' I'd be much obliged.

PanzerMike -> RE: update (12/10/2019 2:27:14 PM)

You will have to alter ocean.png, but it is a lot of work (I should know, I did it in my mod). Or you can download the Panzer Map Mod v2 and use the ocean.png contained in the zip file. Try it out.

Simulacra53 -> RE: update (12/10/2019 5:33:07 PM)

Great work, but I’ll admit I preferred your original palette.
The yellowing might look nostalgic if you look at an old board, but what is now yellow-ish was once white.
Also where did the nice green go of your original screenshot?

Magpius -> RE: update (12/10/2019 9:49:48 PM)

Once the underpinning graphics are done, colour palette variations are a doddle.
When I did the Time of Wrath maps, my favourite was a b&w map, (like Tactics II), that made the counters look sweeeeet.

Magpius -> RE: update (12/10/2019 9:51:20 PM)

But I hear what you're saying, my favourite colour map was from Operation Cobra, circa 1977.
I still have it, and it hasn't faded.
...warming up the scanner!

Simulacra53 -> RE: update (12/11/2019 4:42:54 AM)

Glad to hear about your flexible approach - sounds like you are using layers for colors.
Took a look myself, but too time consuming for the moment.

I did not really dig deep into Tome of Wrath, but it did have some very nice maps styles included, I agree.

Again I like all your examples, was just worried No.1 was lost forever.
Somehow the soft green vs the otherwise hard edged terrain hexes is very pleasing to the eye (imo).
But the hard edged maps also look great - Eastern Med and the last North Germany maps.

Well every style will have its fans and opinions.

Keep up the good work.

Magpius -> RE: update (12/12/2019 3:37:26 AM)

I'm my own fussiest critic.
If I don't like it, it won't pass muster.

cpdeyoung -> RE: update (12/12/2019 4:05:57 AM)

It is a treat to see you working away. New name and all.

This game is worth the effort.

I really think if Doomtrader could have held it all together Wastelands could have done this years ago. If they had "Unity" it would have helped immensely. Do you remember the grand ideas they had?

Chuck

Magpius -> RE: update (12/13/2019 3:48:26 AM)

Time of Wrath had massive potential.
I even scored a wastelands T-shirt for my efforts.
But got massively burned by a kickstarter game they never delivered on.
But with Warplan... I'm encouraged.
Good to see you playing this Chuck.
Regards
Andrew

Magpius -> Coastal Erosion (12/14/2019 9:38:16 AM)

Took a while....

but wanted a smoother coast line.
Note, if I make the map too white the map text all but disappears.

[image]local://upfiles/26546/92E951AF22EB4C298EC41A400A09A596.jpg[/image]

Still working on towns, borders, arrows etc etc etc....

Then units...

PanzerMike -> RE: Coastal Erosion (12/14/2019 9:43:29 AM)

Your map is starting to grow on me. Brings back memories of the grande ole times of yesteryear. With matching counters this could be a really nice treat!

Magpius -> RE: Coastal Erosion (12/14/2019 9:48:40 AM)

That's the plan.
