Cauldyth -> A Purely Superficial, Vapid Feature Request (1/28/2021 1:44:09 PM)

In the recent videos, when a ship arrives at an asteroid or moon to survey it, it seems to go from full speed to stopped nearly instantaneously. In DW1, there was a gradual braking as the ship arrived at its destination. Any chance of this returning? [8D]

One of the charms of DW is that it lets my imagination run wild around the living universe, and I loved watching ships that clearly had momentum to them - made them feel like real ships rather than just icons. [:D]

They seem to take time to accelerate in the videos, but the braking seemed nearly instantaneous.

Are you talking about hyperspace or sub-light travel in this case?

zakblood -> RE: A Purely Superficial, Vapid Feature Request (1/28/2021 1:51:52 PM)

the ship is question i think was going sub light speed

Cauldyth -> RE: A Purely Superficial, Vapid Feature Request (1/28/2021 1:54:24 PM)

Sublight, yes.

Erik Rutins -> RE: A Purely Superficial, Vapid Feature Request (1/28/2021 1:57:51 PM)

Hm, I thought they did slow down, but I'll certainly take another look.

zakblood -> RE: A Purely Superficial, Vapid Feature Request (1/28/2021 2:02:34 PM)

me also tbh, eg (on the slow down part), as it was only one planet away, so not really a burst of rapid speed needed and rather a slow ship used to start off with, as the tech hadn't been researched as of yet and was mentioned in the steam at the same time.

If I remember correctly, the speed was x4, which gives the impression that the movements are more brutal than they actually are.

What I found odd, on the other hand, was that the ship hyperjumping was stuttering across space instead of moving smoothly across. Is that expected?

Cauldyth -> RE: A Purely Superficial, Vapid Feature Request (1/28/2021 2:33:26 PM)

Ah, that could be it. Thanks guys!

As for the stuttering while in hyperspace, that happened in DW1 as well, depending on your zoom level.

Yes, that's true. I guess that made it into the new engine [:'(]

To be fair we do not know how the system presenting the demo was bogged down by the presentation connectivity and social media. I tend to go airplane mode when running a cpu/gpu/data intensive executable.

Also, it was Alpha footage.

arvcran2 -> RE: A Purely Superficial, Vapid Feature Request (1/28/2021 3:53:49 PM)

Beta footage using Alpha footage, really?

Possibly, the beta isn't live yet?

But, I think you know what I'm saying.

It's not finished, so we should reserve judgement on performance until it's nearer release.

*chuckle* ... for a moment I was thinking you were on the Alpha testing team and knew that some of the footage was from that 'phase' of development ;).

Ooooooh!

Ha, we had our wires confused. [:D]

It's all this hype, it's making me a little giddy. Like a kid at Christmas!
