BryanMelvin -> 8.2 oobs - Your Legacy (6/20/2004 1:45:16 AM)

Thank you all for your support!!

I know that much is being said about the 8.2 oobs both bad and good. All I'll say for the moment is that much of what you the gamers wanted was added into the game oobs. What many did not like about 8.0-1 oobs was returned to 7.1 data as well as much more was improved.

The changes were all from you [:)]

One vast improvement is in the area of Long Campaigns, Battle Campaigns, and Campaign Generated games verses the computer AI. You'll now have the ability to play against varied AI unit force picks. You also will have the ability to make changes to these oob AI formations if you like or leave as they are - whichever you prefer.

I would also like to remind you all of the one restriction we worked under. The purposes of the oobs were to remain compatible with all spwaw scenarios and campaigns made using 7.0 - 8.1 oobs. This was no easy task. Though far easier to do, changing things into a new oob set would have destroyed much labor.

Unfortunately, many scenarios and campaigns made using 5.0 to 6.0 oobs will have problems with 8.2. This could not be helped as these oob were made at a far earlier time.

Lastly, with all the items David Heath wrote about in other threads concerning H2H and other items as well as the 8.2 oobs. You, the gamers will have the ability to use and design your own oobs to your hearts desire.

The goal of all this labor is to leave the game in your capable hands. Matrix will have an official set of 8.2 oobs that you can use or disregard at your discretion.

The official oobs were designed for pbem play as well as verses computer play. You can modify these if you like, or leave as they are, to play against human or computer. This is a gift to all of you who play and enjoy this game and our legacy to you all.

Enjoy many new hours playing this classic game!!!

Care to elaborate on how PBEM was considered? The rumor is that unit point cost is 'rarity-based' in v8.2. This is not PBEM friendly to my way of thinking, but I'm certainly open to arguments for this method. Or, preferably, to be told this is not the case.

Do tell Bryan. Please.

David Heath -> RE: 8.2 oobs - Your Legacy (6/20/2004 9:17:36 AM)

Lets not start a possible heated thread until we have this version done and out the door. Once there out post all you want about them good or bad.

Thanks

David

Much appreciated Bryan[&o]

The fact you folks were able to keep OOB's a consideration clear back to 7.1 is excellent and should appease M4Jess(one of my favorite designers)........
Some of the new "chrome" you have reported to be in the new version is nothing short of remarkable......Thank you......[:)]

Now you're just getting plain boring. I agree with your concerns, but do we need to hear them on every thread?

No, thank YOU. Many people don't realize the amount of personal time and effort that goes into OOB's, scenarios, or campaigns - just so we have a better product for all to enjoy. We owe you, and all the others, a grateful THANKS!

I am very much appreciative of all your work.

My only concern is how compatible 8.2 will be with megas made before 7.1. Happily this is easily rectified with the new mod swapper. Since megas are paid for products, will MG be coming out with some sort of oob pack to insert into the MS for mcna etc?

Voriax -> RE: 8.2 oobs - Your Legacy (6/20/2004 8:19:23 PM)

I wouldn't be that concerned about mega compatibility. They are *very* compatible even with 8.01 (mcse done with 8.0) and as Bryan said they tried to keep it so that 7.0+ scenarios and camps aren't that influenced.
But, we'll see soon

I agree....Thank you all...all who are involved in making and upkeeping this game we all enjoy...
Take care,

Majority of units cost were returned to 7.1 levels. Some remain the same.

As for spwaw 8.2 PBEM games, it is best to use Rarity perference ON as this feature was fixed in the mech exe for PBEM games and SPWAW computer/Human games.

There are way to many changes to post in detail here.

Truely - Rare - units cost remain as they were.

Also, Matrix games updated the Mech.exe and fixed the Rarity bug, fixed the Long Campaign Map and weather bug, fixed memory leaks and a few other things.

Perference setting -Rarity ON- works now so this may appear as a new feature. Still, you can use setting set to off and choose any units you like too for pbem.

As for cost, which units do you specifically refer too? Let me know co I can answer more clearly.

Yes, I forgot to add that ol' M4 will love those Shermans even more [;)]

All the MC's have played OK for me with v8.1, and I was particularly watching Desert Fox (made well before v7.1). No problems so far.

Excellent news! Thanks for giving me an answer, finally.

My main concern was the relatively useless US 57mm recoiless rifle that cost about as much as a German 88 because "the RR was rare." Having those two units cost the same would really mess with the head of a newbie who would, rightfully, assume that they would be comparable in effectiveness if they cost the same. He would be left entirely confused about figuring out effectiveness if the main thing that people use to buy units (i.e. point value) had no relation to the usefullness of the units purchased. This sort of pricing would severely reduce the number of newbies that 'graduated' to PBEM.

Thanks again for the response!
