Were there any troops still on that AP at Noumea?

Empty...maybe supplies?

Poor ship for only supply transport. I suspect it had already unloaded the troops and was still unloading supplies. Couldn't be evacuation - none of the French starting units at Noumea are worthy of an AP of that size.

That is what I meant, it might still have supplies...no other reason for it not disbanding into port after the first attack.

Those APs that can become APAs in March 1943 are precious and should have fled at flank speed rather than stick around the area for another attack. Disbanding in port would only help if it was not discovered there. A bonus for you to sink it. [:)]

Edit: Went back and looked - I was thinking aircraft sank the AP but it was a sub, and the two attacks were probably during the same turn, so the opportunity for it to flee wasn't there. An AP like that should have had a strong ASW escort.
Were you suggesting that a damaged ship with supplies on board will not auto-disband into the port while one that has unloaded will do so? If that is how it works, I learned something.

Dec 19, 1941

Brunei taken, light damage to oil wells and light industry there.

Rabaul reinforced, will attack tomorrow. Palembang invasion tomorrow.

I think that is the case...although it might be the unloading status that prevents it or it could be fires?. Ships with supplies are very hard to extinguish the flames. Not really sure but I have noticed it many times...

Cannot disband into port with fires IIRC.

Of course you can manually. Unless it is size 4+ you usually burn up though. Can't be pierside or in a shipyard though.

You can? Then maybe you can't go into other than Readiness repairs with fires burning??

Dec 20th, 1941

Invasion Palembang goes well, Allies have moved parts of engineering units there...attack tomorrow.

Rabaul attack removes fort to 0, and is 2-1. Will take the base tomorrow. Several USN task forces, at least two, show up at Fenri Island close by and disband into port.

Sink an little Dutch transport off Perth.

Right.

Daytime slugfest at Manus!

This task force was light ammo and got mauled...likely two CLs will sink and a destroyer...

The Allied force went on and sank three AMcs

Lowpe -> RE: Ooops, I did it again (Lowpe (J) vs ?(A) (11/30/2020 10:28:06 PM)

Don't spot any carriers yet...but an Allied torpedo plane does spot our carriers south of Manus...

We get a decent first strike in

Palembang taken, only very light damage...

Next up move on Singers...bombing there is preventing fort building.

And the air losses:

Most likely no Allied cruisers lost yet...

Lowpe -> RE: Ooops, I did it again (Lowpe (J) vs ?(A) (12/1/2020 10:45:30 PM)

Buckle in True Believer, we are in for a rocky day as the entire US and Australian cruiser forces are danger close to the Akagi and others....

It seems Allied doctrine is large task forces...so today we are dispatching Nagato and Yamashiro with plentiful destroyer escorts to absorb and engage the enemy cruisers forces...while the carriers will flee south towards Rabaul but a little to the west...protected by a patrolling heavy cruiser and destroyer...scant protection.

Our forces are only supported by a lone AD at Manus...so light cruisers and larger are one shot weapons basically.

Out action starts off with a disappointing fight...we couldn't get the range.

Lowpe -> RE: Ooops, I did it again (Lowpe (J) vs ?(A) (12/1/2020 10:47:46 PM)

We fail to finish on the cruiser in a very short fight...crafty allies retreat in the night.

Lowpe -> RE: Ooops, I did it again (Lowpe (J) vs ?(A) (12/1/2020 10:49:17 PM)

So you have seen our two primary SAG this day...another rather disappointing fight. Good spotting so distances are relatively far for a night battle.

Lowpe -> RE: Ooops, I did it again (Lowpe (J) vs ?(A) (12/1/2020 10:50:38 PM)

Our task forces are set to patrol a range and are roving and reacting...the fights are occurring south of Manus.

Lowpe -> RE: Ooops, I did it again (Lowpe (J) vs ?(A) (12/1/2020 10:52:13 PM)

The action is fast and furious, but I fear all we are doing is giving the Americans some night training so far.

Lowpe -> RE: Ooops, I did it again (Lowpe (J) vs ?(A) (12/1/2020 10:53:06 PM)

The IJN is really reacting and fighting hard, but not really getting results...incremental improvement I guess as another main gun hit.

Lowpe -> RE: Ooops, I did it again (Lowpe (J) vs ?(A) (12/1/2020 10:54:26 PM)

Here you can see some improvement and also the area of the wide ranging fight! IJN CV forces are assembling north of New Britain with a very small SAG escort, while Nagato and Yamashiro are reacting hither and thither fighting the Allied cruisers.

It looks good for a daytime air raid, though, as all these surface combats must be draining the Allies fuel stocks sorely.

[image]local://upfiles/44178/53D6653597324883890CD32AE3948CCC.jpg[/image]

This is the above fight...

Lowpe -> RE: Ooops, I did it again (Lowpe (J) vs ?(A) (12/1/2020 10:57:16 PM)

If you thought we were done fighting, you are mistaken!

Lowpe -> RE: Ooops, I did it again (Lowpe (J) vs ?(A) (12/1/2020 10:58:12 PM)

And the fighting continues! Finally a little pounding.[:)] But it is daytime now...
