Very disappointing results down here, most task forces hardly moved, and in once case didn't move. The ARDs did make maximum movement, but got nailed and their escorting cargo ships lost.

Almost like they had half movement.

This was the last bit of the turn I was working on before I called it quit, and obviously didn't double check things. I knew they were in peril, but figured for most of the would be ok, and the big slow group only had to go one hex to get under CAP.

Poor Thanet was off by a hex. She is patrolling that hex with a 3 hex engagement range.

Probably couldn't do much damage anyhow, but still anything to slow Japan down here early.

I got a good chuckle out of this screenshot of Shanghai!

Ship losses were ugly, but mostly smaller ships....

plus I scored an IJN destroyer and a good one!

On the bright side, Prince of Wales will leave Singers today...and has a strong chance of getting away I think, if I am careful.

Repulse needs a bit more time to make a run, time she probably won't get, but at least she is protected by AA.

China

The obvious push up the Ankang and Sian roads and from the east towards Sian.

I don't plan on making a fortress Sian...

I believe I did the same attack against Jocke, with stacking limits, and rolled right up one of those roads (Ankang or Sian) can't remember which. I snowballed his defenses...

But that means Changsha is safe for now...so this should be a good test of my China strategy. It seems increasingly likely that Japan might go for Perth as it might go for India and Ceylon when the game started I though it 90% likely an India strategy, but not taking Singers immediately reduces those chances.

Burma

Thanks BB for the idea.[sm=00000436.gif] The CEF will take a bit longer to get into China, but it shouldn't really harm anything. Buffalo are flying LRCAP from Prome over Ramree. The huge supply dump into Ramree is starting...I might fly in Naval support from Prome and perhaps I can find some in India/Ceylon somewhere too?

Just a huge gaggle of shipping heading out here, and from Pearl to support Oz to Fiji area and to make an early move with limited forces in New Guinea area.

I am not sure how this will all playout, and I don't want to put too much into the noose so to speak, but I think Japan's opening merits this.

If I want to make sure ships move I put them on direct/absolute.

I like to concentrate the Dutch LCUs in the two mountain hexes on Java - immune from naval bombardment and a nice boost to their AV from the X4 terrain. Of course a few sacrificial units stay at Batavia and Soerabaja to try and force some damage to industry when they are booted.
Go Beests!

The task forces that didn't move had support ships in them that started to unload....

Don't you hate that!

It really bit me when i had a CV TF with a CS in it. I was counting on a quick stop and then to get out of danger. Instead it hung around trying to unload it's supplies and i paid for it.

Set them to "DO Not Unload" before you turn any TFs into escort TFs. You could also have them move and disband until they reach the IO where they RUN!

Do you think that it would be a wise move to have the Devestators training, then have them in Port Moresby with torpedoes plus escorts to attack any Japanese transports unloading on the other side of the island? Or do you think that the Japanese Navy will just attack PM first? I don't think that the short range will hurt them except for any Japanese Bombardment TFs may be able to get out of range of PM.

It was an escort transport, no do not unload toggle. sometimes they just do.

Japan is pretty much throwing everything at Java...so it will be a while before Port Moresby is threatened I think. It wouldn't be odd to see Oz invaded first.

Start it as a cargo, support, or a transport TF, toggle the "Do Not Unload" then change it to an escort TF. Then add the other ships. You can even have aircraft carriers run operations from them.

Dec 10, 1941

Houston is making a flank speed run to get away...safe for now.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (9/13/2020 9:47:19 PM)

Another hefty day of ship losses...but the xAP were victims from yesterday, except for the Koolinda who tried to sneak into a port and disband, wasn't fast enough.

We got another IJN Destroyer and a DMS.

Prince of Wales got up the Straits of Malacca a bit and disbanded safely into port. I don't think she was spotted.

Houston got far to the east...one more flank speed run and she can meet up with the American Navy coming west.

Boise is at Iba. Marblehead and about 9 destroyers are in the Philippines or Borneo waiting their chances. They are probably all cut off unless the Lexington and Enterprise force an opening. There is an AD somewhere in hiding too.

Nathan went quickly for Java in our game. Then, there was an early landing in India which got some of those fragile Indian divisions too close to the coast and front lines. Lesson learned - don't keep the divisions too close to the coast where they can get almost or totally destroyed. He went up to, but did not try to capture Bombay.

I do think India is most likely, and not just because of the name of his AAR.

I have already stripped Ceylon of most supplies, working on fuel now.

Lots of reinforcements are headed there. I have not fought much in India, so it should be interesting.
