ardilla -> RE: Any update on release date? (6/24/2004 11:17:06 AM)

Now 2, waiting for the digital download.

Cross my fingers.

eg0master -> RE: Any update on release date? (6/24/2004 2:13:21 PM)

I think matrix has made it quite clear they do not want to tell us any release date as long as the release date is to far in the future.

But since this thread was started I repeat myself (lucky 3rd time):

How long before the release can we expect to know the release date?
That would at least give is an idea of how far in the future we're talking at least...

carnifex -> RE: Any update on release date? (6/24/2004 9:32:42 PM)

After consulting my Crystal Ballsack, I predict game will go gold on August 15th.

How about now? [:D]

pfnognoff -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/2/2004 11:20:08 PM)

Come on people! WiTP is out! I'll be getting that this or the next week if I can hold my nerve until then (I have some things to finish up before I start my gaming in the Pacific)
I just can't imagine how my spare free time or my budget would cope with WiTP and EiA being released at the same time! [:D][:D][:D]

So I say: Don't release EiA yet!!!

P.S. Speaking about budget, do you have any info about the price range for EiA?

Pippin -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/3/2004 10:04:29 PM)

Do not worry. After getting raped and gutted a few times in a row, you will curse the day you ever installed EIA, and move on to something else for a while :P

Human nature seems to win out in the end...

OK, so now we have two players for our first game [8D] We need five more, and start the bidding...

P.S. Will you be getting WiTP also? We are all human after all. [:D][:D]

sol_invictus -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/5/2004 3:06:34 AM)

Here's another one. Never played the boardgame but Napoleonic Era is my favorite period of military history. I think I would enjoy any nation; well maybe not Prussia or Austria. Let's just agree to give me Russia.[:D]

siriain -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/5/2004 3:15:19 PM)

Me too please. I own the boardgame but have never played. I would be willing to play the Ottomans or whoever,[sm=00000924.gif] of the non critical countries.

ardilla -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/5/2004 5:30:13 PM)

I would mind to play any country, but I always feel more identified with Spain...wonder why...[;)]

I hope MG had made an easy e-mail system to bid.

fjbn -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/5/2004 7:57:17 PM)

You can count with me for a game. I'm spamnish but I don't mind the country, maybe Austria or Prussia. They are both very interesting facing Napo.[;)]

yammahoper -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/5/2004 8:38:41 PM)

I have played Spain twice. VERY frustrating nation. Conflicts arise with GB, FR and TU as you try to gain minors in Africa and Italy. Still, actually rolling up in FR back door is very thrilling. It is the 3.0 morale cav I always disliked.

A spanish/Turkish war is great fun. Without ally funding it is a slow and torturous campaign as neither nation can afford large foraging losses, and the morales are very close for both nations corps. The last war I fought against the Turk lasted almost 30 months (I was a British ally, the Turk a French ally). The impact of our war in Europe was surprising because of the cash drain on France and Austria not having to worry about the Turk invading, allowing the Austrain to bring all of his corps into Western Europe.

One of the reasons EiA is a great game because it never plays the same. I hope the games AI maintains that advantage.

Last I heard there was not going to be a bid system, at least for the initial release. We'll have to sort out something among ourselves.

fjbn -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/5/2004 9:05:21 PM)

Yes, the cavalry and its 3.0 morale is very frustating, but Spain has its point. First, if you are GB ally, you can count with a very interesting trade bonus, because you have many ports. Second. You have a large fleet, and GB will pay a lot of money to be an ally, because Spain on the French side can balance sea war.Third. Spain is, because of guerrilla, a difficult country to invade, much more difficult than Prussia or Austria, so France's menaces are not very dangerous. Fourth and last. If you focus on your national interest, I mean, the ones that makes you a dominant power, you are not getting into the real war, but Italy, and maybe you will get it.It's easier for spain to became a dominant power than Prussia or Austria, because they need Confederation of the Rhine.

Is this true? WIERD!!!!

That will be just silly! MG has to put in a bid system for this game to work, otherwise, there will be too much BS.

Isn't this a bit harsch? MG has to put in a bid system for this game to work seams much sillier to me... I can think of at least 4 other ways to solve this...

1) When requesting players (at a opponetns request forum for example) each new player selects whatever country is available.
2) All players trust the person setting up the game and sends their bids to him.
3) If you're playing with RL friends, meet up and solve the bid RL...
4) Create a simple BID system as a webpage and use it that way.

Since it all comes down to one person setting the game up (if I understand correctly) the problem is simple to solve without building in a bid system into the game.

ardilla -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/6/2004 5:20:28 PM)

I dont think is that bad Spain.

Yes, we have a ****ty cavalery, wonder why...we didnt have much but it was not that bad....IMO.

