hi PzB... regarding invading Okha - i would go for it! Why not taking a little oil from Russians... Just be sure that you bring enough forces there (that you can defend this base from the counter attack)...

Someone might say that is an exploit, but hey Empire is also tied with all those KWA reinforcements which arrives in HI and not in Manchuria.... so, why not?

Wish we had some "Schrage Musik" on our fighters...difficult to shoot down enemy night intruders.

You have! IIRC the "SM" in the aircraft info is Schrage Musik![;)]

PzB74 -> RE: Heavy fighting in Luzon (8/25/2007 8:28:43 PM)

Double update! Managed to do one turn in a break at work [:)]

That's it Pauk - I need 800 AP! Sent most of these units to Kwantung, so not sure I
can scrounge enough. Maybe I can release a Home Island unit within a month and add some
units from Sakhalin. Doesn't seem like Andy is considering a landing there anymore.

Shindens in the Air

For the Fanboys [8D]

Since the Bonins are more than 8 hexes from the Home Islands (the Shindens max transfer range),
I moved a Daitai of George's there and upgraded.

Currently upgrading one 16 unit with Shindens each day. (Divide a 48 ac George/Jack unit and upgrade them
one by one). Also trying to rebuild Shinden/Reppu units in India. Purely a defensive posture thus far.
With 800 Reppu and 400 Shinden I only need another month to be armed to the teeth [sm=innocent0001.gif]

PzB74 -> RE: Heavy fighting in Luzon (8/25/2007 8:50:15 PM)

Except from the 'Black Widdow' - the Heinkel He219 'Uhu' (Owl) was the only custom built night fighter!
And what an Owl...it managed 400mph and fielded a good radar and up to 6x30mm guns. German night air defenses were
very effective and downed 80 ac in a single night in 3/44!

The 'Schrage Music' was more than a ventral gun...firing was commenced when photo cells detected substance above the aircraft
and let of a burst of 30mm rounds. Just a few hits would be enough to shoot down a 4E. In the process the night fighter would be
almost invisible to the bomber above!

Dang, was trying to do a Knavey [:D]
Was hoping I could get Matrix to turn it the other way [:D]

Things are in 'transit' - no big offensives - mostely a build up and stalemate while both
sides gather strength for the next round.

PzB74 -> RE: Heavy fighting in Luzon (8/26/2007 2:03:27 AM)

Slowly moving the 5th Div to Manila. This is one of the last major reinforcements to Luzon.

In India I'm trying to create a defense in depth. All major bases with 9 forts will at least
be defended by a Bde size battlegroup and base force units. Will slowly fall back upon Bombay and Karachi.
Andy will have to fight really hard to get them.

2 major LCU units have reached India marching from Burma. Moving on the last para(sit) position blocking
their road.

Finished upgrading all Zeke units to A7M2. One 'regular' A6M5 Daitai remains - it doesn't upgrade to anything else.
Then we got the numersou A6M5 kami units. When we run out of A6M5s in the pools and - if - we get a large surplus of
Reppus, we may create some A7M2 kami units.

1st Armoured

Thinking about moving the 1st Pz Div from Iwo to Kwantung!
It's a strong formation and I'm already moving 4 tank regiments to Kwantung as a mobile
reserve. A tank corps should be a useful asset against the massive Red Armies. WitP doesn't
difference between JSIII and JapCrap tanks as far as I know [8|]

Some 1860 AP at Iwo, and the enemy is pinned. With Shindens in the air, I doubt Andy want
a rematch. 1st Panzer is maybe 400 AP. What do you think - should we withdraw it?

What is the true number lost and when did the negative score appear? By my math (which is always fuzzy at best) I estimate you must have lost about 63,000 AC. That would be bloody. [X(]

It does differentiate between differing tank types (see the database or the plane/ground info screen in game) not sure JS3 is in there though, might just be t34's , but even so should be better than the 'japcrap' you so rightly name [:D]. How the game handles differant tanks is another matter however and i suspect that numbers may be way more important than type. So with that thinking I'd sent it to confront the red tide (whilst crossing fingers and patting a large oak tree for good luck)

nobunaga -> RE: Heavy fighting in Luzon (8/26/2007 10:09:47 PM)

rejoice, iirc there wont be any ISIIIs,
just 2300 T34/85, 600 SU100 plus some 150 ISU122/152 and 400 SU76[8|][sm=tank2-39.gif]

thatd be a real Panzerblitz [:D]

PzB74 -> RE: Heavy fighting in Luzon (8/27/2007 11:38:27 PM)

The negative numbers have been around for a year or so!
Both sides have lost large number of ac indeed.

I hear lots of talk about this Red Juggernaut, but have someone ever tried to fight it with anything
else than useless reserve/garrison units in the 45 scenario?

