panzer51 -> Various map issues (10/12/2021 3:27:30 PM)

This is a placeholder thread for various minor map issues.

1. Karmaleva should be Karmėlava

2. Siversky is actually north of Divenskaya, they should be switched around. Given that the airbase is at Siversky, I see little reason to even keep Divenskaya.

goranw -> RE: Various map issues (10/12/2021 7:36:45 PM)

This has been pointed out before.
Siversky should as you say be SO Krasnogwardeisk.
Krasnogwardeisk should also be an airfield from start.
I think that on many maps Siversky is mixed with Sivoritsy.
Here are some facts about these airfields.

Denniss -> RE: Various map issues (10/13/2021 1:07:27 PM)

List for me or John to work on:

Immola AF (173,104) -> Nummela AF
Siversky (194,108)		-> find/add Axis capture date

--
Requires scenario change:
Karmaleva AF (180,146) -> Karmelava (airbase rename)
Siversky (194,108)		-> move 2 clicks N to 194,106 (airbase location change)
Krasnogvardeysk (193,105)	-> (add airbase)

x NEW x
xxxxxxx
187,93 Immola AF

captured on August 1, 1941, liberated January 30, 1944

panzer51 -> RE: Various map issues (10/13/2021 1:40:50 PM)

Kretinga is in the wrong place it should be just north of Memel, at 167,141. It should also be railyard 1, it was a pretty big station. The town at the end of Liepaja spur south is Rucava (167,140)

panzer51 -> RE: Various map issues (10/13/2021 2:36:33 PM)

Izmail should also have a level 1 airbase. 96 OIAE VVS VMF was based there (14 I-15bis, 3 I-153).

Denniss -> RE: Various map issues (10/13/2021 3:21:42 PM)

Chaplynka (234,199) -> find/add Axis capture date

Any info on this location?

That's near Kherson, right? Captured September 12, 1941 liberated October 31, 1943

panzer51 -> RE: Various map issues (10/13/2021 4:54:29 PM)

Kikeritsy should be renamed Kiorstovo. This was one of main air bases for the KBF VVS.

goranw -> RE: Various map issues (10/13/2021 6:12:11 PM)

Accordingly to my sources Siversky (Siwerskaja)
german number 10191 was probably occupied 28 aug.
See the frontlines red 5 aug.
yellow 19 aug.
green 9 sept.
see also air units arrival and departure.
The yellow and red rows are occupation dates.

panzer51 -> RE: Various map issues (10/13/2021 7:06:12 PM)

You're absolutely right, my bad. The airbase was vacated on August 28, 1941, Germans arrived in early September. JG54 started operations from the airfield on Sept 5

panzer51 -> RE: Various map issues (10/14/2021 2:14:44 AM)

Add Manushkino (196, 102) this was one of the airfields north of Leningrad (parts of 26 IAP were based there for example). Also there should be a railroad connection to Mga. The rail line from Ladoga Railway station to Mga was built in 1940 including Kuzminsky bridge across Neva. In fall 1941 the bridge was blown up by the retreating Red Army.

Also add Nikolskoe (193,106) this is where Sivoritsy airfield was located. I think it's being mixed with Siversky. 201 SBAP was based there for example.

Airfields of Leningrad M.D. (south part) on 29 July 1941 - interactive map

Some AF's are not presented because its was under control of KBF or other fronts (on south).

goranw -> RE: Various map issues (10/14/2021 8:48:15 AM)

airfields around Leningrad are a longstanding discussion.
This was my input I think 2020.

Dreamslayer -> RE: Various map issues (10/14/2021 10:20:56 AM)

During my research about aviation around Leningrad I found this report:
List of airfields for battle use (?) with code numbers. Leningrad M.D. 23 June 1941 - link
There are 90 airfields. Need keep in mind that Leningrad M.D. it was large area up to Murmansk on north. Again, its without AF's of VMF or nearby M.D.'s.
My spreadsheet of these AF's (name area).
Yea, its all in Russian, but names in the spreadsheet can be easily translated.

How I can attach my file right here?

goranw -> RE: Various map issues (10/14/2021 10:46:57 AM)

Another link

panzer51 -> RE: Various map issues (10/14/2021 2:15:06 PM)

That's an issue throughout, but Leningrad actually is fairly well represented unlike other parts of the map. Most of the airfields were former crop fields, so technically they could be everywhere.

Denniss -> RE: Various map issues (10/15/2021 1:42:26 PM)

Regarding Siversky, was another airfield at the current location? Would be easier (and less risky) to just rename a location + add a new one than to move an existing location + airbase

Do you have capture dates for Kretinga at its new location or is it more or less the same as its old location (AKA Rucava)?

Sure about the name? can only find Kerstovo/Korstovo via Google

well, that's the question of transliteration as it is a Russian letter Ё, so technically Korstovo and Kerstovo do not quite transmit the sound. Typically io, or yo would be a proper transliteration of the sound. But you can use either I guess for simplicity.

Not really

panzer51 -> RE: Various map issues (10/15/2021 2:18:47 PM)

By the way, are you open to adding more locations to the map? Baltics look very empty, and a few places could be added.

Also, Shumsk should be Shumskas.

Denniss -> RE: Various map issues (10/16/2021 11:36:50 AM)

Regarding Siversky I'd say leave it there but reduce size to 1. a proper name should be used for this location - suggestion?
Moving location+airbase may get problems with AI in some scenarios, especially if it starts populated by an air unit.

A new Siversky (Siverskaya?) should be created with size-2 airfield at 194,106
Krasnogvardeysk and Luga should get a size-2 airfield

Looks like there was nothing special between Mshinskaya and Divenskaya. Better to clear this hex, I see no reason why there should be AF.
Siverskaya and Siverskiy - both names used in various Soviet documents and sources. So which is more correct hard to say.

the town is called Siversky, but the railway station is Siverskaya. I'd stick with Siversky.

goranw -> RE: Various map issues (10/16/2021 7:25:28 PM)

One type 2 airfield in Siversky/Siverskaya. Hex 194/106
One type 2 airfield in Krasnogwardeisk/Sivoritsy Nikolskoye. hex 193/105
One type 2 airfield in Luga/Schmytschkowo/Gorodez/Luga II Gostkino. Hex 194/111
Even if Gorodez is a bit off in location.
Airfield Siversky hex 194/108 is reasonably not correct.

Southern Caucasus, Soviet-Iranian/Turkish border.
Aras river it's a border river. So hexes to south of the river should be non-soviet and vice versa. The railroad along the border it's a part of Soviet TransCaucasus railroad and should be on Soviet side.

Also I wonder why is it possible to play in the game somewhere behind Ural but Southern Soviet Caucasus (Southern Armenia and around) you can't.

Denniss -> RE: Various map issues (11/8/2021 10:57:40 AM)

Looks better?
