Well a few more turns have passed since our initial CV vs. CV engagement north of Midway. Day 2 nothing happened at all - it was raining in both hexes so I'm assuming neither TF launched due to rain.. Guessing that Rob would be bringing everything he had into the fight asap I decided to withdraw.. My air groups are savaged and need some new pilots / planes and both my CVs need a couple weeks in the repair shop... BUT, the best news is.... while limping back to Midway for hasty flooding repairs I assume, poor little Enterprise had a problem.... She hit this 1 ton (or so) big metal rock that went BOOOOM !!!!! I had mined Midway a few days ago with a small amount of mines just to irritate Rob (like 20 mines or less - 1 sub worth) and it paid off big time.. Enterprise probably lost her bow and she quickly went under !!!!! Now if only my subs there can find the Yorktown [:D] So.. that means the allies are down 2 CVs now for sure... I like the points [:D] Also in the past couple days I have sunk the following Allied ships: 3 DDs, 1 TK, 2 PTs, 1 AK and a PC. 2 DDs were sunk near PH from my subs - Rob is still weak in ASW around PH. The merchies were killed by aircraft, the PTs and a DD killed by a cruiser TF near Borneo and my brave sub captain sunk a PC with like 4 torps... In that same time I have lost 1 Sub and a MSW. So all in all a very good couple days for me. Singapore is about to fall - its fort is down to level 1 and should fall after a day's rest and resupply to my men. Clark Field is under attack and we're trading blows.. I'm wondering if I should Shock Attack or not ??? Rob Shocked me two days in a row at Clark costing him several thousand men - day 2 of Shock was an accident he says.. US OFFICIALS ADMIT LOSS OF CARRIER IN RARE INTERVIEW American naval officials have admited that one US Carrier was lost in the aftermath of what is now being called the Battle of Midway. The unnamed carrier was heavily damaged by Japanese warplanes and attempting to transit to the Midway Atoll to offload her airwing. Officials say that just after dawn this morning she entered the atoll area listing heavily to port (97 float) when she struck an enemy mine. US officials say they were able to get the entire air wing off the day before and the majority of the crew was rescued before the Big E sank. There was no comment from either CINCPAC or CINCATP regarding the loss of the carrier but officials in lower levels of the naval command commented that they were saddened but not worried about the loss as there were still 3 US Carrier task forces in the Pacific and the west coast remained safe from Japanese invasion. They added that Operation Burning Steel was a success believing that they heavily damaged the enemy carriers that were bearing down on Midway.

Retraction (AP Rangoon) Singapore has not fallen. Army officials report the confusion of signals coming out of the island fortress led them to believe that Singapore had fallen. Officials now say that the 28 thousand defenders continue to hold on, but caution they expect city to fall any day now.

SINGAPORE FINALLY FALLS! (AP Rangoon) 50-thousand Commonwealth troops fell into Japanese hands today when the citadel of Singapore surrendered after 68 days of siege. The British's Gibralter of the Pacific was the subject of intensive land and air bombardment for nearly 2 months. Despite that Indian, Malayan and British forces held back the Xargunite tide of death two weeks past Allied expectations. British command now feels that Japanese army units will shift their attention north to Burma and attempt to storm Rangoon. oh yes. I pulled out as many combat divisions as I could...I managed to bluff him for awhile until he started doing some heavy bombing...he will see most of those units again in burma.

