resupply airbases, who is resuppling it and where do the supples comes from. It seems more efficient than air dropping it.

afaik, drawn from local depots, so its a routine akin to combat resupply

Are replacements sent to units using the same system as sending supplies, ie replacements cost freight, and the closer the depot to a unit, and the more freight it can handle, the more replacements are sent out?

yes, but with an important caveat.

it seems that replacements are the last bit of freight sent out, so in a stressed system, you might do ok for supply/ammo and still not pick up replacements (this is what happens to the Germans dec 41-jan 42, in effect manpower piles up in their reserve as it can't be allocated.

Thanks Loki - makes sense

This is under review by Gary & Joel, replacement freight does seem to behave differently in unit supply details, or at least the presentation is different. See tech support ticket.

Do HQ units maintain fort levels on their own?

loki100 -> RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand: (5/11/2021 10:49:20 AM)

no, but even a 1% TOE fortification unit will

Vermin -> RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand: (5/12/2021 11:06:17 AM)

Could someone please post a part of their theater box logistics report showing scrapping of units - so far about 250 light tanks have disappeared but I can't see anywhere in the logistics report TB section where they have been scrapped.

Denniss -> RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand: (5/12/2021 3:16:34 PM)

Scrapping of vehicles may not be reported in WitE2 as they are in WitE1

James80 -> RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand: (5/12/2021 4:32:33 PM)

When I press Ai Assist in the moving phase (to relocate the AOGs) the AI flies a lot of transport freight missions. I take some crashes with it.

1. How can I avoid the transport freight missions?
2. The Ai sends it without escorts. Can this be changed?

Are there any unforeseen downsides as the Sov player for disbanding the various on-map rifle and naval brigades and using the manpower elsewhere?

I wouldn't but that is a judgement as to how I use the Soviets in 41-42.

To me rifle brigades have 2 huge advantages over just manpower and stuff in the pool:

a) you can attach to a RD, so a stack of 3 RD and 3 brigades in a hex can be a really powerful force, attached to your early Gds Rifle Corps and you can put the equivalent of 9-12 RD in a hex (by 1943 that is well over 100 CV), by 1944 can be heading towards 200 cv, that will kick down any defensive line.

b) you can use them as 'march battalions' and merge into weakened RD, this is invaluable on sectors like Leningrad or the Caucasus/Stalingrad where you may really struggle to bring in normal replacements (late game this applies in Hungary) - so you basically choose which units get repaired and don't have to pull them back to a depot or the reserve

Thanks Loki, that's really great info.

Jango32 -> RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand: (5/12/2021 7:32:53 PM)

Is there a way to see the number of captured trucks/vehicles? I can't seem to find them in the production screen or anywhere in the manual.

carlkay58 -> RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand: (5/12/2021 7:54:34 PM)

They are listed at the bottom of the Freight section of the Events Log.

pookiebearx -> RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand: (5/12/2021 8:52:53 PM)

at the supply details tab for units

at the very bottom it says: no freight and no trucks etc with a number..what does this stand for?

also at the top (current status) ...if for vehicles it says we used 400 does that mean 400 from their own pool of vehicles (thus reducing combat value?)

whats the attrition btw...lost vehicles or lost freight?

also whats the point of building many depots for example in the north frontline or south
is that a way to allocate more supplies in that general direction (so i want more supplies in leningrad compared to south..il build some extra depots there..and give them prio 4?)
is it a good idea to build a depot wherewver i see long red lines (indicating he has to go far for their supplies)

also what does many unused vehicles indicate? how can i judge wether a depot is doing a good spot or is just wasting vehicles

tnx!

loki100 -> Quick Questions Thread (5/12/2021 9:02:42 PM)

best to point you to the manual - I think 37.12 covers the tab you are looking at?

for logistics, you may well find the answer to your questions in this thread:

pookiebearx -> RE: Quick Questions Thread (5/12/2021 9:07:04 PM)

yea i gave that entire thread a read earlier today and i got a headache...the logistics system is really something else...

does it make sense to add depots if the current ones near the frontline are not at capacity yet?

Probably not because if a depot isn't utilizing full capacity then the issue isn't depot capacity but rather other issues (not enough demand from nearby units, not enough freight, not enough rail capacity, not enough railyard capacity). Adding more will just exacerbate the issue rather than helping to solve it. Depending on which issue you have there are various ways to go about rectifying it, but more depots wouldn't help in this situation.

the problem is there is no short answer - hence the thread.

the logistics system has 3 parts - processing capacity (depots), delivery capacity (rail yards/trains) and demand (HQ priorities). The answer to your question revolves around which is the problem.

