Mostly nothing happened. He made more night bombing runs on Singapore, he lost a few aircraft for no gain.

CaptBeefheart -> RE: Dec 23, 1941 (9/8/2021 8:59:26 AM)

Great to see the variant system in an AAR. Thanks for doing this. If I could make a suggestion, please put a turn date on your posts.

Good choices on the variants. Against the AI I usually boost production of F4F-4s, P-39s, SBDs, PBYs and photo recon (never seem to have enough of those) and fill the P-47 gap. Accelerating the P-47 and F6F should be very helpful, not to mention the CVs and extra divisions.

Did your opponent tell you his choices on the variants?

Good luck!

Cheers,
CB

Nomad -> RE: Dec 23, 1941 (9/8/2021 2:08:44 PM)

We did not inform our opponents on what Variants we chose. Andy Mac made the changes. Adds some extra spice to the game.

Nomad -> RE: Dec 24, 1941 (9/8/2021 4:22:16 PM)

He took Tarawa today.

He also took San Fernando today.

Nomad -> RE: Dec 26, 1941 (9/9/2021 2:20:52 AM)

Dec 26, 1941 - boxing day

An xAK took a torp just off San Diego, probably will not make it to SD.

Nauru Island fell

Lost a base in China, I do not like all the new dot bases Andy Mac has put
into this updated scenario. I will have to take a screenshot or two for show
and tell.

Nomad -> RE: Dec 26, 1941 (9/9/2021 1:29:45 PM)

Dec 26, 1941

Here is a picture of the Sian area in Andy Macs updated scenario 2

Notice the number of dot bases East and Southeast of Sian. I have to
maintain a garrison in each to prevent a paratroop landing.

I just lost the base with the crossed sabers. I really do not know if
I can hold him off. I have a few options.
1. Just don't worry about it and eventually lose China.
2. Evacuate many/most/all Chinese units to Burma/India.
3. Some combination of 1 and 2.

RangerJoe -> RE: Dec 27, 1941 (9/9/2021 1:48:11 PM)

Hold Paoshan to Kunmihg, they can receive some supplies by air. Start setting up your defenses.

Nomad -> RE: Dec 27, 1941 (9/9/2021 6:03:46 PM)

Dec 27, 1941

A fleet sub found a working MK-14

Sub attack near Cam Ranh Bay at 62,75

Japanese Ships
xAK Gosei Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
DD Yugiri

Allied Ships
SS Stingray

Japanese ground losses:
37 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Lost Tsiaotso, Ocean Island and Ipoh today

xargun is being quite methodical in his expansion. Unfortunately that means very well done also. I am being crushed slowly.

Nomad -> RE: Dec 28, 1941 (9/9/2021 9:15:24 PM)

Dec 28, 1941

Not a good turn for the Allies.

First my raiding SCTF ran into a meat grinder:

Day Time Surface Combat, near Tawi Tawi at 72,88, Range 21,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
BB Kongo
BB Haruna, Shell hits 2
CA Chokai, Shell hits 1
DD Fubuki
DD Usugumo
DD Isonami
DD Shirayuki
DD Hatsuyuki

Allied Ships
CL Tromp, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Evertsen, Shell hits 10, and is sunk

Then CL Java ran into a sub

Sub attack near Soerabaja at 56,103

Japanese Ships
SS I-124

Allied Ships
CL Java, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage She sank
DD Van Ghent

And then Mini-KB showed up

Morning Air attack on TF, near Jolo at 74,90

Weather in hex: Clear sky

Raid spotted at 20 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 8 minutes

Japanese aircraft
B5N1 Kate x 17
B5N2 Kate x 3

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
CL Tromp, Bomb hits 5, heavy fires, heavy damage

Force "Z" was attacked by planes from Mini-KB, she is 7 hexes East of Balkipapan.
My real problem is that I have no idea where KB is at.

