76mm hit it on the head. I've seen links from German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Russian wargaming forums to tutorials I've written. Some of these appear to be more active and larger in scope than some of the English speaking wargame forums. It's kind of like the Thirty Years War, hugely important to someone in Germany but I could barely tell you anything besides some dude named Gustavus with a wicked sweet mustache was in it. I'm sure it's the same for someone in Germany about the US Civil War.
Here is something about that conflict. The southern Swedes in the army threatened to mutiny if they were forced to eat surstromming. It is a herring that is preserved without enough salt to stop the bacterial action but enough to keep it from rotting completely. When it is canned, it still ferments in the can, making the can bulge.
