Capt Cliff -> How to change unit colors? (1/13/2022 9:46:57 PM)

I recently purchased Case Blue from Steam but after playing for a while I am finding I am having trouble with SS and Guards units having the same color, black. Can I change the Guards units to another color? Or change the color of the counter text? This is strange to have enemy units the same color!

I believe you can do it in the editor, under reg. Here you can choose one of them, find a different color and then save it as another name. Then you load up that new scenario with the other name, when you want to play the game. You'd have to do this for EACH of the scenarios you intended it to be changed in.

I was wrong. You do it in ppl.

Here you select the SS (for instance), and you choose the menu item colour. (Marked out on the picture shown below)... You can choose from a range of colors there, or make your own from a color board.

If you want to modify a people that has the color -1,-1,-1 in the above color selection (which means no colors are chosen for this specific people type), then you have to go into the "His" menu. Here the Historical Units (and officers) are present.

In a menu item buried deep down, there is an item called color. The value of this is then applied to the people color (for instance soviets) and that creates a new color. In this case, as can be seen below, MODELs will have to be changed on a model for model basis.

If you want to change the text, and along with it the counter symbol color, then the method is thankfully a bit more simple. In the below picture, that is from the "reg" menu. Choose the picture with the guy on it. That is when you have chosen the regime you want to change it for. Then choose another color for it.

All the above have to be saved of course.

Oh, and sorry it took me so long to finally answer this. I'll send you a PM telling you I commented.

ppl is short for People.

Not sure how I would "... do it in people."? I use the editor? Can I change the colors for a game I am already playing? Oh, can I just change the text color. Like make all Soviet Guards units text Red. I just need a way to tell the black units apart.

Yes. All the changes I suggested in the above require the use of the editor.

You have to load the scenario up, enter the editor, make the changes, save the Scenario, preferably with another name. Then when done you can play with that scenario, instead of the one in the menu, and get the desired effect.

In the above I outline the two options for how to change the color of a unit type, and one option to change the unit text, for all counters of that nation.

Personally I would go for the easiest change, making the text colors different for each nation. I would go with yellow for the Soviets, mostly because the change will effect all the counters. So the red ones would have the same text color as the blackish (Guards) ones.

And no, you cannot change the color for a game you are already playing, I believe.