I got a small amount of retribution:

Sub attack near Hengchun at 82,68

Japanese Ships
xAP Terukuni Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
SS S-40
and
Sub attack near Laoag at 81,69

Japanese Ships
xAP Terukuni Maru, Torpedo hits 2, heavy damage
DD Hatakaze

Allied Ships
SS S-38

Nomad -> RE: Dec 28, 1941 (9/9/2021 9:23:09 PM)

I am about to quit trying to do an AAR. It took me 6 tries to post and edit the last entry, I kept getting time out errors.

RangerJoe -> RE: Dec 28, 1941 (9/9/2021 10:42:01 PM)

Here is a suggestion, do it in word or notepad and then cut and paste adding any pictures.

Ah, I didn't pick up on that. Thanks.

Good move on keeping each other's changes secret. That'll make it interesting.

I hope to see you continue this. I think most AAR writers use Word docs, then paste, as RangerJoe noted.

Cheers,

Allied Ships

japan took Lucena today

Troop convoys have arrived at Pago Pago and Vava'u

I have not been able to do much about the sub South of San Diego.
I can not seen to locate it, but I am sure it is still there. I have search
and ASW air and ASW naval TFs prowling the area. But as usual this
early in the game, my ASW efforts are not all that effective.

Not much else happening

Nomad -> RE: Dec 30, 1941 (9/10/2021 3:22:39 PM)

I wonder, this might be KB or at least a part of it. Could he have split it?
Or is this an incomplete report, the crews flying the search aircraft are not
highly trained.

The mouse over shows about 1/2 of what I would expect KB to be.

Temuloh in Malaya was lost today.

I just noticed that I-156 showed up on my sunk ship list

Nothing sank yet, but the 2 CLs most likely will.

There was some good news, this is the only sub I have detected around San Diego.
This single hit should mission kill the sub. Probably will not sink it.

Nomad -> RE: RE:Jan 2, 1942 (9/11/2021 8:12:18 PM)

Jan 2, 1942

Not much happened today.

I-2 did show up on my sunk ship list, I find it
a bit hard to accept that one DC would sink her.
Time will tell

Neither CL sunk from yesterdays screwup. KB seems to
have moved North and out of range. All of the DDs made
it to Balikapapan.

Nomad -> RE: RE:Jan 3, 1942 (9/11/2021 11:34:09 PM)

Jan 3, 1942

8 x D3A1 Val releasing from 2000'
Naval Attack: 1 x 250 kg SAP Bomb

CL De Ryter sank and CL Mauritius is in really bad shape.

I did find another sub South of San Diego

I-1 is there. I did a solid hit on her, will wait and see what happens.

Tawi Tawi and Jolo were captured by Japan today.

Another note, on Jan 1, 1942 my extra 25 per month of 40mm Bofors kicked in. Filling out those CW flak weapon slots.

Nomad -> RE: RE:Jan 19, 1942 (9/17/2021 10:46:46 PM)

I realize that I haven't kept up with this AAR. But not much happened the last 2 weeks.
He is taking the PI, Manilla fell a few days ago, but that was expected.

Today he took Palembang, and he used a shock attack to do it.

I see too many regiments and not enough divisions.

He did not reduce forts either. 300 squads destroyed and 1437 disabled will take a good while and a good amount of supply to replace.

I had spent the PPs to replace a number of commanders at Singapore. It seems to have helped.
The 11th Indian Division gained 11 experience points. The 9th Indian Division gained 13 experience points. The SSVF Brigade gained 12 experience points. This will definitely make it harder for him to take Singapore. Even the III Indian HQ and the Malaya Army HQ gained 3 and 4 points.

BBfanboy -> RE: RE:Jan 20, 1942 (9/18/2021 1:35:07 AM)

That hurt the IJA, but he brought plenty of arty, including two heavy arty Bns and 2 medium regiments. I only see one stand-alone mountain gun unit on your side. Even with 25 pounders in some of your units you will be outgunned and he can pound you while his devices recover. Is your fort level near reaching level 5?