A GLORIOUS day for the Empire of the Sun... GLORIOUS.... did you hear ? I'm sure everyone is repeating our glory and re-evaluating their decision to fight the glorious Japanese Empire.... Singapore has fallen !!!! Thousands of british and Indian troops surrender !!! The IJA in china has also just captured roughly 10,000 chinese soldiers over the past 2 days - wiping out 4-5 chinese units with several more surrounded and about to surrender. The naval combat was slow this turn with a few sub strikes.. I have finally hit that damn allied DD Cassin.. He sat at Midway forever and I fired 18 torps at him and he evaded all of them... Now Rob pulled him back to PH and I put two fish into him !!!! I hope he sinks... My men are enjoying some much earned R&R in the malaria-free zone of Singapore while awaiting the engineers to rebuild the place.. It is in shambles - 1 HI is working and the rest needs repaired - doubt it will happen... at least not for a LONG time... In other bad news, the repair yards are similarly wrecked - 1 out of 25 in working order.. These will be repaired LONG before the HI... Although the Brits did leave me some nice stockpiles of 50,000+ supply and 90,000+ fuel... The most important thing is I now have a size 8 port in Malaya / Asia to reload all my torps and mines at.. Soon Singapore will be upgraded to a size 9... I am loading up tons of engineers and aviation support for my new fortress, but first comes the ASW and MSW TFs... I'm sure ROb has TONS of mines in the port and probably a couple subs nearby - I saw at least 3 sub TFs there before I took it... So I will sanitise the area before moving anything heavy / important in.. My men should enjoy a few days of R&R and then Java will fall quickly and in 1 fell swoop as I plan to invade all the bases at once.... I have plenty of APs available and lots of men as well... In other areas: Rob finally succeeded in damaging some oil production of mine.. His new US bombers hit Brunei and my stupid Nates don't have the firepower to shoot down the bombers.. He damaged the oil pretty good in his first wave.. I need more and better fighters there... but all my zero groups are exhausted from escorting air raids into singapore or clark field... and the others are not fully filled out yet in japan... Hmmm... may have to transfer a CV fighter group temporarily. Rob & I have both patched up to 1.21 (I think he has as well) and BOY was I in for a shock.. I was screwing around with my orders and just happened to check my Manchukuo garrison and OOOOPPPS its too low... I'm sure it had to do with the bug that caused the APs of units to change so now I went from having over a 1000 point cushion to being below - in one turn.. I am rushing units back there, and hope they make it before the Soviets activate... I do have more good news on the submarine front. About a half dozen subs damaged in the first month of the war are just finishing repairs in Japan and should be back at the front within 10 days... This should give Rob more fits especially if I send them to his weak areas - like around PH.. Maybe I should send them on long distance mining ruins to San Fran, PH, Colombo and OZ ?? Hmmm... Colombo and OZ maybe as I have large ports nearby for resupply (Singapore and Truk) but the others make for a LONG journey... Although if I sink one ship from them it would be worth it.. Oh well I'll have to think about it. In the PI Clark Field is almost ready to fall.. My constant bombarding and air raids have weakend his units there quite a bit and it should fall within the week. Once that falls I simply need to pick Bataan or Manilla to hit next... It will probably depend which way his men retreat.. I'll stop writing now and let you guys see the report.. Well its been a few more days with not much happening.. I've been picking off the undefended PI with a small TF and some troops - bouncing from island to island. Over the past couple days I've sunk an TK and a ML and lost another Sub. Land combat in china is still going slow and I just can't get the damn chinese units to surrender - despite 70+ : 1 odds... oh well... it will happen, just slowly I guess. The good news from last turn is that the RN has finally come out to play !!!! I spotted a large Bombardment TF about 4 hexes off the coast of Moulmein and sent a half-hearted attack against it.. Reports stated a couple hits, but Rob said it was a lie - quite possibly. This turn he ran forward and bombarded Moulmein under cover of darkness and killed / wounded a bunch of men but didn't do much damage to the base (or the supplies) and I had guessed correctly and moved away all aircraft so he didn't get any kills there either. As his TF moved away a large air raid caught it... The results weren't too bad with minor losses and I sunk the CL Enterprise with 2 bomb hits - one was a magazine explosion... I put 3 torps into each of the BBs present (if reports are true) and missed everything else. If the torps damaged the ships enough to give me another go at them I should be able to finish them off next turn - with a little luck. Otherwise they will need some yard time anyways... Not much else is going on, although in a few turns I will launch Operation Polar Hammer finally... It took a long time to get the right units in place and I had to wait a while for more fuel, since a damn Dutch sub sunk the tanker providing support... The opening stages of the operation should take place in 1 -2 days, with it concluding within a week. Not sure if Rob has spotted it yet, but I'm sure he could have by now so we will see.. The advantage is that he doesn't have enough force to stop it without having like 75% of his warships in the region - even his 2 remaining CVs aren't enough to stop it... The attack will kill some allied planes (bonus) and some land units (bonus) but provide me with an excellent place to further my attacks.. I'll say more in another turn or two once it starts in case he hasn't spotted it yet.. Its possible, he didn't spot the last raid.. Well here it is... enjoy !!!! (AP) Washington The War Department is reporting that Flight Officer Browning of the AVG currently stationed somewhere in Asia will be withdrawn from the region after being wounded in combat. Browning a triple ace with 16 confirmed kills was wounded while flying air cover over British Naval forces during a recent operation. Flight Officer Browning's 16 kills of enemy aircraft easily outdistances the next highest ace who has just 6 kills. Once Browning recovers from his injuries the Silver Star winner will be reassigned to Eglin Air Base where he will become a flight instructor for new pilots entering the service. Commander of Allied Forces South Pacific is reporting at least 2 enemy task forces sighted north of a small south Pacific Island known as Guadalcanal. Enemy carrier planes attacked and demolished a neutral merchant shipping fleet anchored off the coast of the Pacific island killing several civilians and destroying supplies bound for the natives there. Battle for Guadalcanal ? Is that what its being called now :) And I thought it was Operation Polar Hammer... Hmmm. Last turn a few of my CVs got into range and spotted a small resupply TF at Guadalacanal and launched an attack.. The marine fighters stationed on the island attempted an interception, but the highly skilled zero pilots walked over the F4F4s and slaughtered them... Numerous bombs struck APs and AKs alike.. including a couple bombs destroying an allied DD. This turn the IJN BBs show themselves for the first time in the war, as 5 of them sail up close to this Guadalcanal and let loose with massive broadsides... The aim was to cripple the marine air forces most likely on the island. The massive salvoes did destroy some 20 planes on the ground and damage a like amount, the marines at this base were obviously unaware of the danger nearby as the shelling killed and wounded over 1500. Kates from the nearby CVs found and finished off the wounded AK Liran NE of Guadalcanal. The remaining allied ships obviously stopped the resupply and ran away.. I wonder why Rob thinks this operation is aimed at Guadalcanal ? Why not let him build up the airfield and port before I invade.. I'm sure the division+ I have following the BB TF and the CV TF has a nice juicy target planned... I wonder what lies south of Guadalcanal ? Hmmm.... [:D] [:D] And its all unprotected without any US CVs nearby... I think it would be a shame if the supply line to OZ was permanently severed... Kinda makes you think about the real target AND how many land units I have coming... After all if the attack on PI is understrength... where could those extra units be ? [;)] The Junyo is scheduled to arrive next turn (not worried if Rob knows this or not - more worried about the possible bug).. SO I have turned off accelerating it and hopefully she will arrive in Tokyo safe and sound.. I'll let you guys know.. This makes me think that the accleration bug only affects ships 1 day out - thus they go to -1 days to arrival and never arrive... Should be a simple fix... Xargun

