DELTA32 -> GUARDS COUNTERATTACK ! (7/31/2001 2:01:00 AM)

Whoah !! ! ! ! I decided to load up WB's SPWAW version of the first three scenario's from AH's famous Squad Leader. Playing the first one using 6.1 I entered a stone building with a 30 man element and was promptly wiped out by a Guards SMG squad. Hmmmm....."one shot, one (unit) kill." ? ? ? Seems very odd to me that 30 truppen of the vaunted Wehrmacht bite the dust in "one shot". Any comments....enlighten me players. Wild Bill if you are reading this...what's the scoop ? I'm not saying it's impossible...just Odd ! Delta 3-2

Those were actually done by Paul Saunders. I don't want to step into his spotlight. I find them very playable and never had this experience. One possibility (a guess on my part) is that the squads once numbered beyond 19 begin to behave weirdly. It may be that the computer is not recognizing those additional numbers. I read somewhere that numbers above 19 are not seen by the computer. I have not had your experience yet Delta so I can't say for sure. I'll give it another try. It might be wiser to have three smaller squads instead of an entire platoon in one unit. Wild Bill

This scenario uses "oversized squads" to keep teh unit density down and that leads to some strange behavior as every man in such a unit gets an SMG shot, IIRC these Soviet squads are 18 men, so walk into the street with 30 guys and ave 18 open up on you with SMGs and carnage can (if you are unlucky) happen. I used that scenario as one of the 'balance' ases for test 6.1 and I never rhad a whole unit vaporize (did see 12 or 15 casualties a couple times). Its possble if the "dice go against you".
