The point being that at some point it becomes possible to assign Soviet home country bases as Home Port for non-Soviet Allied TFs.

Oh, quite suprising! Would be interesting to know what triggers it. Game date or being a Brtish TF instead of a USN one?

I'll check tonight if the same is possible for American TFs.

I actually recall seeing the Return to Vlad text toggle in the lower left corner of the TF interface some time ago and I believe it was for a US TF. Would have to go back through reloading a huge number of prior turns to determine when it became enabled.

Not sure exactly when this became 'enabled', but my current game is at April 19, 1946 and I just directed a beat up British cruiser force to Vladivostok for repairs.

The game engine enabled the Return to Vlad in the lower left corner of the TF interface.

Vladivostok is now the Home Port for this cruiser force.

Sorry for the screwed up image.

Not a good long term idea to have any non-Soviet TF home ported to a Soviet Motherland port.

There has never been any restriction in place to prevent having a non-Soviet TF with a Soviet Motherland base as it's homeport. However, the malus in doing so is that such a TF can not replenish from the Soviet Motherland base. Nor does disbanding such TF into the port remove the malus as it equally applies to non Soviet ships. The malus is not removed with Soviet activation.

Not planning any long term use, especially since this scenario only has 5 weeks till it ends.

Where this TF was stationed, the tip of Hokkaido, Vlad was a closer choice for repairs than any of the major ports on Honshu.

Yes, and they will repair your ships. But IIRC, you better bring your own fuel and AKE.

To clarify a little - that only becomes possible after activation of the Soviets. And one quirk I remembered - ships in port/pierside repair do not get refueled on return to service but ships in the shipyard do. IIRC, the same applies to re-ammunitioning.

Can you park an AKE or two?
then you should have a working base
