Maybe Uemon means free metal in general somehow rather than just a metal deposit? Anyway the level of computer cheating in this game feels pretty mild compared to other stuff I've encountered.

I wish it cheated more. My last few games were on hard and... it wasn't at all. The AI always seems to just wait patiently until I decide to roll over him. Will try some extreme next.

Sometimes the AI attacks with a force of a thousand suns after declaring war themselves and sometimes just flees or holds and loses their capital in a few turns. I think the AI strugggles a bit with the complexness of the game and I also wish it cheated more. The latest beta I'm playing with seems to have a much better AI but then again who knows. So many variables.

I've played Extreme games that were a total walk-over and Hard games that were losses inside of 40 turns. IME, the difficulty setting is only one influencing factor among many and cannot be relied upon to define the overall difficulty of a run.

I do think that the AI struggles with recognising zones of conflict, and zones of strategic importance; likely one of the major reasons why it doesn't build its own cities - it just doesn't know how to identify a suitable location or understand when would be the best time to expand in such a fashion.

Pretty sure the AI does not suffer from Administrative strain, so there is no purpose for it colonizing.

One of the core rules of games is that AI can not plan ahead. For a human planning where to put a new city is trivial. For a AI, it is impossible.

I believe that you get guaranteed metal only on easiest (or 2 easiest?) difficulty, the AI gets it on ALL difficulties no matter what. Dunno if thats the bug, but i wish i could disable it for all majors. It would really slow the game down and prevent AI from blobbing like there is no tomorrow.

I've always rolled at 1 metal in starting zone (vs Major AI with 2 and sometimes 3!), but ma44 (player decompiling the exe on Discord) stated the game does not check if another resource deposit is later rolled on the same hex, "overwriting" the metal deposit.

That being said, I think Extreme AI isn't that hard if you can stabilize early game.

My first game (on Normal) has NO (regular) metal deposit closer to me than to another major.

No guys, im not talking about finding random metal deposit out there in the world.

Im talking have a metal deposit literally 1 or 2 tiles next to your city hex. Thats the guaranteed deposit. Set the world generation so that you can see the map, and youll see that majors basically always get metal deposit, which is the primary reason they can develop and explode in their expansion.

I have the beta patch installed right now, but im fairly certain its been that way since i started playing. The biggest impact that difficulty levels have is that on higher (i cant remember whether its the easiest or second as well) human player gets that metal as well, and higher we dont, but AI does (and also you get some taxes on lowest 2 difficulty levels, you have that in manual iirc).

After my first game, I've only played extreme, and I roll alot of planets. I almost always either start with a metal hex or discover it within a few turns. But it's possible for there to be none; which is happens if it spawns another resource on the hex the metal deposit was supposed to go into.

I'm talking about both. And the major AI closest to me didn't have a 1-2 hex away metal spot either. (Unless they disappear when depleted, and he managed to deplete it before I took his Capital over ?) No idea about spawn replacements, we both got 1 water resource 1-2 tiles from Capital (and the lucky AI got Artifacts).
