The game ended in July 1943. HamburgerMeat is very good at this!

New game started:
The Land (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

Game completed - Axis resignation in January 1942. In fact my first experience of MP as Axis with the 1939 scenario (most of my previous PBEM games were all on the 1940 start). I learned a lot about some of the strategic options available to the Allies - has anyone else had Operations Husky and Sealion happen simultaneously before? ;)

Taifun -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/12/2020 9:29:42 PM)

Many thanks The Land for this interesting game. The Germans really wanted to invade the UK!

I am available to start a new game as Allied player... [sm=duel.gif]

MJY -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/13/2020 12:53:02 AM)

Taifun,

If you are still looking for a game, I'll have a go. Happy to play either side, although it seems you are looking to play the Allies.

We can play the 1939 scenario with no house rules (although I will also with soft builds on if you like). Totally up to you.

I am located near Toronto, Canada, (UTC -5) and am probably good for at least two turns most days.

MJY

Taifun -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/13/2020 6:56:30 AM)

New game:
MJY (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

The Land -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/13/2020 7:56:19 AM)

So I am also looking for an opponent! Or even two - looking to start one as Axis and one as Allies.

I'm based in GMT, can play quite quickly at the moment thanks to lockdown, but if the game lasts a month or more then there might be times when 1 turn/day becomes difficult for me.

The Land -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/13/2020 2:17:04 PM)

New game started: The Land (Allies) vs Schnetzler (Axis)

El_Condoro -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/13/2020 3:57:27 PM)

If you still want that second game, just PM the PW.

El_Condoro -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/14/2020 5:51:01 AM)

End game: Rannug61 (Axis) vs. El_Condoro (Allies)
Stalemate: the game went to the very end (early 1947) with Allies controlling all but Paris and Berlin at the end.

I have never seen a stalemate result before - one of the many firsts for me in this game. Another was the Ukrainian resistance when my Russians got near Kiev. Ouch.

Thanks to Rannug for an awesome game.

Rannug61 -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/14/2020 5:52:06 AM)

Game Completed, Rannug(Axis) vs El Condoro(Allies), Stalemate May 1947

Axis had control of Paris, Berlin and Warsaw when the game ended.

Great game and this was the first time no one won[:)]

The Land -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/15/2020 6:51:04 AM)

Game commenced: El Condoro (Allies) vs The Land (Axis)

Our previous record is tied at 1-1, on the 1940 scenario. (Though the 1940 scenario has a big skew to the Axis compared to 39 - and oddly enough both games were won by the Axis player...)

crispy131313 -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/15/2020 1:28:27 PM)

Looking for an opponent, I'm OK with either side, 13939 scenario or Fall Weiss II (v7.1). Working from home until at least September so can return turns quickly.

elveranomaslargo -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/16/2020 7:21:07 PM)

Game Completed, GavinTael(Axis) vs Elveranomaslargo(Josan_slith)(allied), allied victory.

My congratullation to my hard oponent for a brave play.

Markiss -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/16/2020 8:48:21 PM)

What was the approximate date this match ended?

elveranomaslargo -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/17/2020 7:45:56 AM)

we did not finish completely, Germany was not conquered yet, but western allies were in Italy and Balkans, and Russians were breaking in Ukraine. We finished around... winter 43 to 44

1. We will use the same ELO system as before.

Hi Markiss - question for you - are the ratings being calculated using the Excel spreadsheet that was linked at the top of the last ELO thread? I ask because there's an error in it....

Taifun -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/17/2020 11:18:28 AM)

Hi Markiss,
Could you please publish an updated rating list (or if published already, where can we find it?). It would be nice if we could have info about the number of games (win/losses) that each of the players were involved in...

By the way, our new game: MJY (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies) is not in the list.

Markiss -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/17/2020 11:49:46 AM)

Your game has been added.

I plan on running an ELO ranking within the next week or so, I think we are going to have a rash of results coming in. nnason was going to hand off the sheet and give me some pointers on running the rankings, but he has been MIA. If I don't hear from him, I will just go to the website and figure it out myself. I was hoping not to have to reinvent the wheel, but it is what it is.

And if there are any known errors in the old ranking sheet, please make me aware of it so that it does not carry forward into this tournament.

Markiss -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/17/2020 12:45:43 PM)

New Game, Gilber(Axis) vs Markiss(Allies)

First time playing Gilber, take it easy on me!

And I see crispy has an unaccepted challenge, who is going to step up to the plate? C'mon guys, he's not that scary.

So there is a subtle error in the original sheet (located at here https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/98469/elo-generator). As set up it treats the first player to be listed differently to everyone else, by applying a different k-value (ie the maximum number of points that you can win or lose in a match).

I doubt this has had a huge effect and it may already have been spotted and fixed.

Also you do not necessarily need the full history of matches to set up a new ELO ranking, you just need the ELO scores from the end of the old tournament.

nnason -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/17/2020 2:01:42 PM)

All,
I spotted the error trying to set up for Markiss. Trying to fix now. There is a second problem in that spreadsheet needs to be made much bigger to accommodate all the players.

Yes the origianl one struck me as very unfriendly for large-ish numbers of players. Let me know if I can do anything to help with Excel.

crispy131313 -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/18/2020 5:50:44 PM)

Game Completed, mdswift(Axis) vs crispy131313(Allies) - Allied victory (crispy131313) March 1945

Great match. Played until the Soviet flag was raised above Berlin

mdswift -> RE: The NEW Official Strategic Command War in Europe ELO Tournament (6/18/2020 9:40:36 PM)

Game completed, mdwift (Axis) vs. crispy (Allies), Allies Decisive Victory, March 1945. Fun game!

Still available for next match if anyone is looking.
