I know you have probably stated this a thousand times… sorry.

If I disband a unit of aircraft, it will reform in 90 days by pulling aircraft from stock available and automatically be assigned pilots. The pilots will not come from the pool and their experience will be related to the year the air group is reformed.

I understand this MR.Frag, but many LBA do not have their max aircraft ready to fly on turn 1... and are repairing them as the war starts... They also only have enough pilots for the ready aircraft, SO as soon as a new plane is repaired and ready to fly, the pull a pilot from the pool whether or not you have replacements on - this is my problem with the situation... LBA are stealing the good pilots to fill out their stupid units of Recon and ASW squadrons.... To me... No replacements means NO replacements period.. No planes... No pilots..

I'm hoping this can be addressed and fixed in a patch...

Definitely annoying, especially considering how few pilots there are in the pool.

Sorry guys, I have not seen this in my game vs the AI. Granted it is only the 16 Dec. I have basically every air unit
set to no replacements. My pilot pool is IJA 403 and IJN 83. I had some Claudes get ripped apart so they sucked some pilots off.

Maybe I am not far enough into the game. All of my damaged at start a/c are fixed though.

Will see a massive drain of pilots when KB makes port though.

Personally, I think it a good thing that this is happening. IJN CVs were constantly out for 2-3 months training airgroups after theirs had been decimated. Anything to slow down the excessive pace of operations in WITP is a good thing. (My new catch phrase![8D])

I don’t have the game here, but I believe at the start there are a couple of units that are short of pilots. Yet me get the specifics and get back to you tomorrow, but from memory…

I think the two Nell units that start in Tokyo have damaged aircraft… 9 ready, 3 damaged, with 9 pilots. I generally transfer them somewhere else, and end up with a sub unit of 3, which I believe draws pilots from the pool.

Hi all,

Right now all squadrons that start or come later in game have as many pilots as they have ready aircraft. The damaged aircraft are pilotless which is, IMHO, wrong...

IMHO (again) all squadrons should come with as many pilots as they are aircraft (both ready and damaged).


Example

Betty squadron that now starts with 9 ready aircraft and 3 damaged has only 9 pilots.

It should have 12 since there are 12 aircraft.

Please note that number of pilots is only up to number of aircraft and not up to MAX number of aircraft squadron could have (so that when squadron fills out with additional aircraft to MAX the additional pilots should be drawn from pool and that is OK).

It can't be ... the entire system is based on the PLANE, not the pilots.

If you don't want pilots to be pulled for the excess planes, you need to get rid of the excess planes.

This was done specifically to resolve situations where pilots were being grossly inflated to aircraft. Remember the UV days of 200 pilots with 9 aircraft? We don't want to go back to that. It took a million and one changes to prevent that.

I don't mind the way this works. Let's face it, as Japan you just cannot avoid your pilot problem, only perhaps delay the crisis.

Plus, anything that might bring back the heinous UV bug Frag refers to must be avoided at all cost!

My personal "record" is around 90 pilots for one flying boat squadron (with 9 aircraft MAX).

Hear is a link to a former thread on this subject, if you will note that the figures given aply only to the Navy and that they at face value will seam stagering, consider that those for the Army which are absent would be Larger, then you will see that the numbers given in WiTP are truly laufagable.

Now having said that, I will say WiTP offer while not a truly historical system, it does offer one that works, and that can be manipulated by the player, given he wories over it enough, to an end posably better than Japan would of had it in real life. The same can be said in a way for the maner in which Japanese Air units upgrade, they way WiTP does it is not realy at all historical, but it is managable.

Gotta disagree, ammo, speed options, and fuel limitations compensate for the new and more realistic SYS damage. Don't change a thing[:)]

Ok.. How do you get rid of damaged planes ? or stop them from repairing them ? Either a fix in a patch or a solution I can use - its all the same to me.

reset them with the scenario editor ... either take out the extras or set the damaged ones to not damged.

LOL, so the best solution to Japan's pilot-poor situation is to remove planes. [8|] That's like curing a hurt finger by removing the whole hand.

You don't need planes, you have too many as is. What you need is LESS planes so you can keep your pilots flying with good aircraft [;)]

HI,
doesn't it strike anybody as odd, that many of the japanese air units are not war-ready so to speak at the beginning of the war. They are not up to full numbers when the war starts !
Is this consistent with history ? Have the japanese commanders just said: "Well the war starts the day after tomorrow, he have 10 surplus planes and no pilots, ahh we don't need them!"
Opinions?
