We make contact with German lines at the Centre. I avoid moving to the hexes near Orel, as it's not heavy snow yet nor blizzard.

OOB turn 25, before it all comes tumbling down.

Turn 26. The Germans continue to fallback from the Voronezh area, but they can only fall back so much before I freely retake Kursk and Orel.

Blizzard covers the front.

We attack across the front except Crimea. Yalta and Sevastapol are cityforts, whilst the 9th army fights a retreat to Kerch which I will also cityfort with the remnants of their forces.

Out of 33 attacks we have 7 holds. A pretty good start, but maintaining momentum can be difficult.

OOB at our height. I expect this number to fall dramatically over the coming turns as the attrition wears us down.

Our jump in on-map forces is the result of me sending about 300 - 500k worth of brigades to the map. I haven't decided what to do with them yet.

2:1 numerical superiority plus blizzard effects, if your opponent doesn't run, the Wegrmacht will be completely wrecked in 03.1942

Stamb -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 1:02:11 PM)

5.3mil, 5.7mil men already in the first winter...

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 1:35:17 PM)

The power of running away mixed with reinforcing moscow and leningrad with SW/S front units turns 1-3 [:)]

The worst I've had it in terms of OOB was during the artillery patch, as losses were bad enough in both areas that my OOB stagnated.

Stamb -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 1:47:23 PM)

Did you still win in arty patches?

I had 3 games as soviets in arty patch, 2 of them were against someone who was relatively inexperienced (which were won handily) and the 3rd against bluesky, which I briefly talked about in the OP. I took pretty bad casualties during that game, and he was still managing to push tiles easily during heavy snow at Leningrad. As said in the OP though he was busy with life and so resigned. I don't know which way it would've went, but I was pretty confident in winning given how winter went.

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 2:02:45 PM)

Turn 27. Axis retreat in many places, but avoid retreating in others.

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 2:03:43 PM)

Casualties for the turn. It's important to note that a lot of those casualties were Romanians, and not German.

Romanians, as ever, are fodder.

56 battles this turn, 3 holds. 1 of them due to the accursed motorised units north-east of Smolensk, on the approach to Vyazma. They have thwarted many an attack. [:@]

Good job. Something we do not see your brave corps, what SUs do they have? soon deep cavalry raids? ;)

Are you not showing the map on a larger scale because the game is running without delay? Would like to screenshots in a more convenient scale (CV). Thx you

It's force of habit to avoid showing CVs. I'll include them in future screenshots and do a frontwide tour.

All of my corps have either rifle brigades or tank brigades as SUs. I lost around half of my AFVs in one battle with the tank brigades, and they're probably not reinforcing anytime soon, but the important thing is the wins. Even if they're 1/100 TOE, I believe, they will still get a win if the division wins combat.

My Guards Rifle Corps has if I recall either 2 rifle brigades and a tank brigade, or 3 rifle brigades. Rifle brigades are one of if not THE best Soviet SU. They're incredibly versatile multirole units.

I am partial to deep cavalry raids also, yes. As soon as there's a gap!

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 3:15:34 PM)

View of the front, turn 28. The axis forces are expected to get a reprieve next week with blizzards abating.

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 3:21:22 PM)

In the south, Batov and Fedyuninsky command the defence of Yalta and Sevastapol from their... boats, I guess? The downside to this is we don't get artillery activation's, obviously, but besides that it minimizes the risk of them being killed I think.

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 3:23:29 PM)

The 3rd Shock Army, 56th and 48th armies command the Donets and Rostov areas. Bezugly leads the 48th, Dovator the 56th, and Gusev the 3rd Shock Army.

Much of the reserves here were presumably moved to break Crimea, meaning the front is manned by Romanians. Hardly a threat.

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 3:25:38 PM)

The 37th, 55th, and Coastal Armies command the area at Stalino. Malinovsky commands the 55th, Purkaev the 37th, and Vasilevsky the Coastal Army.

Much of the original german forts have been overran, but we need to be cautious here because blizzard can quickly dissipate and their CVs rapidly regenerate.

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 3:31:11 PM)

At Kursk, we have the 57th, Coastal OpGr, 2nd Shock, 43rd, 5th, and 54th armies. Kurdyumov commands the 57th, Vatutin the Coastal OpGr, Reiter the 2nd Shock, Golikov the 43rd, Grechko the 5th, and Yushkevich the 54th. Forces here have mostly played catchup, but I'll rest the majority this turn given blizzard is set to dissipate.

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 3:34:48 PM)

At Orel we have... Many armies. Orel itself has been abandoned except for an infantry regiment, which I will gladly try to rout.

In total we have the 16th, 24th, 29th, 61st, Neva OpGr, 28th, 52nd, 1st Shock, 40th and 13th armies. Rokossovsky commands the 16th, Bobkin the 24th, Petrov the 29th, Yakovlev the 61st, Gagen the Neva OpGr, Tolbukhin the 28th, Khozin the 52nd, Boldin the 1st Shock, Govorov the 40th, and Korzun the 13th.

At Smolensk we have 21st, 12th, 38th, 20th, 30th, 31st, 50th, and 33rd armies.
Z
Beloborodov (say that ten times rapidly) commands the 21st, Lelyushenko the 12th, Tsvetaev the 38th, Zakharov the 20th, Gordov the 30th, Sokolovsky the 31st, Snegov the 50th, and Galitsky the 33rd.

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 3:40:14 PM)

The approach to VL has most of our on map mountaineers. The 22nd army is led by Kurochkin, and the 34th by Bagramyan.

Finally Leningrad. We have the 49th, 3rd, 42nd, Luga OpGr, 4th, 8th, 4th Shock, 11th and 6th armies.

Koroteev commands the 49th, Kuznetsov the 3rd, Shcherbakov the 42nd, Zhadov the Luga OpGr, Galanin the 8th, Berzarin the 4th Shock, Morozov the 11th and Evgeny Zhuravlev the 6th.

That is why I believe my game vs MSAG is still going on - during Arty Patch the Soviet OOB was not growing up til the bad weather arrived - which prevented a facerolling Soviet Winter.

The German player here in this game is very brave if they stick around. But I doubt the game will be any enjoyable for them unless they're in for a learning session to treasure on!

RedJohn -> RE: The Red Army Is (Not) Overpowered - A tongue in cheek aar (2/6/2022 3:55:25 PM)

I isolate Orel. I was going to just rout it, but I figured I might as well use it as a free win for 18 units.
