Hi, I won't believe it unless you have a newspaper with the correct date in the screen shot.

Raverdave -> RE: Storms storms and more storms (1/28/2005 2:46:01 PM)

The airwar in China has really ramped-up this turn. RAF Spitfires tangle with Zeros, and seem to come out on top.

It looks like Raver has relocated his B-25 armada. (I'm curious how he managed to assemble a force that size before Fall '42.) Since there were no Japanese flights, are we seeing a repeat of the Rangoon debacle?

PzB74 -> RE: Storms storms and more storms (1/29/2005 3:45:41 AM)

This AAR justifies all the chances I'm taking in my game against Wobbly! Already by the fall of 42 huuge Allied air armadas are starting to smash up Jap bases, making it extremely difficult to win a prolonged battle.

Going for broke is dangerous - but from my point of view - the only viable option if the Jap player wants to avoid firebombing and utter ruin! [:o]

I'll be surprised if the banana can come through this storm with his peel still on....!-)

Great AAR guys, I'm enjoying it - keep it up!

Luskan -> RE: Storms storms and more storms (1/29/2005 5:39:34 AM)

Never underestimate the pain a well placed banana can cause an opponent.
Peel or no!

Andy Mac -> RE: Storms storms and more storms (1/29/2005 1:24:59 PM)

I shudder at the supply required to keep 140 B25 C's on th ego in China....

Luskan -> RE: Storms storms and more storms (1/29/2005 2:40:37 PM)

Sunk ship list where the jap ships start.

[image]local://upfiles/7090/Jg142961102.jpg[/image]

Luskan -> RE: Storms storms and more storms (1/30/2005 1:06:37 AM)

Raver took one look at this screenie - reconned Rabaul and saw the newly arrived Kirishima (back in port where she should have stayed originally) recovering from her wounds which should have sunk her.

Fortunately for me she didn't, and I've pulled her back from the brink. I'm expecting large port raids over the next few days, followed by (possibly) some CV air coming to play in the area to try and finish her.

And of course, she'll never outrun the sub picket that is less than a week away.

Raver's CVs are probably due for thier next refit sometime soon - the one all jap admirals are frightened of which turns from into AA superdreadnaughts.

I am having to use all of my C-47s to try and keep the flow of supplies up, but it is just not working. I am now looking at scaleing back my B-25 ops to once a week, as the supply drain is just too much. I have no idea how the hell I am supposed to furnish the supplies needed for B-29 ops if and when I use them out of China[8|]

Bah ! Japanese propaganda ![8|]

Andy Mac -> RE: Storms storms and more storms (1/30/2005 4:23:52 AM)

I think thats the whole point it takes 2 years to stockpile enough supplies for a B29 to take off never mind actually carry bombs....

No 1 on my transports going to India from West Coast is a couple of C 47 Groups plus a couple of squadrons you need that many to have a chance at operating anything out of China as well as all UK airlift and the dutch boys rescued from DEI

Luskan -> RE: Storms storms and more storms (1/30/2005 7:58:29 AM)

Don't forget all the fighters and troops Raver's massed in China. He doesn't do things by halves. 1 minute, its easy to blow holes in the chinese industry (since they never have the supply stockpiled to repair it - or the eng on hand for that matter) and I got some good hits in. Probably not crippling blows however. Then the next minute ther are spitfires and warhawks and hurricanes all over the bloody joint.

Thats the one draw back of this game....as supreme commander I can order any ship, aircraft or soldier where ever I want, we as in real life this was just not possible, and of course the same applies for the IJN player.

Luskan -> RE: Storms storms and more storms (1/30/2005 11:19:41 AM)

Wrose for the Jap player as the supreme commander also gets to be the government in charge of the war economy as well.

Unfortunately, I've screwed up a few things that I should have been better at on this front.

1. I didn't pay attention when someone told me that oscars/nates have different upgrade paths depending on army/navy/something or other. I assumed once I had tonys, all my oscars would update to tonys. Nup - onl yhave did. The other half needed a different sort of oscar I hadn't bothered with etc.

2. I did far too much production and not enough research to begin with.

3. I centralised my economy in the home islands (damned auto convoy) sucking oil and resources back there from EVERYWHERE - then turning it into supply. Much more efficient to have singapore, bangkok, shanghai and hongkong piled with resources and oil as well - producing supplies at the forward industry bases. Means you don't have to ship/transport it as far. This has been a big prob. In my new games I'm going to be sure not to screw this up.

4. Careful when you expand industries. Don't over expand. About the only 2 things a jap palyer can't over expand are armament factories and repair ports. Especially repair ports. Having 500 repair points at 3 or 4 ports in the home islands that are EMPTY of any ships at all when you pull K.B. in . . . you split them up a few big and little ships at each repair port. Speeds things up SOOOOooooo much.

5. training. Do I really need 4 squadrons of zeroes on 60% cap over Osaka Kobe in 1942?? Probably not.

Raverdave -> Looking looking looking (1/30/2005 12:56:50 PM)

Well I've had my Cvs swanning around in the south Pacific since the raid on Rabal, but Luskan has not been brave enough to come and play. So now it is time to retire some of them for upgrades. Drats. I was really looking forward to a CV on CV clash, and now it is going to have to wait for a few months. Else where things are very quite, with the exception of rangoon which looks like Luskan has crammed in every fighter that he can get his hands on........pity that I have lost interest in that little sideshow.

