Xargun -> December 14 (7/3/2004 9:45:24 AM)

Well the war is going good so far - despite my naval losses near Wake. The Dutch subs are still catching my ships and putting torps into them - but luckily nothing went down today. My subs are doing their usual crappy job... I-7 had the nearly crippled BB Nevada pass right past her and she missed... My subs are now 0 for 13 - they are worthless - maybe I should stop production on more subs and save the construction points for something useful - like merchant ships....

I finally got a good air attack on Singapore, putting a crimp on Rob's air force there. He put in a sneak air raid on Saigon's ports, putting two bombs into the BB Kongo which was in port from some earlier damage. She is hurt enough to send to a repair yard now.

In China I have taken my first 2 bases: Ichang and Yenen - both with Rob left undefended for me.. Not sure why as they have resources, but I'm not complaining.

In the SRA, I took Jolo (between PI and Borneo). It has a nice airfield and it will give me air command over most of the SRA once its up and running... My baby CV TF roaming around south of PI has bagged a lot of ships so far - far more than the KB has. So for all you Japan wannabes - hook up your baby carriers and cruise around there for easy kills... Just don't get to close to land base planes or you might get smacked... Luckily I haven't yet and I'm pulling back to rearm and resupply before my luck runs out.

rroberson -> RE: December 14 (7/4/2004 12:32:01 AM)

America's first fighter ace!!!

AP Manilla is reporting that 1st Lt. J. H. Moore of Austin, Texas is the first fighter ace of the war for the allies. Lt. Moore got his 5th kill on a Japanese heavy bomber over manilla this morning. The P-40 pilot is part of the air defense over the Philippines.

Chinese troops crush Japanese at Homan.

33- thousand Chinese troops attacked and drove off invading imperial hordes at Homan this morning. After two days of artillary duels the Chinese surged forward in what is to be the first of many offenses on the Chinese mainland. The commanding general was heard to mutter, "After 4 years of retreating, now we go on the offensive to drive this sons of comfort women back to their pathetic little island."

The BBC is reporting that

In the Mediterranean... The Italian battleship Vittorio Venito, part of a convoy to Benghazi is sunk. Italians turn convoy back.

In the North Atlantic... Convoy HG-76 containing 32 ships sails from Gibraltar for Britain. Its escort is commanded by Commander Walker and his force includes the escort carrier Audacity and twelve other ships.

This photo was taken outside of Homan as Japanese troops flee the battlefield

Japanese troops fleeing in china???? Xargun! What are you doing??!!? [X(]
Get 6 divisions, march them into Homan after a few days prep and set them to "follow" (not set all to march), and then kick some butt! This is NOT the way to triumph, glory and concubines! [:-]

*Luskan now returns to impartial mode*

I was going to say the same thing Raver. China is pretty weak at the start and can't mount an effective defense in or near their starting positions.

Onime No Kyo -> RE: December 14 (7/4/2004 10:24:31 PM)

I managed to retake Naning and Pakhoi against the AI. Is this normal?

By follow do you mean pursue ? Or just to follow one unit ?

As for what happened, the Colonel in charge has been ordered to commit seppuku (if the coward hasn't already) and my units were fairly fatigued. I have like 2 divisions worth of troops sitting there with more on the way. I couldn't believe they retreated..

I have taken 2 Chinese bases Ichang & Yenen, and have several chines units cutoff and trapped at Nanning (I think)..

Xargun -> December 16 (7/5/2004 9:40:58 AM)

Well another slow day here in the war against western imperialism. Dutch subs are putting torpedoes into my merchant ships, but luckily not sinking them... Those damn Dutch should be out of torps by now and have a long way to reload as I have sunk 1 Allied AS and hurt another in the area. The great American subs tried to make their first kill, but their crappy technology failed to detonate !!!! My ships depth charged the hell out of several enemy subs but have nothing to show for their attempts. But we will get them..

I hit Wake with another bombardment fleet at night and caught Rob trying to lay a minefield for me. I blew his ML out of the water as it attempted to retreat. The KB also did a fly-by and dropped some bombs on Wake just to say hi.. For some reason my Zero pilots were on vacation as they didn't fly escort and the bombers lost a few to American fighters on Wake.

I noticed that Rob has massed a bunch of transports and cargo ships at Singapore so he is either hauling away valuables (resources, supplies, or troops) or bringing more in to hold the base longer. Either way it won't help him, as I have released several reserve divisions to help in the Drive on Singapore - just a matter of time now...

Luskan or anyone else,

What is the advantage to moving troops with the "follow" command? Doesnt that just make one unit get there before the rest to get its butt kicked?

