Raverdave -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/7/2005 3:14:29 PM)

I would have thought that a light saber would have sliced through ST armour like a hot knife in butter.[:D]

Terminus -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/7/2005 3:15:17 PM)

My thoughts exactly, but where would a lowly stormtrooper get a lightsaber from?

Raverdave -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/7/2005 3:20:41 PM)

Well when you have cocked up as royally as "our" ST has (AKA banananana boy) I would imagine that there would be a line of wannabes ready and willing to pass the said light saber to our disgraced hero.[;)]

Terminus -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/7/2005 3:21:47 PM)

Or pass it through him, as the case may be.

51st Highland Div -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/7/2005 4:18:53 PM)

Nah he heard the term "fall on your sword" and tried to fall over it without success...[:'(]

Terminus -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/7/2005 7:44:07 PM)

Has to suck when you can't even stick a sword in your own gut without messing it up...

Luskan -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/9/2005 12:43:47 PM)

If you hadn't figured it out, the the Emperor is giving the rebel alliance a little leeway before he sends darth in to clean them up.

Problems with email. ISPs suck.

Turn tonight when i get home though.

51st Highland Div -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/9/2005 3:49:54 PM)

Lmao look what happened to Darth Vader and the Death Star......:-)

Raverdave -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/11/2005 3:33:00 AM)

Yup....I am now looking for a vent-hole on the KB death star, once I find that Luskan is stuffed.[:D]

51st Highland Div -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/11/2005 3:37:06 AM)

He's probably making another Death Star..sorry KB in Japanese Home waters [:D]

Luskan -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/11/2005 12:10:12 PM)

Ahhh yes, Raver returns to Rangoon.

Pay attention jap fanboys! Once you cull the AVG properly, the quality of pilots NEVER returns. I lost a lot of planes on the ground, but the airfield still works, I've still got loads of supply at Rangoon, and my pilots are only getting better.

I lost 15 planes in the air, over my own base so maybe 12 pilots. The other 90 odd pilots killed and killed. Once pilot hit 18 kills, another dozen got 3 and 4 kills this turn alone. Was a very long turn waiting for all those messages.

On the down side, I tested the defences around Flores and found out Raver does escort his APs. Pity.

Raverdave -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/11/2005 3:56:34 PM)

Oh the horror, the horror, the horror.[:(]

Tried to close Rangoon down and once again I lost the air battle. Luskan is just to damn strong and everytime I try I get my head handed to me on a plate. Just to give you an idea as to how bad the battle was, I had one of my B-25 BGs morale drop from 90 to 53 in a SINGLE DAY.[X(]

The only upside is the fact that I sank a jap CA and DD.

Well, there's always naval bombardment. (If Luskan hasn't mined the place.)

make sure the weather forecast is bad otherwise you will have betties swarm the place sinking your ships quicker then you can say "torpedo in the water"

Luskan -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/13/2005 12:17:04 PM)

never send jap level bombers against land targets. They don't do enough damage, get enough experience, and attrite, when you should be saving them to hurl them into suicide attacks at allied BBs.

Raver's too smart for that however - he knows the RN BBs don't have the kind of AAA that the us BBs have - so he's careful with them. Late in the game before he brings them to play.

I was thinking more along the lines of the British 12-gun CL's. Reasonable AAA, size and speed to evade torpedoes, enough armor to limit damage from strafing or small bombs. Not enough firepower to shut down the airfield by themselves, of course, but it would allow the Allied air groups some rest and recoup time.

Raverdave -> RE: Ships vs. airfields (9/16/2005 2:41:17 PM)

Ok time to put a stop to this talk about me using ships to bombard Rangoon.....IT AIN"T HAPPENING PERIOD !

Luskan would first cut me up with his LRBs then I would have to get past the HUGE minefields, then I would have to tackle some 4 to 6 jap BBs (plus the usual hangers-on the tend to gather with BBs) then I would have to contend with a duel against the shore batteries then cop another pounding buy his Betties on the way home. Sorry but I've got better things to do with my British Steel.

51st Highland Div -> RE: Ships vs. airfields (9/16/2005 2:42:41 PM)

Exactly, why attack where he expects it ?

Oliver Heindorf -> RE: Ships vs. airfields (9/16/2005 6:18:50 PM)

would be even better if ol' banananana boy would drop off another turn or two [:D] I just have started to sink some ships of his fleet [;)] [:)]

51st Highland Div -> RE: Ships vs. airfields (9/17/2005 4:09:09 PM)

What do you guys do re ship refits..do you keep an eye on them and rotate them for refitting when possible..or just wait till they get damaged ?

Luskan -> RE: Ships vs. airfields (9/18/2005 5:58:47 AM)

Actually I do a rotation. I have some VERY large repair harbours, into which is send only capitol ships, and I have some smaller repair harbours which repair DDs and smaller.

