IIRC Kanga force is a good para-capable unit that should not remain on garrison duty for long. Cats can pull them out and replace them with a restricted Aussie company or two.

August 6, 1942 Actually, Kanga Force is both garrisoning Horn Island for now and at the same time preping for its next target. I have 1st Australian/A division brigade moving to Horn Island to further garrison it, plus a construction engineer and a BF. Nothing much happened today.

How are those pilots flying the P-38s? The P-38 is so scarce in replacements I usually downgrade any restricted units in the US even if that means I have to trade 2-3 other fighters for 1 P-38 but then I create one flying circus with the best available fighter pilots in the USAAF. Means there will be 80 air skill pilots on top with the rest being in the mid 75 usually, all having 70+ def skill ranging from 70-80 and an average exp of 70+. That usually means trashing Zeroes with a strato sweep like the one above if you don't run into crazy numbers. You had a kill rate of 4 or 5:1 but I would only be happy to trade a P-38 at 10:1 at this date as the enemy can pump out Zeroes at will and I'm sitting there with literally no replacement rates for the P-38 at all.

Well, let me see. A2A is 70-75. Exp is 54-81. Def is 58-74. Good, not spectacular. I did glean all the P-38Es I could from departing air groups. I had 3 P-38E units before this turn, I now have 2 and there are 29 I can use for replacements. I will have to see about rotating some pilots to get better stats. I have been training mostly for large quantities of 70 A2A pilots. I have about 800 in the reserve pool now.

There are several pilots around by default that have god like stats which I usually mass in a flying circus. And squadrons that are flying CAP non stop also get their air skills up into the mid 70s which then supplement my hero pilots. Pilots shouldn't be an issue for the Allied, airframes are. For the Japanese it's the other way around (at least for the IJNAF with the lower replacement rate), which is crazy but that's just how it is.

It is probably a good idea to create one and then more elite units. I have been spreading the wealth and putting some excellent pilots in units among good pilots. Note that the P-39D pilots did good work a turn ago, and they are about the same mixture as the P-38E pilots.

That is true, but that is what they are there for. I do not normally sweep with P-39Ds. I use them for defense and on rare occasions escort, but their short range limits them.