If you set it right - then all the units will follow whatever unit you pick. Usually you set you units to follow the slowest unit - that way the entire group arrives are one big army, instead of piecemeal.

Xargun

Onime No Kyo -> RE: December 16 (7/5/2004 10:55:03 AM)

OK, right....and if you just tell them all to march they each go at their own speed and some arrive befor the rest. That makes so much sence. DOH <slaps forehead>[:D]

freeboy -> RE: December 16 (7/5/2004 11:59:24 AM)

I wonder if piecemeal might sometimes be better .. those quicker units can then get some rest while they wait

Onime No Kyo -> RE: December 16 (7/5/2004 12:05:47 PM)

As long as you know what youre walking onto.

freeboy -> RE: December 16 (7/5/2004 12:21:40 PM)

exactly.. good or bad depending on the situation

Mike Wood -> RE: December 16 (7/5/2004 12:59:28 PM)

cancelled.

Luskan -> RE: December 16 (7/5/2004 5:15:08 PM)

I recommend at least 1 turn before attacking anything of rest - reduces fatigue a little, and if you've brought your hqs, reducing disruption a whole lot. This fight, then rest for 1, 2 even 3 days and then deliberate attack again is by far the best strategy for taking big bases like those in china, singapore and clark where there are thousands of defenders and a big fort. If you try to shock you'll be shocked and if you try to deliberate attack turn after turn you wear yourself down faster than you do them.

This way makes it slower, but easier on your armies.

Xargun -> December 17 (7/5/2004 11:40:39 PM)

Another turn and not that much has happened.. I have captured a couple of base, including Kuching in Borneo and Changsha in China. Rob pulled out of Changsha so my massive attack was met with nothing but civilians - and us being japanese we slaughtered some anyway !!

Rob now has merchant ships at Manilla so he's either evacuating or bringing in help / supplies. Not sure either way, but I'll hit some more Allied shipping if I can.

The Allied subs are having an easy time with my ships and I can't seem to do anything about them. I had 3 separate ASW TF attack a single Allied sub and they all missed. I understand Japan is horrible at ASW, but they can't be this bad... Oh well... I just need to pull back my PGs, PCs and DDs for convoy duty I guess.

Well another day in the war and this one went a little for Japan. I sunk 2 DD, 1 AP, AK and 1 SS !!! Yeah, finally have a confirmed sub kill. My subs are still shooting some duds, but they are starting to get hits as well.

I had a good day in the skies over Singapore as my bombers put many torps into Rob's merchant ships crowding outside Singapore's harbor. Not sure what he is doing with them there, but not worried as I'm killing them pretty good - and if they try to run, they won't go fast [:D]

rroberson -> RE: December 18 (7/6/2004 4:11:34 AM)

CINCPAC has reported the sinking of an enemy submaring 250 miles west of Pearl Harbor. "Disturbing, but satisfying," Admiral Nimitz was quoted as saying. Credit for the kill was given to the crew of USS Hatfield out of San Diego.

The BBC Singapore is reporting that naval officials are as pleased as could be with the recent resupply of our brave troops fighting the Japanese at Singapore. More then 30 supply ships have docked in Singapore, offloaded and gotten away. A recent major Japanese air strike sank 2 empty transports. The Royal Navy now believes that the Japanese will step up their naval attacks to offset allied attempts at resupply Singapore. However, necessary supplies have reached the troops, this time.

Recent movement of enemy troops near Rangoon has allied officials worried. It is believed that a major battle could heat up at the British base soon.

BBC Singapore is also reporting that the Royal Rifles of Canada and the Winnipeg Grenadiers continue to fight valiantly to defend the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong. Despite being cut off without any hope of relief, the soldiers continue to hold off the Japanese invading hordes.

He resupplied at least - there are a lot of AKs there.. He could have dropped off more troops too, as I have seen (and sunk 1) AP there too, or they could be renegades from the SRA carrying whatever he felt safe loading on them - more supplies. Personally landing troops would be a mistake - especially any amount of troops that would matter - as it would make Burma alot weaker allowing me to hold him at Singapore and take half of Burma while his men starved. I bet it was just supplies and maybe some resource/oil.

I'm not worried about Singapore, it will fall, just a matter of when... Right now I have several British units trapped at Moulmein, as I control the rail north of that base - also north of Rangoon - so both bases are cutoff from supply. I basically did an end run from my base nearby (starts with an R). I also have a couple Chinese units cut off at Nanning - not sure what to do with them - kill them, or just hold them so he can't get new units.... I'll probably just kill em or drive them deep into the jungle.
