Turn 19. Practically zero attacks across the front, slight pushing at Voronezh. Dunno why, it'll be an easy +6 VP for me even if I lose it.

We form our first Guards Rifle Corps. The first of hopefully many, it will prove a devastating bludgeon in blizzard.

OOB Turn 19. I am counting down the turns until I get another free 500,000 men from papa Stalin. No doubt it will replace any losses incurred during snow.

Total losses for Barbarossa.

Here's a look at depots. As my OOB increases and the front stagnates, the supply demanded drops ever lower.

Every unit in the Red Army is Green! Except those just arriving, anyway.

I am not at the same 'level' so to say because in my Russian game I am defending the south - to play fair. And I am at 3M men at Turn8 roughly, on map.
And my supply requirement is like 10k, everything at Priority 4 and pretty much not feeling any shortage in terms of freight.

The real Russian limit is just manpower and gun production there.

Stamb -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/3/2022 9:00:28 PM)

No. You cant say that. I refuse to believe!

Turn 20. All is quiet on the Eastern Front.

Very quiet turn, I only make one attack at the VL area. Otherwise, just waiting for blizzard. I am practically out of armies to use.

Whilst we wait for more interesting turns to come, here's a picture of the other soviet game I'm in. In this game I broke AGC's pocket turn 1, which as we all know cripples German momentum. Usually I houserule that the soviets can't break it if the Germans defend it reasonably well, but I was in the mood for highlighting how strong the Soviets can be and so did not.

Very reminiscent of my game against Beethoven. I currently have a 3.7m OOB as of turn 7.

Stamb -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/4/2022 8:33:54 AM)

Why there is no SU from the Axis side?

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/4/2022 8:50:29 AM)

Inexperience? I'm not sure if I said this on the thread or on discord, but most German players - especially if they've played wite1 only - aren't used to panzers being so easily hittable.

Stamb -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/4/2022 9:09:53 AM)

Axis side has enough artillery to have at least 2-3 SU in each corps. And while advancing they can focus most of their arty/rocket SU under the best leaders which are typically leading panzers/motorized forces. Also it is possible to attach motorized AA units directly to mobile units. It would not change results of that battle but I am sure that artillery would disrupt some Soviet forces. Add this to a multiple turns and its all sum up.

There was Axis player in this thread. It is really useful to manage SU.
Stugs/flame panzers are really great for city battles.

There are 2 RS** something multi role units (around 10 CV each). One is one a map. And another one acts as SU from the start. They are really strong. You can try and attach that SU to a tank division directly. It would make RedJohn's attacks much more costly.

Or you can attach that unit to a SS division and make an unstoppable force.

Jango32 -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/4/2022 9:45:57 AM)

I suspect he kept his SUs in the corps and the attack was so overwhelmingly hopeless to defend against that the SUs didn't get sent into battle.

AlbertN -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/4/2022 11:17:39 AM)

First time I see also the vvs that mighty in the grind support. I am used to the list of 0 hits by the 90 experience lufwaffe pilots. Here I see the 30 vvs surviving bombers blasting 5 panzer è damaging 12 more lol.

Jango32 -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/4/2022 11:28:24 AM)

Now the fundamental question is if the same performance can be repeated by the Luftwaffe or if the Stukas are just going to be duds...

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/4/2022 4:46:58 PM)

Mostly quiet, though some tough pushing at Crimea. He falls back from Voronezh - a wise decision. I will avoid advancing so he cannot build level 3 forts.

OOB Turn end. We make no moves, besides further movement for blizzard. Lots of leader replacements.

Nevermind. Crimea is broken! I was sort of expecting something like this to happen, but was hoping blizzard would be a big enough dissuasion to make him avoid doing it.

So it looks like sadly Sevastapol will, if nothing else, become under siege.

Turn 24. Blizzard is approaching. I think a picture says a thousand words.

Clearly the Supply-Unit per Soldier is less and so is the Ammo-Unit per Soldier too.

Supposedly a static 5M men should require way more Supply than a static - whichever the Axis army is, it is less than that.

Soviet soldiers don't actually use less supply. "Sup need" is just misleading as compared to what the name intuitively sounds like it would be, because it is not taking into account the fact that different units will have different amounts of supply already in stock at the beginning of the logistics phase.

Germany has 0 "Sup need" at the start of the first turn and comparatively low "Sup need" on turn 2 for the same reason - because all of its units start with full supply, so at least for that one turn they would not lack supply if there were 0 delivery of additional supplies to supplement what they already start off with in stock.

Stamb -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/5/2022 11:18:03 AM)

German ID that has enough freight nearby and did not participate in any battle is consuming around 100 tons of supplies. Not ammo and not fuel.

AlbertN -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/5/2022 11:45:21 AM)

That is so for the first turns but come static front '42 / '43 the supply needs of Axis skyrocket then even if troops stay litterally put in place.

There is a difference - and that is beyond what units have already in stock!

An attack of that size in early August should be suffering massive penalties.

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/5/2022 9:30:21 PM)

Turn 25. Blizzard around Voronezh, nowhere else. We shall advance and see if any hexes can be hit.

Next turn predicts blizzard across the front though, and is when our attack shall commence.

Crimea continues to collapse.