E.g. Singapore is the major repair base, but i've got batavia and Soerbaja doing smaller ships as well. Same at Hong Kong and Japan.

Lately I've been the one holding up play lately - but this time I'm waiting on Raver for a turn ;)

Raver won't bombard Rangoon - too many shore batteries and mines. I think he is thinking of bombing the airpfield shut and then bypassing. He would have to consolidate his bomber dorces a bit to do so, but he could probably do it.

Must admit, I'm at a loss for my next strategic move. Raver stole the initiative, fumbled it and lost it when we had the Battle of Wake Island, and now it seems to be kind of stagnant. The reasonable, rational part of my mind is screaming at me to pull back, dig in, mine some more, keep my Army reserve units ready to go etc. This is the part of my brain at has done the best work while playing these games.

Unfortunately it would surrender the initiative, and of course, be predictable. What I need is a target for an amphibious op. Something that will force him to home out and fight - but not something on the front line (yes - I know you're thinking Akyab). But lets examine Akyab. No decent roads in or out. So the only way to move stuff in or out is by ship. Bad idea that close to india. As jap player you either take it early, fortify it and leave a garrison, or don't take it at all.

Luskan -> Me Vs my ISP (9/21/2005 4:11:53 PM)

Will be moving 28th October or so - will slow turns down.

The good news is that this is an excellent chance to change ISPs. My conversation with Iprimus yesterday was: 45 minutes of hold music that made me feel like capping someone. Then:

Me: Is ADSL enabled in my new place?

Iprimus: What is your new phone number?

Me: I don't have one yet - haven't settled on the place/moved in/paid for a phone line etc. I have the new address, metro sydney so you can work out the exchange it goes through.

Iprimus: Can't tell you if the phone exchange is enabled without a phone number. (We then repeat this about 6 times).

Me: *exasperated* You want me to pay $120 to bring my ADSL account with me from my current address to my new address, but you can't tell me if ADSL is possible at the new address (therefore a waste of money?). All you need to do is check the exchange to see if it is ADSL enabled. *Then in my emotive state I made a tactical error* Besides - how can I give you a number to check if I don't have one yet?!

Iprimus: Let me put you through to our sales department - they can set you up with an Iprimus landline and account . . .

*sigh*

The only reason I haven't dumped these assholes is the fear that the other assholes might be worse (or the same).

aaaaarrrghhhhh ! [;)]

Good news : Paul van Dyk has released a new Album to divert me away from Witp [:)]

LOL about the phone with your ISP, it reminds me of my story with Deutsche Telekom from 2000-2001. Never ever in my live I will have them again I swear.

ISP != Phone provider. Find a better ISP here http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/

For as little (this is in Oz, which has outragous internet prices mind you) as 60$ you can get 512kbs with NO cap.

Oliver Heindorf -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/22/2005 8:44:01 PM)

I think ADSL companys are all the same world wide. mine is hansenet they should be renamed drunken hunkeymonkey...

my ISP is my domain host as well, I tried to tranfer my domain but these damm assholes are as blind as a squirrel with a .22 bullet already in the head ...

Luskan -> RE: Home Islands bombed ! (9/29/2005 3:09:16 PM)

This highlights the important of experience in fighter pilots

After this turn my good pilots - they're all back home in rangoon drinking saki - lost 1 of them.
My crap-ass squadron of zeros and my useless bunch of tony pilots (worst two fighter squadrons I had - thought basing them in with kick ass vets would help) are half dead.

Raver's AVG is gutted - yet again. However in a smart move he is basically trying to force me to make a decision between loosing troops on the ground, or diffusing the uber fighter base I have at Rangoon.

I assume you have FOW ON ? I doubt that Raver has lost 50 planes in a single battle. In my game with Xargun, jap pilots claimed for example 9 planes shot down and there was actually only one plane lost so far...amazing to see the allies assemble sooooooooooo many planes in one strike in early 43 [8D] [;)]

Stuffedlogon -> RE: Ships vs. airfields (9/30/2005 1:41:42 PM)

I tend to keep an eye on them and port them usually on the west coast......I keep Pearl free for emergency repairs.

Errrrr....actually I DID loose 50 AVG planes, AND fifty pilots to boot[X(] Time and time again I have tried to close or at least inflict some heavy damage at Rangoon but each time Luskan's uber Zeros have a field day. This time it is the last straw. I am either going to have to bring in some real fighters or concede the air battle to Luskan[X(].
In the mean time I am bombing other targets ( My bomber force is still in good nick in Burma/India) such as Mandalay just to keep banana boy on his toes.

I am slowly making my way up through the DEI under cover of fighters and bombers and Luskan is yet to respond. He seems content to bend over and take it and offers little resistance[8D]. At this rate I'll have all of Java by mid '44........cool.[8D]

Raverdave waiting for his logon to be fixed.
