That hurt the IJA, but he brought plenty of arty, including two heavy arty Bns and 2 medium regiments. I only see one stand-alone mountain gun unit on your side. Even with 25 pounders in some of your units you will be outgunned and he can pound you while his devices recover. Is your fort level near reaching level 5?

He didn't bombard for the next 2 days. He lost some and over 100 were disabled. It will be a while before he can bombard effectively.

Forts are 58% to level 5 and building about 4 per day. Need maybe 11 days to get to level 5 and that should not be a problem, I doubt he will be able to do a Deliberate Attack before then.

He took Djambi today. Initial mouse over shows no damage to the oil.

But you can change that, correct? [:D]

Nomad -> RE: RE:Jan 23, 1942 (9/18/2021 3:54:28 AM)

I wish I could, no fighters near.

RangerJoe -> RE: RE:Jan 23, 1942 (9/18/2021 4:30:18 AM)

Bombers, even on night attack. The Japanese are much more likely to protect Palembang than Djambi.

I was a bit surprised to see him do a Deliberate Attack at Singapore today.

Engineers: 4 destroyed, 51 disabled
Guns lost 45 (10 destroyed, 35 disabled)
Vehicles lost 64 (30 destroyed, 34 disabled)
Units destroyed 2

The units I had destroyed were the 1st Malay Bn and the 1st Manchester Bn. Small units take heavy losses.
He did not reduce forts on this attack. My AV at Singapore is 946, so I should have a while before he takes it.

He took Yenan today, I only had a small unit occupying it.
As far as China is concerned, if he continues to make
headway, I will consider evacuating as many units as I can
to Burma/India. I think I could be about 90% of the Chineses
forces out. I have done it in previous games and the base
points are not enough for Japan to win the game. Losing
a lot of devices along with the base points can be a problem.

Nomad -> RE: Feb 1, 1942 (9/21/2021 2:34:44 AM)

A short discussion about one of my Variants, 50 oil in Melbourne.

A size 50 oil factory produces 500 oil per day and Australia starts with a size 10.
There are 55 refineries in Australia and they produce 55 supply and 495 fuel per day.

I am posting a screen shot of the resource history of Australia for the first 56 days of the game.

As you can see from the screen shot, my fuel is holding steady now at about 300,000 total.
There was a small surge at about the 30 day mark due to fuel being shipped from the DEI.
Some of that has been used for shipping around Australia. At this time I have 170 HI in operation using 340 fuel per day.

My supply is growing at a slow rate, not shown is the 40,000 or so of supply I have shipped to Port Moresby.

I am not sure it was worth the 5 Variant points, but it is useful. I have not shipped any supply or fuel to Australia outside of that which is loaded on Transport TFs taking units to Australia. There is enough for a defensive posture at this time, not really enough for offensive operations.

==================================================
One thing I forgot to comment on is that I was able to
upgrade the 9th Indian Divisions infantry squads from
Ind Inf Section to Ind Inf Section 42. This raised their
Anti-Armor from 5 to 15 and since much of Japans armor at
this time has an armor rating less that 15 that might prove
useful. And the Anti-soft went up from 14 to 19, that will
provide better defensive firepower in an attack. I will
be trying to upgrade the 11th, but they have more squads
so it will be bit longer.

BBfanboy -> RE: Feb 2, 1942 (9/21/2021 2:42:24 PM)

You know about breaking the Division into thirds and upgrading combat squads one chunk at a time? Much faster than accumulating enough squads in the pools to upgrade the whole division at the same time because the old squads go into the pools (which takes a day or two) and are instantly upgraded to the new squad type. Once the three sections are upgraded the Division can be recombined.

But you do have to set other devices to stockpile so you don't get an upgrade of something like an anti-tank gun when there aren't enough to go around the whole division (that would prevent the recombination of the division).

Nomad -> RE: Feb 2, 1942 (9/21/2021 3:02:37 PM)

Yes, that is what I did with the 9th. I am waiting for the 45th Ind Inf Bde to fully get its
squads ready, it still has 2 disabled. Even splitting the 11th, I do not have enough right now,
I only have 86 squads available.

Nomad -> Some mussings (9/22/2021 3:56:30 AM)

Thinking about what my opponent might have
chosen for his options. I have done the options for
two other game and have looked at the possibilities
a lot. I do not know what my opponent did, but I do
have some ideas about what he might have done.
I will be picking what I think is the most damaging to me
and the major items. I am sure he picked some that will
help him, but not be a major influence.

1. A7M2 Sam R&D factory(s)
I would think that choosing 1 or 2 of these makes sense
since they come fully repaired so they are creating R&D
points from turn 1. For this discussion I am going to asume
he chose 2. Without any engine bonus he will get the aircraft
by about 3/1/1944. It uses the Mitusbishi Ha-43 engine, which is
used by some other useful aircraft, J7W1 Shinden, N1K5-J George,
Ki-74-1 Patsy, and the Ki-83. This engine is available 45/9 but
can be advanced fairly easily( if I understand correctly an
engine factory will repair 1 per day always ). So it is possible
that he can get the engine bonus and advance the aircraft
even quicker, also he might have chosen to have a size 30
factory from day one. Worst case scenario is that he will have
this aircraft in production by about 4/43.

2. Ki-84a Frank R&D factory(s)
I would think that choosing 1 or 2 of these makes sense.
Without any engine bonus he will get this aircraft about
1/1/44. It uses the Nakajima Ha-45 engine which is also
used by a number of aircraft he will probably also build.
The Ha-45 engine is available 43/9. He will certainly get
an engine bonus for this aircraft. I predict he will have them
about 3/1/43. Once he has these in production he can change
his R&D to the Ki-84r Frank it uses the same engine
so moving it up a lot will not be a problem.

3. New Naval construction
I would not build any new major ships, his shipbuilding is
already a bit stressed and adding more will only add more
stress. He might build 8-12 new DDs without too much
problem.

4. Changing ship classes.
I think this is where Japan can get the most bang for the
buck. Changing some of the existing ships to new classes
does not cost any shipbuilding points.
4a. Change the Soryu to a different CV Class I am not sure
which would be best, Akagi is the largest but is a gas hog,
Kaga is slow, Shokaku might be good-they are thrifty.
4b. Change CVLs and some or all of the CS-CVL conversions
to be class Ryujo. This makes a mini KB with a possibilty
of 192 aircraft.
4c. Change a lot of the inferior DDs to better classes, I
have not looked too closely at which would be best.
4d. Change the training Cls to better classes.

5. Some misc items
5a. Increase PPs
5b. Add a 50 oil
5c. Add some supply and/or fuel at outpost bases.
5d. add a size 30 ship repair yard, possibly splitting
it into 2 size 15 - we discussed this.

As a rough guess that is about 50-65 Variant points
so there is certainly more, I am just not sure what he might
have chosen, there are a number of possibilities.
He might have added 1 or 2 size 75 airgroup(s).
He might have increased the SPS of a base or 2.
He might have added some extra ground troops.
He could have accelerated a number of aircraft
or land devices.

Not a lot to report for today
He was clearing mines at Georgetown and one of his DMSs hit a mine.

He is taking empty bases in Burma, the added small dot bases are slowing him down

More bombardments at Changsha. No attack at Singapore.
