Splinterhead -> Fatal error 772 (6/26/2004 8:39:05 PM)

I have tried running WITP on two different computers now and have gotten 772 fatal errors on both machines. Also when I tried to register the game I got the message " cannot register key". [:(]

Mr.Frag -> RE: Fatal error 772 (6/26/2004 9:01:40 PM)

A bit of detail would be helpful.

What operating system? Hardware configuration?

Sonny -> RE: Fatal error 772 (6/26/2004 9:05:11 PM)

Got a CTD before the end of a turn in each of the 8 tries so far.

Dell XPS system Windows XP/PRO.

That error is related to verification of the serial number.

Please drop an email to support@matrixgames.com. Please send us also the key you received upon purchase. Thanks

Sonny, find where you installed the code.

Look for the sound directory and rename it to oldsound instead.

This will completely eliminate sound. See if that makes the problem go away.

We don't have the code yet so just blind troubleshooting ...

Hi please make sure your sound drivers are updated to the latest version. Also please send an email to support@matrixgames.com, attach a DirectX dialog file please.

Yeah, that seems to be it. Game seems to go fine without the sound.

Thanks.

Please update your sound drivers and follow Marc's How-To on direct-x troubleshooting.

Also, if you know what type of sound card you have inside the Dell, post it's info so others with the same card will know that they too will have a problem possibly.

Kadota -> RE: Fatal error 772 (6/26/2004 10:51:27 PM)

I get that error message on my old clunker that has Windows98SE and an old Creative SB Live!. I installed an update but it says the driver is still dated 1999. I plan on running the game on my laptop anyway and using my clunker to read the PDF's while I play.

Dukemourn -> RE: Fatal error 772 (6/27/2004 8:17:39 AM)

I got the same fatal error 772 on my 98SE machine.....runs fine on my XP machine.

Sound? We had sound in Beta? Hmmm, must have downloaded the wrong build... [:)]

Did we leave out the note that said copy over your sound directory from your UV directory in the build instructions again? [:D]

It is a Sound Blaster Audigy Audio. Tried to update the driver but ran into problems. If anyone has the same sound card and has successfully updated the driver let me know how you did it.

Hmm, I've got a Audigy/2 here, works like a charm. Are you using the drivers from Creative or the ones built into XP?

It says it is ctaud2k.sys 3/26/03.
I tried the download at Dell for my card and it says it corrects the "Welcome screen". When I run it it does not update the driver - at least accordint to DxDiag. Then when I boot my system I get the message: Ordinal 1865 could not be located in IML32.dll.

EDIT: got the latest driver (2/23/04) and still have the problem.[:@]

Mr.Frag -> RE: Fatal error 772 (6/28/2004 1:41:23 PM)

Hmm ...

See the slider here within DXDIAG? Slide it to the left to Basic or Off and see if it helps. I'm wondering about your driver version though.

Tried that and it gave me funny sounds and still crashed anyway.
Though I can't remember if I tried it with the old driver or the new one. I'll check it out when I get home.

Thanks for the help. I'll get it straightened out eventually.

Iron Duke -> RE: Fatal error 772 (6/28/2004 3:30:29 PM)

Hi Sonny,

I've just updated my Audigy driver, using the auto driver function on the creative web site and the driver I have installed is version 5.12.0001.0441 dated 8/10/2003 which looks later than yours ?

2Stepper -> RE: Fatal error 772 (6/28/2004 3:42:21 PM)

One thing of interest too, and this might be a reach is motherboard... There's a few types that have REAL problems with the older Audigy 1 soundcards. Realtek Motherboards from MSI are one of them. I have an Athlon board from them and had to upgrade my old Audigy 1 to a 2. Works now but would have been really troublesome had I kept my older Audigy 1...

I admit, it's a reach, but it might be compatibility at that level too that's causing problems.

I got the 2/23/04 driver and still have the problem. I'll look at DX next.

Marc von Martial -> RE: Fatal error 772 (7/1/2004 1:25:32 PM)

"772" error problem on WinME and Win98 is located. We will have a fix for the few customers (not all WinMe and Win98 systems suffer from this) facing this soon. The download version to be released later this week will not have this problem anymore.

Splinterhead -> RE: Fatal error 772 (7/1/2004 3:07:50 PM)

Thank You.[:)]

Duderonomy -> RE: Fatal error 772 (7/2/2004 1:55:50 AM)

I just completed the DD and install, which seemed to go smoothly. Unfortunately I am getting the Fatal Error 772 message on the loading screen. I tried turning down sound hardware acceleration, and renaming the sound folder, to no avail.

Windows ME
Atlhon 1.1 ghz
256mb RAM
Geforce2 64mb
SBLive!
DirectX 9.0b

Based on the preceeding messages concerning this problem I was under the impression it would be fixed in the DD version. Any help/fix would be greatly appreciated!

stinger5050 -> RE: Fatal error 772 (7/2/2004 2:21:21 AM)

the same problem here

benway9 -> RE: Fatal error 772 (7/2/2004 2:23:17 AM)

same here: fatal error 772

Erik Rutins -> RE: Fatal error 772 (7/2/2004 2:24:13 AM)

Guys,

The fix we implemented fixed it on the computer we had here that could duplicate it. We spoke with the installer/serial number vendor and they concurred. When it appeared fixed, we went with the release. Obviously, there are still some instances where the fix was not good enough. This is extremely dissappointing for us, just as it is for you. We're working on a fix now, if we can't find the exact cause we're pretty sure of a "brute force" approach that we can have online later tonight (hopefully) without going back to the installer folks.

Regards,

- Erik

Duderonomy -> RE: Fatal error 772 (7/2/2004 2:27:14 AM)

Thanks for the prompt response. I guess I'll play Starshatter for a bit and check back later [:D]

stinger5050 -> RE: Fatal error 772 (7/2/2004 2:34:01 AM)

Thank You, its great to know that you trying to work on it. I know you will come threw in a timely manner with a fix.

daump -> RE: Fatal error 772 (7/2/2004 3:45:05 AM)

Just fininshed download on a W98SE and still getting Fatal Error 772, will try to disable sound next.

seydlitz_slith -> RE: Fatal error 772 (7/2/2004 5:39:10 AM)

I have the same problem as the others on this thread. 772 error.

I just emailed support my DXDIAG files. My system passed all tests.
Reenaming the sound directory also did nothing.

I am running WinME
1.0 gig Athalon with 512Mb memory
Nvidia GeForce 3 Ti4200 video
Hercules Fortissimo II soundcard
DX 9.0b

Hopefully your fix, brute force or otherwise, will be able to get me playing for the weekend.
Thx,
Don
