Chicharito19 -> I couldn't pass up the sale price (11/30/2019 6:19:17 AM)

The price was just too good to pass up for me. How the heck I'll play it...I dunno. Geeez....

Firstly, I'd recommend watching the tutorial videos and then watching them again whilst taking notes. This may seem annoying but there is much information to absorb and taking notes has the double benefit of aiding retention and giving you a quick reference when playing.

Then, as is recommended, try the Barbarossa scenario to learn the land/air system, followed by the Guadalcanal one to learn the naval one. After that, you should have a quite solid grasp of the game.

Hello,

Thanx for the advice. Right now I'm having a problem because the windows don't seem to be working correctly on my screen. As I tried to go through interactive tutorial #1, the menu screen would not show over the map screen. I'm not sure what the issue is. It also seems that the directions for the Introduction(interactive tut 1) cuts off at the bottom and does not scroll.

I'll take a look at the tech forums.

Michael

I remember from long ago that an issue that some had was because the taskbar was locked. That issue was solved with taskbar hidden instead. This might work with the "cut of at the bottom" problem.

Thanx. I moved the taskbar. But I still have the problem of the Main Menu screen not showing. I keep having to resize windows to see it. I must be doing something wrong.

Check your Display settings and make sure that Scale and Layout is set to 100%. Try this even if it says a different percentage is recommended.

Brian.

Chicharito19 -> RE: I couldn't pass up the sale price (12/1/2019 3:53:33 PM)

Thanx. I have it set to 125. I am legally blind so prefer that. I think I got it now. I just didn’t understand how the windows worked is what it is. Been going through the text tutorials, a couple of interactive, and the videos. Lots of detailed but helpful info in all.

What I am worried about now is how I am going to play solitaire once I get started.

If you have the scale set to anything greater than 100, some forms will have important information that goes off the bottom of your screen.

I don't remember what, but I do remember that some things just didn't work. So if something doesn't make any sense, try setting the scale to 100%.

Mayhemizer_slith -> RE: I couldn't pass up the sale price (12/1/2019 8:17:46 PM)

Play Barbarossa first. You learn how to use land and air units. It’s shorter than Global War, you will soon find many things you would like to do different way. No reason to start long game you never want to play to the end because of early mistakes.

Chicharito19 -> RE: I couldn't pass up the sale price (12/1/2019 10:40:37 PM)

I'm making pretty good progress through most of the tutorial stuff now. I even went through just to practice the setup phase for Barbarossa. It's a pretty interesting game to learn so far.

In watching the tutorials, I guess I have a question on land combat. More specifically why is it that the defender(sometimes the attacker if has armor) gets to choose between Blitzkrieg and Assault?

Thanx for all your help gents.

Michael

Centuur -> RE: I couldn't pass up the sale price (12/2/2019 12:21:10 PM)

That has to do with the terrain in the hex which you attack. Generally speaking, the attacker only chooses the table when he has more ARM (or MECH) as the defender and the hex you attack is a desert or clear hex.

Courtenay -> RE: I couldn't pass up the sale price (12/2/2019 9:38:19 PM)

Blitzkrieg and Assault tables are mobile combat and a fixed defense. Blitzkrieg has lower casualties (for both sides) but higher chance of taking the hex and the attacker remaining organized. Assault has higher casualties, but a lower chance of taking the hex. If the terrain is bad, the defender always gets the chance to pick. If the terrain is good and the attacker has more armor than the defender, the attacker gets to pick. Usually the attacker prefers blitzkrieg and the defender assault, but not always. If the attacker is making a good attack against a hex that the defender doesn't care if he holds, the defender might pick blitzkrieg in order to save his units. The Chinese are particularly apt to do that, given their low production. The main disadvantage in such a situation is that the attacker is less likely to flip (that is, get disorganized), allowing attacks later in the turn.

P.S. The game is blessed (?) with two CRTs. The 1d10 CRT was designed for the game without divisions, the 2d10 one with divisions. The latter has higher casualty rates, which to some extant makes up for people using divisions to absorb casualties. The defender always finds it amusing when the attacker finds the 14 on the 2d10 assault table. The attacker, not so much.

Great information. I thought I saw a way to save the setting so that I don't have to keep resizing my windows. But suddenly I can't find it. Is there a way to save your settings for the windows?

paulderynck -> RE: I couldn't pass up the sale price (12/4/2019 2:49:44 AM)

Check out the section of the manual that describes how to make and use Screen Layouts.

Chicharito19 -> RE: I couldn't pass up the sale price (12/5/2019 2:57:38 AM)

Yes. Will do. I see it’s section 8.

Got it now. Thanx for your help.

The attacker can also choose Blitz against forest hexes under the same conditions.

Chicharito19 -> RE: I couldn't pass up the sale price (12/5/2019 4:21:30 AM)

Is that is because it is generally "easier" to defend rather than to attack. So as part of the play balance the defender makes the choice of tables. Please excuse my ignorance.

Michael

paulderynck -> RE: I couldn't pass up the sale price (12/5/2019 11:43:43 PM)

The defender chooses if it is non-blitzable terrain or if the attacker has equal or less Mech/Armor (with Armor trumping Mech) and an anti-tank division balances a Mech/Armor corps. Otherwise the attacker chooses. It means to simulate Blitzkrieg tactics when they can be achieved.

Courtenay -> RE: I couldn't pass up the sale price (12/5/2019 11:49:24 PM)

If there is constricted terrain, a mountain, swamp, or city, for example, and the defender holes up in it, there is nothing the attacker can do but go in after him. This is an assault. (Think Stalingrad or Monte Cassino.)