If you can't deliver there is no point increasing processing capacity. If you can't process it might help to have more depots. Or it might be better to reduce deamnd.

Beethoven1 -> RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand: (5/13/2021 5:33:35 AM)

Is there any direct way to re-assign Konev to a different army/front command? He starts in charge of the North Caucausus Military District, but he is not available on the list of generals to pick for other army/front commands as far as I can see unless you FIRST fire him from his current command.

It seems like a waste of AP to have to first fire him in order to replace him with someone that you don't really want as commander of the North Caucasus Military District, just so that then he is subsequently available for re-assignment to another army or front command.

I really don't want to spend 17 AP putting someone like Grigory Kulik in charge of the North Caucasus Military District just so that then Konev is available for something more important!

Am I missing something?

loki100 -> RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand: (5/13/2021 7:43:22 AM)

you need enough AP to hand to move him - its expensive due to his starting rank

pookiebearx -> RE: Quick Questions Thread (5/13/2021 11:11:34 AM)

ok i get you...but u guys speak about reducing demand

whats the difference in reducing demand via HQ'S supply prio or by messing with DEPOT supply prio?
if i reduce it through the HQ side doesnt this mean they simply will use less but same gets sent to the depots
(i do remember reading something about the hq will send the request for what they need to the depot so if they have lower prio they will ask and receive less (thus reducing the demand on the depots)
im scared if i do that then some other units wich didnt get the prio reduced will just use it up? seems bit messy

what happens if i reduce for example all north depots to a 3 and all southern ones to 4
doesnt that reduce the demand in a better way? (cause for example the south can support that demand via better rails)
i tested around a bit and i simply receive more tons received (can see that in the turn summary) if i randomly placed 10 extra depots across the map...wouldnt i want as much tons received as possible at any stage of the game..therefor making extra depots is a smart thing ? even if im not using all capacity at my current ones?
confusing stuff :D

also a small side question...what does many unused vehicles at depots indicate

many thanks..im having alot of fun with this game

loki100 -> RE: Quick Questions Thread (5/13/2021 12:07:08 PM)

I'm not avoiding the questions, but really suggest the logistics thread, it covers a lot of this.

At the simplest, HQ priority sets the absolute level of demand, so if all your HQs are at 1, you have more chance to meet the demand than if they are all at 4

Depot priority indicates relatively where freight goes (so its a form of demand) but their main constraint is can they process what is being delivered.

If Depot demand>over local HQ demand, freight sticks in the depots

Delivery capacity is rail yards and trucks.

So you have a global lack of delivery capacity, you use depots to process that. You may lack processing capacity in a given region (ie you can deliver more than you can process), so then you need more depots. If you can't deliver then no increase in processing capacity makes any difference.

unused trucks usually indicate that was once an important depot and now isn't. They will get re-assigned over a few turns. Note that trucks go according to depot priority, so too many high priority depots will end up consuming your trucks.

Hi, in the Air Execution phase Summary screen (shift-d) what does <Mis:Esc> mean ?
Can't find this screen explained in the manual ...

Thank you :-)

Mis:Esc -> Mission Aircraft:Escort Aircraft

So these are the losses and damages separated into the mission and escort categories.

Some ideas:

1) Set them to rest is the best advice, or link them to a HQ that is behind the lines
2) Possibly, but it will demand care in how you set things up. Best is to target a non-front line HQ and then they will drop behind the lines

In general this is good advice, you can minimise transport losses substantially this way

76mm -> RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand: (5/13/2021 3:20:06 PM)

How do you access the Strategic Reserve? Every turn I have to hunt and peck around to get the big Strat Reserve screen on the map...isn't there a hotkey for it?

When I press the hotkey for theater boxes, all i get is a non-interactive list of theater boxes and units on the left, and a blank screen with a picture with a couple of female radio operators on the right. Nothing can be clicked on, there seems no point to this screen at all?

[EDIT] I've been playing around with the interface for 30 minutes and can't find a way to open the strategic reserve...should it be this hard?

loki100 -> RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand: (5/13/2021 5:29:56 PM)

its not, cntrl+t opens the Theatres and centres on the reserve.

the wee letters above the mini-map take you to the Theatres - just pick the one you want

clicking on a unit in the Commander's report either takes you to the hex it is in or the relevant theatre box

6.10 covers most of this, more in 6.11 and then repeated and expanded in 13.1.2
