john g -> Going to install 6.1, what is the preferred way? (8/1/2001 5:09:00 AM)

I got my cable modem installed Monday so I finally could update my rather out of date files.
I have already removed as much of 4.3b as I can, the uninstall was from v2.x and aborted when it didn't find those files. I then just brute force deleted the SPWAW folder and I know I have to go back and edit the registry when I have a day or ten available.
When that happened I was glad I had backed the directory off to the cdrw, so I could in a pinch just copy the files back to the harddrive.
I did a trial install to test the install files for download errors, none detected, with 5.01 install, 5.2 upgrade, 6.1 upgrade, and stereo sounds upgrade (just for kicks).
Am I better off doing the reboot between each exe, or will it work just as well with one reboot at the end?
Could I just reinstall v1.0, update to 2.x and then uninstall that or will I just get the duplicates of what is there now removed.
Don't suggest regclean or a similar program, I have a win95 machine that now is back to running dos after regclean mangled files.
thanks, John.
