Og -> My bombers are central pac, my HQ is south Pac (8/19/2004 9:55:02 PM)

Does a south Pacific HQ help a central Pacific bomber group? if they are both in the same hex in the Central pacific?

How about if they are both in the same hex in the South Pacific?

How about if one is within 5 hexes in the Central Pacific and the other is in the south pacific.

Does just any air HQ help just any bomber group? Is there any kind of hierachy?

Mr.Frag -> RE: My bombers are central pac, my HQ is south Pac (8/19/2004 10:20:33 PM)

This qualifies as the most asked question in the game.

Look at the base screen. See up at the top left corner? It has a HQ. Find that Command HQ. That HQ governs upgrades and replacements. ONLY this HQ controls these effects. This applies to all units at the base.

Do *not* confuse this with combat bonuses provided from Army HQ's+Command HQ's or repair bonuses provided by Fleet HQ's or invasion bonuses provided by Amphib HQ's or flight bonuses provided by Air HQ's. ANY HQ in range gives it's bonus to ANY units of the correct type for the bonus.

Note the use of ANY vs ONLY for the different effects.

Thanks Mr Frag.

But...Does a south Pacific HQ help a central Pacific bomber group?

How does your answer answer my question? I guess you are saying yes, or are you saying yes in some cases?

Half way down, there are links about HQ's

See the ONLY portion of the response.

If the Bomber group is sitting at a BASE that belongs to SOPAC then SOPAC does the job. It couldn't care less about CENPAC.

Any reason I cannot change the assigned to hq of an airgroup starting at Philipines?

You mean apart from the obvious one of you not having enough PP? Nope.

freeboy -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 12:33:18 AM)

right pp will come with time, I would like these to be used in China against my pbem oponent

Thats, fine, *but* don't attach them to China Command, just shift to SOPAC.

freeboy -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 12:37:41 AM)

Thats due to the replacement issue correct?

Mr.Frag -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 12:41:21 AM)

Nope, not at all ... go back up and read the *ONLY* section again [;)]

It just gives you the freedom to go anywhere you want as SOPAC is completely unrestricted.

The difference would be that if your Southpac CommandHQ is on a Southpac base, the *LAND* units on that base will get much more replacements, as compared to the base being a Centpac base.

For your bomber unit, there should be no difference at all (or none that anyone could ever notice). For combat of the land unit, it's both the same too.

(Taking the severe risk that Mr.Frag will simply whack me upside the head with a 2x4.) May I suggest that you get them to write a better manual next time? (Now running away and desparately looking for a hiding place.)

[:D]

EDIT: Oh, sh**. Is it a good omen or a bad omen that this was the post that kicked me up from Matrix Veteran to Matrix Hero?

They can write a better manual right now; it's not like much of it needs changing, just rewriting a few parts that relate (imho) to land and HQ operations. That's probably 3 pages of work.

How can Frag get them to do that?

The manual considering the scope of this game is probably one of the best I have ever seen. Sure it could be a few hundred pages longer, but then everyone here would have nothing better to do then bitch about stuff [:D]

And that would be different than the current situation how exactly...?

[:)]

I don't think the manual would have to be any longer, just some parts of it are really, really, really confusing. It might actually end up shorter if it was made clearer.

Skyros -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 2:04:14 AM)

So Frag your avitar represents you and the questioner? Are you Itchey or Scratchy?

mongo -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 2:09:51 AM)

Absolutely right Frag.

considering you can control the Pacific War down to individual ships and battalions....sheesh

freeboy -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 2:40:52 AM)

Anouther hq area of great confusion???
Where do reinforcments arive vis a vis hq's? I am talking new units not replacements...
please do not tell me te reread the manual I just cannot take it anymore [sm=Christo_pull_hair.gif]

That depends completely on the editor, right? I can set a unit on say Melbourne and set it to arrive on Dec 27, 1941.. should be okay, I think.

Ask me not what happens if the the place where I set it to arrive has been occupied.. :-o

mongo -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 2:52:10 AM)

New units will generally arrive at your nation's HQ (SF, Karachi, Osaka, etc).

There are some units that appear in different places though? The location of arrival is listed in the info screen under LCU reinforcements.

rogueusmc -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 2:53:28 AM)

Think or replacements/supply this way:

A base belongs to SOPAC.

Present are a SOPAC HQ and a NORPAC HQ.

BG 'A' belongs to NORPAC. BG 'B' belongs to SOPAC.

BG 'B' will be supplied and supported by the base and HQ including replacements and upgrades.

BG 'A' will be supported because support is support. Supplies will be dealt to them from the base but they take second place to SOPAC units. They will not be dealt replacement and upgrades here because it is not a SOPAC unit. Replacements and upgrades are dealt out down through a certain command...being as the NORPAC HQ and BG aren't at a NORPAC base, they are assed out.

Supply and support are generic...replacements and upgrades aren't.

Change the NORPAC units to SOPAC units and they will get everything.

I thought whatever you set in the editor is honored.. almost all of them are set for Karachi, San Francisco, Sydney, etc..., but I thought you could just change that. Never done that, though.

By the way, Australian air units arrive all over the place - Sydney, Brisbane, etc...

F.

rogueusmc -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 3:21:37 AM)

Those are reinforcement units....not replacements...replacements are supply pretty much.

Captain Cruft -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 1:41:36 PM)

What would have helped this confusion is if there were an Independent HQ that you could assign air groups to. The manual would then have stated that you need to switch from whatever restricted HQ to Independent in order to free up the units.

rogueusmc -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 3:26:17 PM)

But then you'd have to pay PPs again to reassign them to another HQ

Captain Cruft -> RE: Thanks but does this answer my question (8/20/2004 3:29:12 PM)

Yes but once they are Independent there is never any need to re-assign them again.

As Mr Frag has stated countless times already, it is the HQ of the base that is relevant for air group replacements, not the HQ of the air unit.
