qsmiron -> Question about sonobuoy? (9/30/2021 1:59:05 PM)

It is possible to give an order airplane to throw sonobuoys like in Harpoon? I am just trying to get dumped
buoys along the designated flight path.

thewood1 -> RE: Question about sonobuoy? (9/30/2021 2:04:05 PM)

From the in-game hotkey list

Shift + [ Drop Passive Sonobuoy, Shallow - Over Layer
[ Drop Passive Sonobuoy, Deep - Under Layer
Shift + ] Drop Active Sonobuoy, Shallow - Over Layer
] Drop Active Sonobuoy, Deep - Under Layer
Shift + D Deploy Dipping Sonar

if I remember correctly, such an order could have been left at the waypoint. When the airplane reached the waypoint it started dropping buoys regularly until the next waypoint

And in the manual pg 268

Shift+ [: Drop Passive Sonobuoy Above Layer
[: Drop Passive Sonobuoy Below Layer
Shift+]: Drop Active Sonobuoy Above Layer
]: Drop Active Sonobuoy Below Layer
Shift+D: Deploy Dipping Sonar

I know it. It's just that here we drop one and if you want to drop more, you have to tap the keyboard every time. I am asking about something more automated that was in the harpoon game

As far as dropping at waypoints, I think you'd have to do it through lua. I typically set up multiple patrol zones and use loops to do that.

Check out the video below, from 20:20 mins to 25:38 mins. In the game Harpoon, you could order drop buoys to leave the waypoint by using the semicolon key.

You asked specifically how you drop sonobouys in your first post. I answered that. I'm familiar with Harpoon and how Harpoon does it.

I also pointed out the only way to do it automatically in CMO is through lua or a loop mission. Using missions is, generally, the preferred way to do stuff like that for more seasoned players. There are some players where lua scripts are easier than building missions, but for those mortals amongst us, missions are the only way I know of to do it.

The question is whether Command copies H3's paradigm of "one sonobuoy on each course waypoint" (which IIRC means that, for instance, to lay 100 sonobuoys you have to create a 100-leg course). The short answer is that it doesn't; it uses a different method.

To drop sonobuoys at a very specific location, you drive the carrier platform on the desired spot and drop the sonobuoy manually.

Otherwise, in order to automatically flood an area with sonobuoys, you create an ASW patrol on that area and assign the carrier platform to it.

Yeah I remember this method was used in the short lived game Naval War Arctic Circle from 2012. Using that method can cause map clutter issues among other things. I like Command's method better.

Just fyi, this actually can't be done in Lua precisely (there is no way to issue the drop commands via lua ...yet), it has been brought up a couple of times that I know of a as a desired addition to the api though.

Then missions it is.

altipueri -> RE: Question about sonobuoy? (10/1/2021 8:37:27 AM)

Due to bad eyesight I read that as a question about sodomy.

I only wanted enlightenment.

I'm sure you'll get it.

Very very thx for all answer :D
