Belaja smert -> Mines placed in battle (6/9/2000 2:58:00 PM)

Hi, I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but as engineer units are able to place mines in battle those mines should, in my opinion, be visible to both players. I say this because my friends who have served in engineer troops say that you don't have time to conceal the mines properly in a combat situation, hence leaving them visible to all. Belaja smert

But they don't lay them in combat -I'm pretty shure they won't lay mines if they have any suppression. Furthermore they need about 2..4 turns per mine to place them, and as a turn is suggested to equal 2..4 minutes (right?), this should be plenty of time to prepare and conceal some few mines Arralen

Good point Arralen. I'll have to test this to be sure. I'm not sure about the amount of time a turn represents, but if its that long then it is quite possible to hide the mines properly. Belaja smert

It depends upon the terrain. While you probably don't have time to dig in, cover and tamp a mine you could throw some leaves over it. One issue is not that you don't have time to bury them, but if you do bury them, you have to take the time to plot the minefield then you need to unbury them when you move on. Engineers carry a basic load of mines and can emplace them in a hasty minefield as is done in the game during turns. Hasty minefields are meant to protect units temporarily. They may be extended into a permenant mine fields but more probably are just laid out in front of a unit for its temporary protection then recovered for reuse later when they move on. ------------------ An old soldier but not yet a faded one. OK, maybe just a bit faded.

I tried again - and still wasn't able to figure out on what the "laying speed" depends. Seems to me that the random factor is much greater than all others Arralen