I find Spain very funny and exciting, since nobody wants to push you to the other side (FR and GB), the manly 2 major powers at war with, besides Turky at the begining at least.

So you can play kind of neutrality till you get under control serveral states (north africa, some in Italy, maybe Portugal...)

I dont think GB or FR are going to mess with you at the very begining and neither Turky, because everybody is busy conquering minors.

GB wants Spain as ally because of his amount of ships to avoid join France and high trading values, of course as being french neighbourg is very solid place to attack France from.

FR wants Spain as ally because of his amount of ships to attack the british and because there is nothing of profit attacking Spain and much money to spend.

So I think you should play with this neutrality as long as you can while you are building your kingdom.

Turky is a danger, but usually after 1807, not before.
He has the same problems as Spain, he can only be good besides france or british, so usually is the other country that is not with spain.

Austria, Prussia and Russia have nothing to do against Spain, so are valuable allies to get money and help from them when needed, of course as FR or GB, who ever is your "protector".

A war between TU-SP is usually a benefit for the brit, taking control of north africa and the good thing will be that TU-SP were allies against the brit in the mediterranean, so they can reach an agreement for the minors and dont let the brit have anything else besides malta and gibraltar.

In my game rigth now I am Spain and is not bad, well, not good in VP (7-8) but I have Portugal, Kingdom of 2 Sicilies, Tuscany and i am fighting the brit for Morocco (was mine) and Algeria (was mine too), now both under besige.

Regards

eg0master -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/6/2004 5:27:03 PM)

I agree to the "france is not the only fun nation" praise...
In "my" group we have:
One person always wanna be turkey.
one or two trying to be france and one or two trying to be russia.
usually 3 guys gang up before nations are decided and try to create a strong austria, prussia, britton alliance. maybe a 4th guy in for spain. So almost all countries can be decided by mutual consent.

NeverMan -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/6/2004 7:18:48 PM)

Never said France is the only "fun" nation to play. That is why I used the word example. Did anyone notice this word in my post?

But, What If this happens?

EDIT: Sorry, I posted that example in another thread: "alternatives to bidding" or something like that. I do believe that the bidding system has to be in place.

eg0master -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/6/2004 9:08:05 PM)

Ofcourse "everybody" wants to play france was/is only an example. The same way "my" group is an example of a more dynamic group.

but I still think bidding wopuld only be a nice feature/option since you can set the game up perfectly fine anyway... [;)]

fjbn -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/6/2004 9:47:02 PM)

I´ve seen in the forum that the garrisons and depot format have changed. What does it mean?, because it seems that it will take too long to release the game. I hope the changes mean that they are only accepting players suggestions and the designers keep clear ideas.

You honestly think we would allow MG to get away with releasing EIA without some kind of a bidding mechanism?

Easy answer. Get a 3rd party in this forum to accept the bids. I'd be happy to do that if no bid system is available. Do I want it - YES. Can I wait if it will delay anything - NO

NO, but it was mentioned earlier in this thread, or in another, that there wasn't going to be a bidding system, at least according to Yohan's post in this thread. Also, I believe that I read that somewhere else too, but I hope I was having hallucinations.

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/7/2004 5:54:15 AM)

Hey guys:

It is true that we do not have a bidding system in the initial release. Sorry for the info BUT never-the-less the truth is that we don't have the time to put it in right now. We may look at adding it in an update BUT in the interest of time, roll some dice :-) until/if we add it!

Please understand that we've got 24 months into this project and introducing more delays is not advised! We've got to finish this thing!

Thank you

pfnognoff -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/7/2004 8:39:40 AM)

Marshal:

Can you in that case give us any info on how many points you need to win playing certain Major powers? Also, I would suggest you raise initial values need from the original accordingly to reflect there would be no bidding.

I hope the bidding makes it into version 1.1 patch, it sure is an integral part of EiA...

ardilla -> RE: Any update on release date? (7/7/2004 2:11:35 PM)

OK, thanks Marshall for beeing so honest.

We can live with it till the bidding system in the first patch if it is not too much asking.

As someone asked you, the VP are a base that has to be completed with the bid.

If no bids are use, 99% of the times FR or GB will win, in this order IMO.

I understand that MG wants to finish it and start selling and I will buy the game ASAP.
I really think that IT IS A MUST for PLAYABLE pbem game a bidding system.

Maybe they can add a feature to introduce manually the biddings at the begining if it is not too much asking, so we can do the bidding by ourselfs and add them to the final VPs needed for each country.

Another question I didnt read anything and I think is important is about the movement order.

I think FR and GB should inform everybody before moving WHEN are going to move.
So the countries order and garrisons in cities and depots (BTW, I love the new depots, like in the original game graphics Marshall, thanks!) SHOULD ALWAYS be visible in the screen.

Thanks you again for your effort Marshall and time with us.