Luskan -> Never give a sucker an even break. (1/30/2005 1:17:55 PM)

Raver isn't a real good liar. He hasn't lost interest in Rangoon - otherwise he wouldn't be reconning like a hungry dog, and this turn he sent the entire AVG for a bit of a fighter sweep.

I waited 9 days, and the smacked squadrons at Rangoon still hadn't recovered more than 50% (plenty of emergency supply shipped in), so I crated those second string fools up and sent them off to singers (all 300) to train until they're back above 70. They should get to 70 exp in time to fight off the superfortresses. Maybe.

Then I sent in some 1st stringers. Not the best of the best of course - they're all on CVs or in the home islands being saved for that special CV battle, but close.

Raver should have sent his medium bombers in to escort the AVG [8|]

I know it is time for the allied CV refit (and the jap cv refit too) but the difference is Raver can afford to do all his at once, whereas I have to shuffle (because of port limitations. Raver has the repair facilities on the west coast to do ALL of them at once, have them offline for a month or two. Is going to take me 6 months to do).

Real Combat scores are I lost 12, Raver lost 35, but i'm still happy with that. The first major victory over the AVG for this war - and unfortunately it has come way too late. Raver doesn't need them - he's got plenty of other allied fighters to rely on.

Enjoy.

Raverdave -> RE: Never give a sucker an even break. (1/30/2005 2:07:10 PM)

I just lost a large portion of my experianced pilots and I have only myself to blame[:(] And it gets worse.......bombing operations in China don't look like they will be able to fly again for at least a month....supply is a major issue and one that cannot be solved with only 4 squadrons of C-47s[:(]

And the real kicker is that I cannot send them (the B-25s) back to Akyab because I don't have anything left that can escort them to Rangoon anymore[:(]

Luskan -> RE: Never give a sucker an even break. (1/30/2005 3:08:28 PM)

Quick note:
My top living Pilot kills wise is Pilot Officer 2nd Class P. Hori, with 11 kills from 49 missions and only 89 experience. He is of course, a zero pilot.

I have 4 other zero pilots with 2-4 kills on 99 experience. I'm hoping this gives them a chance when they go head to head with the corsairs I'm expecting in 43.

Raverdave -> Allied Topguns (1/31/2005 9:52:46 AM)

Raverdave -> "Too cold to fly sir" (1/31/2005 1:59:13 PM)

I am growing frustrated with my airfarce units that are (trying) to operate in the North Pacific. Currently I am experiancing 50% servicability rate, and that is with out even having seen a jap, let alone firing a shot in anger. Good aircraft and good pilots are being needlessly wasted and all because that idiot Luskan wanted to plant the rising sun flag on some ice-blown rocks of US territory[:-]

From what I can read of the AAR, the Burma Road is still open. (And likely to stay that way for the duration of the war.) Is there a bug with supplies by truck intead of by rail?

ZonkerHarris -> RE: Feeding the B-25's (2/2/2005 1:19:45 AM)

I don't think it's a bug, it's more of a drop in the bucket. According to rule 14.9, "if a rail/highway/road/trail path free of Japanese units between Yunan and Ledo or between Yunan and Rangoon can be traced, than each day, 500 supply points per turn are added to Yunan." You might get a bit more flowing over the trail by the game's regular supply rules, but even so it won't go very far against China's needs.

Raverdave -> RE: Feeding the B-25's (2/2/2005 8:42:31 AM)

Correct, it is not a bug................it is simply that fact that China is vast with hugh armies. Supplies via roads just don't cut it.

A somewhat quite few turns, with the exception of China where my bombers have been busy pounding a Jap unit that is trying to clear the LOC around Yennen (S?), but this will not last as I am unable to support such intensive bomber ops with the current supply situation in China.

I have a feeling that Luskan has cleared out of the Aleutians, much to my frustration as i have been spending a great deal of effort gathering troops and equipment to eject them.[:@]

You two are still testers...Any word on whether or not these physically unworkable monster ASW TFs will either be reined in to a believable size or not? Maybe a diminishing number of escorts which can attack based on type of TF or something? House rules are fine to a point but they don't work when faster TFs with large escorts pass over multiple hexes and if subs are in them it becomes a shooting gallery with the subs the victims.

Raverdave -> RE: Never give a sucker an even break. (2/4/2005 4:09:04 PM)

I have not been a tester since the game was released, and Luskan has not been a tester since 1.4 IIRC.

Luskan -> RE: Never give a sucker an even break. (2/5/2005 3:49:30 AM)

Well I handed in my resignation (didn't have time) in december, but Kid hasn't booted me off the dev forums yet so I "lurk" now and then.

Xargun is the new testing machine in the team.

Raver's pulled a fast one in china. He stuffed a whole bunch of annoyance units into every empty railway hex along the front - and then had 45 units roll up the road to Sian.

Fortuantely I spotted them two hexes out (recon thank god) and Raver sent in his interference forces two hexes early. I've booted them all off the railway this turn, and I've done a bit of a shuffle. My reserve army divisions (6 divisions sitting behind the front lines waiting for a chance to pounce/reinforce) are too far away, so they're racing to the part of the front nearest them (can't disclose the location) and the units that were there are moving to the next base up the chain and so on all the way up to Sian.

Raver's 40 unit strong chinese jugguernaut is 1 hex from Sian now, and I'm building forts like mad and racing to get troops there in time. With unerring precision, Raver has pinpointed the weakest spot in my line (by FAR) and ignored the places closer to Canton that i WANTED him to attack. Now it is a mad race/scramble to see who gets to Sian first.

Probably Raver.