Even 3500 enemy tanks can be stopped, and I'm determined to do my best/worst!
With 4-500 JapCrap tanks (that may not be treated different in combat than T-34/85s) we may be able to
stop the enemy if we can win air superiority with out new Uber fighters [;)]

Remember a tank vs tank test on the forum some time ago; it was found that putting a certain number of
Jap tanks up against a certain number of Russian tanks caused almost the same casualties on both sides!?
Can anyone remember/confirm this?

I do seem to recall something about this now you mention it. Although the 'search' function is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard so doubt we'll be seeing it again soon.

Good luck as ever and long live the empire

Fishbed -> RE: Heavy fighting in Luzon (8/28/2007 8:28:39 PM)

Before activating the Soviets a little earlier than planned, maybe you should start to discuss with Andy everything that has to do with stationing non-soviet air units in soviet airbases - maybe create a rule which limits US air presence to a credible presence? Once the USSR gets available, nothing in the Empire will be out of Allied airmen reach, and you'd better have maximum air reserves by then, as the Home Islands will be turned into a burning hell...

Fishbed -> RE: Heavy fighting in Luzon (8/28/2007 9:03:14 PM)

My bad, just read that Andy promised you not to use USAAF units from Soviet held bases. Ok then, that's way cool from him [:)]

PzB74 -> RE: Heavy fighting in Luzon (8/28/2007 10:41:36 PM)

Yes Fish, we agreed long time ago that no US bombers were to be based in Soviet bases.
Tensions between US/USSR were growing after the fall of Nazi Germany! So Harbin will be a prime
target for Andy - come he11 & high water!-)

I haven't even tried to search for the tank test post...but I'm positively sure that tank type has just
as much meaning as different types of inf squads in WitP - and that's not much. What counts is numbers.

The Elf has offered me some of his custom made planetops - want to check out late war models.
Will install them as soon as I get them and post screenies! [:)]

neither is a tank a Get out of Jail free card either. Your own strategy + terrain + exp + leadership etc etc can override the stats of your tank and mean the difference between a failed (0-1) and a successful attack(1-1 or higher)"

Fishbed -> RE: Air & Carrier raid on Tokyo! (8/29/2007 1:50:17 AM)

I saw that in Andy's thread a couple hours ago. I thought it would be a great move, but the results look a little bit anti-climatic (for him of course [:D]) to me...! Why didn't he target the harbor at all for instance?
The samourais did put up a fairly good show

Sorry I just couldn't release the intel, please don't execute me Master [:D]

With a normal range of 1 it's gonna be hard to LRCAP a lot with shindens..

PzB, Did you get my PM?

PzB74 -> Air & Carrier raid on Gumma! (8/30/2007 2:54:32 AM)

Urk, touched the enter button and posted before editing.
Using a laptop for AAR is a Major Pain.

So, we're in July and may be nuked any time....
Andy didn't go home but sent another even larger strike against Gumma!
Not only were there 1 enemy CV TF - there were 2.

The cv's sent 140 Corsairs + Hellcats over Gumma and carnage happened.
22 Shindens caused a lot of damage to enemy and suffered surprisingly small losses.
Most Shinden pilots survive, which is great. 15 Shindens lost in A2A and 3 on the ground.
15 new ones arrived from factories today and all units are filling out. More of that later.

Enemy bombers hit air industries heavily and Shinden production fell to 468 units from
some 500. Andy will have to sacrifice a lot of his best navy pilots to keep it up.
44 Corsairs and 20 Hellcats were shot down today.

A sweep over Tokyo by Black Widdows caused us a 100 fighters!! Really surprised that the
night fighters are so good - even Reppus have a hard time. We downed 64 Widdows and won't
be seeing them again if that's a comfort.

Battle for Tokyo & Gumma

[image]local://upfiles/1466/1899610B952C4B41A3809B62E9FED5C4.jpg[/image]

PzB74 -> RE: Air & Carrier raid on Gumma! (8/30/2007 3:27:28 AM)

Yep Ian, got your PM! Looking forward to posting your airtops tomorrow [:)]

Indeed, the Shinden is not a LRCAP fighter...but you should see the baby in A2A battles with
decent pilots - the Corsairs melt under the quad 30 cannons [&o] [:D][8D]

You're forgiven Fish, I did what I could and provided a good LRCAP over Tokyo and maintained an
even stronger CAP over Gumma. Little to do when Andy manage to get of 160 fighters from 2 CV TFs in t-storms [8|]
The results were average - especially against Black Widdows - but Shinden performance boosted morale! Give
us another month and all our major centres will have 50 of them on CAP.

Agree, a port strike against Tokyo would have gutted half our destroyers, a light cruiser and the Kirishima! [:'(]

Gumma Strike

This is how the strike looked like!
How can CVs shrouded in during bad weather launch fighter escorts??

Just shows that we need to get more Shindens in the air if we are to prevent the terror bombers from terrorising the Home Islands!
