YohanTM2 -> renamed: wrong original heading (4/14/2004 9:09:22 PM)

I think the heading I used was inappropriate and I apolgize to Matrix. My issue was that two very good gamers I know who have been waiting for this game for too long and are now not going to buy it due to delays.

This is frustrating to me as they are my principle opponents and we share a camraderie which goes all the way back to setting up WiE on the ping pong table (and a side table!) in the 70s. Always willing to play new folks but not playing my buddies sucks.

Hanal -> RE: renamed: wrong original heading (4/14/2004 9:18:49 PM)

But Yohan, I mentioned this before and I have to ask again...delays are always frustrating, but gaming, afterall should be a small portion of a person's life and general fulfillment, so while being annoyed, to simply become close minded about it is a waste of energy...How can your buddies be so turned off by the delay that they now refuse to purchase it ?...Do you honestly believe that when the game comes out, and you tell them (hopefully) that it's great, are they really going to be so unmoved and still not desire it?....true grogs would never do that; as being a true grog means having patience...I hope they reconsider once the game is released, because it will be their lose....

I agree completely, but with other games moving to the forefront and one of them especially having limited funds they are going to spend elsewhere...I do hope to change their minds eventually.

Hanal -> RE: renamed: wrong original heading (4/15/2004 12:23:10 AM)

Ok, if limited funds are an issue then I can understand that completely.........

Black Hat -> RE: renamed: wrong original heading (4/15/2004 12:31:47 AM)

Marshall, please keep up the good work. We who love and have played EiA, know how the rules can be.... interesting.

I mean Austrian Insurrection corp, Russian cosacks, Turk feudals, Prussian friekorp all have their own nuances, depending on who owns what, and what month it is.

Plus the one thing many grognards love and hate about this game is the nebulous nature of the rule set. Sometimes it is what it doesn't say you can't do, that will be your challenge.[;)]

pasternakski -> RE: renamed: wrong original heading (4/15/2004 1:14:45 AM)

Let me try one more time to explain this so that you can pass it along to your "buddies": The original game was NOT Empires in Arms. It was to be a new computer simulation of war in the Napoleonic era. THAT FIRST GAME HAS LONG SINCE DIED.

The Empires in Arms project was undertaken not much more than a year ago (ask Matrix if you don't believe me). The development time has been remarkably SHORT, if you ask me. THERE HAVE BEEN NO DELAYS!

pasternakski is absolutely correct about all of that.

I know that it is politically incorrect to say this, but it was not a good day when the original idea for the game died. Not a good day at all. [:(]

direct from the press release you twit...

"Staten Island, NY, September 23rd, 2002 - Matrix Games and Australian Design Group (ADG: www.a-d-g.com.au ) are pleased to announce that the classic game of Napoleonic Grand Strategy, Empires In Arms, will be adapted for computer play with some new enhancements and features. Development is already well underway, with an expected release date of mid-2003."

Last time I looked August 2004 is not mid-2003. Try and get your facts straight next time.

Geez Tondu, I usually respect your opinion but why are you supporting obvious misinformation?

A press release announcing a new project with an "expected" release date is not a promise.

You twit.

But there is no reason for you and me or anyone else to be wrangling like enemies over some unfulfilled, undefined expectations. What do you want Marshall and Matrix to do? Squat down in the middle of your living room floor and sh1t you a perfect game on command to suit your time demands, while chanting the mantra, "Yohanjob or myhanjob, de Lawd ain't gonna do dat job?"

Yohan, why do you keep arguing with pastrami?? He is so obviously wrong, and I also think he is refering to some other argument.

Pastrami: Yohan was originally refering to how long this game (since the declaration of an EiA port (Sept. 2002 OBVIOUSLY) ) has been under development. How can you continue to argue that it wasn't EiA that has been under development since Sept. 2002, when he just posted a direct quote??? It's obvious you don't like to consider yourself wrong much, or ever possibly, as most twits don't, but you are WRONG.

No, no, no, my friend. It really isn't misinformation. NOT at all.

Go back to a time BEFORE that press release. Go back to a time when very few people ever came "here" --when "here" was actually someplace else. It was a different discussion forum back then. Go back to a time before the archived threads and posts were lost to hacking. I'm talking about going back more than a year Yohan.

pasternakski is correct, I tell you. He tells the truth. I was there.

I have to say that pasternakski ticked me off so much (back then) that he was put on my ignore list. Why would I ever support his assertions if they weren't correct?? It wouldn't make sense if I did.

The game will be out when it is out. I really wish I could push a button and have this game appear in your hands with all the updates and patches that you could ever hope for.

You know, it makes no sense to carry around a hatchet. (I ought to know because, I tried it for a little while --and believe me, it sucks.) It makes much better sense to bury the hatchet instead. Especially here.

So, what'd you say?
[:)]

denisonh -> RE: renamed: wrong original heading (4/15/2004 8:03:56 PM)

Thanks David, that is all I ask for.

"When it is done".

As for the pre-EiA days on this board, I remember it well enough that I was looking forward to a new approach.

Porting EiA, in comparison to my expectations and some others who visited then, is something less exciting than the original concept.

But life is full of disappointments, and I now look forward to a quality product that does justice to the Napoleonic period WHEN IT IS DONE, and not before.

Not a "Coaster"

Not a buggy, half finished piece of junk hurried so it could be sold for Christmas (Anyone seen that?)

Not a game that accepts marginiality for the sake of a timely release.

Matrix has promised not to do the things that aggravate gamers (particurly grognards) with the "mainstream" game producers. They promised not to let economic or OTHER pressures force premature release of games.

They have held true and I respect that.

Some of you need to buy Campaign on The Danube to relieve some serious stress problems :D

Arguing that the game is not late.....incredible, these people would debate the colour of sh!te for weeks without admitting they've made a mistake.

How about you keep personal insults out of the game-related threads? I would also prefer being addressed by my actual forum ID.

ROFLMAO, You really must be kidding. Why don't you start by practicing this policy yourself? You might find it works.

Absolutely Denisoh - I want a complete game that works when sold, not one that I have to download new patches for constantly. Empires in Arms is a huge effort to play, and if the multiplayer works well, it would enable us grognards to have something that we could actually find seven players for - even if we're spread all over the net.

Actually, many people, including myself, have stopped playing CotD as we await a patch, so there is wisdom in not releasing a game too soon........