AMERICAN WARPLANES STRIKE TRUK! (bbc sydney) American B-17 bombers attacked the Japanese port of Truk in an early morning raid. The American long range bombers attacked the port facilities heavily damaging them and left 10 or more enemy merchant ships ablaze. The bombers were met by a small patrol of Zeros who could not reach the altitude of the US planes. No losses were reported by the Americans and commanders of the unnamed bomb group refused to say whether or not this was the first of many raids or simply a harrassment raid into the enemy's interior. I couldnt help but notice, right after my bombers pounded truk, Operation Vanilla Ice withdrew from the Guadalcanal region and made a bee line to Rabaul...carrier, battleships everyone. I guess I got his attention :). Rob

Well another couple days have gone by and some light fighting elsewhere with heavy fighting in china ... Still... A highlight of yesterday was my lone sub sitting off Ceylon (forget the base name) found Rob's retreating BB TF.. For some reason my sub picked on the CLAA and attacked it twice, putting a total of 3 fish into her (if reports are true)... Either way she sank just off the coast of his base - in view of all those Brits who thought Ceylon was safe... silly Brits... Japan rules the world... My fighters also attacked and sunk a PT boat near Balikpappin.. Another highlight of the 21st, was the aerial assault of Bankha base in Sumatra. My paratroopers have finally succeeded in capturing a base... and it wasn't even empty either... they beat up some base forces most likely and sent them running north to Medan. I now have a foothold on Sumatra and the troops and supplies will begin flowing in. This turn !!! Hmm... My Nells from Tavoy spotted and finished off the AK Louisianan finally as she crept north towards safe harbors... Fierce air battles keep happening over Moulmein but Rob's best fighters (AVG) are not playing.... (At least I don't think they are - figure they are offline resting and getting replacements).. My Nates keep damaging the incoming bombers (not enough firepower to kill anything) and my Zeros are cleaning up what the Nates are leaving behind.. Rob's bombers are getting through, but are so worked up they can't hit anything... Each attack gains my pilots more experience and costs him about 6 planes... nothing much, but I'll take it compared to no loses for me. Rob keeps sending the same Hudsons back to Amboina every day for about a week now.. My Zeros there keep pounding them... I damage one and the squadron turns around and runs home... Their moral can't be good... He keeps trying to bomb the oil there, but the Hudsons are just giving my pilots moving target practice.. Usually 6 bombers show up and 1-3 return home - the rest are shot down.. Well to answer someone's question, Rob had those B-17s based at Rabaul and just moved them as my night / day attacks didn't get any kills.... or maybe he was lucky and they are still there... I hope.. Operation Polar Hammer.... Well its fully under way... At least the first part of it... the 2nd Infantry Division (fresh from a week of R&R in Truk) has stormed the beaches of Rabaul. They encountered very light initial resistance from the Brits and Oz troops there and expect to capture the base sometime today. This is simply the opening move of a larger attack along the southern front.. Rabaul needs to fall - basically so Rob can't use it as a base to launch air attacks on my SLOC.... Also this morning, troops landed on Kavieng via sub and expect to secure that base today as well. As soon as Rabaul is pacified, my ships will refuel/rearm and continue onto the next target(s).... Will Rob commit his CVs or surface warships to defend the South Pacific, or let the Japanese juggernaught run rampant through his back door ?? We shall see... As soon as Rabaul falls, I have several groups of betties and zeroes waiting to transfer, as well as shorter range Helens and some ASW planes... Rabaul will be quickly built into a mirror fortress like Truk... Also Tarakan has fallen to imperial japanese forces with surprisingly little to no damage. Sitting in the portside siloes are nearly 10,000 units of oil... TKs are entering port now and will begin the long haul back home within days... Fighters are already circling over the base... Well the war on the PI is going slow.. As we all know I do not have enough units there to win via superior forces, so I am trying to starve him out.. The problem is the all my bombers are still on Formosa and the weather there is horrible.. Maybe 1 day out of 4 or 5 is the weather nice enough to launch air strikes on Clark... If I didn't know better I would think Rob is sacrificing oil to the weather gods.... If the weather would clear for 4-5 days I could take Clark field.. and that will spell the end for the PI.
