Theyre also elected for 2 years. Imagine having to go through this twice as often. God help us indeed.

[&:] Senators do not hold office for 2 years, they hold office for 6 years. The elections are staggered so that one-third run for office each two years. Not the same thing. [:-]

Oh, and Mr.Frag, the current Bush is not the first president to be elected with less than 50% of the popular vote.

To find the last time this occured we have to look all the way back to ............ the last President. What was his name, its been so long, Clinton I think. Nothing like selective memory.

pad152 -> RE: Should we ask? (10/19/2004 5:35:08 AM)

Good God, the only thing worst than waiting is politics.[:@]

Politicians are like diapers, sometimes they stink before you change them, sometimes they stink soon after, all you can do, is keep on changing them, just like diapers. That's because all politicians are full of, you know what.[;)]

canuck64 -> RE: Should we ask? (10/19/2004 2:01:44 PM)

Straw are those maple leafs or German hand grenades?

I think that's a quilt for Canadians on acid, frankly...

And as a canadian living in the US, I can assure you all that US politics is not the strangest thing you've ever seen. It's just a political game, much the same as in any other country. I fled my country because the francophones in Quebec kept asking whether or not they needed to be part of Canada in the first place, that is, until we won a Stanley Cup or had the Olympic team do well or some other such nonsense.

What IS amazing about living stateside, is the US population's generally complete lack of understanding of history, and so it goes.....

Currently there is a fuss in the US about FLU SHOTS for god's sakes...like that's a major election issue.

What I find curiously lacking about all of the conversation about the desire to take "terrorism on the offensive" is that it means the US has to act like a fascist country, which it is. Without getting too moral, doesn't that seem to be the issue at hand? Can't fault them for not wanting to be attacked by crazies in the mideast, but to be in a constant state of invasion (sometimes justified, sometimes not, but oh well)-not healthy.

Finally, if you elect someone, make him bright. Don't make it so that you can see the wheels creaking in front of the stage lights. Regardless if that makes him "homey"-but there you go...

NOW WHERE'S THE DAMNED PATCH??????

I second that, but also notice that the Mathematics and English skills out of US schools is very low, and I'm not talking only about the average students: the US team on Mathematics Olympics is regularly beaten by Asiatic and Eastern European teams.

For Christ's sake, Vietnam got 42 gold medals while US got 36 on the latest IMO (International Mathematics Olympics) competition on 2003...

No, in our system, it is the House of Representatives which receives the most populous vote and has the most direct relationship to the people - and that would have made Tip O'Neill President - Heaven help us!

And whats wrong with TIP, he got Boston the Big Dig before he died![;)] and still votes in every presidential election [:D]

Vote early, vote often, vote Curly

Williamb -> RE: Should we ask? (10/19/2004 9:05:36 PM)

Well we are up to democracy patch 2004.5 for the for elections.

It breaks as many things as it fixes.

BTW if we really wanted to do things the old way women wouldnt vote and only certain land owners could.

Like Churchill's comment "Democracy is the worst form of government except for all the rest."

canuck64 -> RE: Should we ask? (10/19/2004 10:08:46 PM)

Do I need to post anonymously to state that ever since we gave women the vote it's been all downhill from there?

Yes, I believe I do...fortunately the g/f is not home to see this act of non-pc'ness. ....

Frankly, I don't know if our current state of society in the US is more frightened than the one that hid under desks for air raids from potential USSR nuclear strikes (almost as stupid as the shoe bomber if you ask me, so things haven't changed much there)....

But a frightened society it is that elects dubya. In turn frightening....

GOOOD i wish there was some news about the patch. I'm bored to tears discussing politics....and of reading them. HEY-wasn't there some completely refreshing nonsense posted about WB cartoon characters and Monty Python sketches a few discussions ago? Couldn't we just spin this into unbridled nonsense?

Tankerace has shown us the way with his love of curly-incidentally, Tanker-kudos to you for releasing monthly updates as to the ongoings of your project. I've worked with hardware and software a looong time, and I know if you keep people in the dark about patches and stuff you're apt to get burned...wonder why Kid et al have gotten so quiet. Nothing embarrassing about running into snags....?

Tankerace -> RE: Should we ask? (10/19/2004 10:50:06 PM)

Hehe. The line I always think of is from Dizzy Detectives:

Moe: "Well, were is she?"
Curly: "I didn't see her, but I could swear" [SMACK!]
Moe: "That's a bad habit."

Or "Why don't you get a toupee with some brains"

pasternakski -> RE: Should we ask? (10/19/2004 11:38:48 PM)

How about getting some "Hard Day's Night" dialogue into the act?

Reporter: So, how do you find America?
John: Turn left at Greenland.

Reporter: What do you call that collar?
Ringo: A collar.

Hairdresser: What a clean old man!
Paul's grandfather: Ah, don't press your luck.

rogueusmc -> RE: Should we ask? (10/20/2004 12:52:49 AM)

Thanks for the kudos. I know how everyone likes to know that things are still working. Plus, I never bought the whole "If they're not updating, their working" shtick. If I'm not updating, I'm usually doing something else other than working.

Didn't you do it because of stupid tax rates and low wages as other 11 mils of canucks did in last 30 years?

Do me favor, take you political commentary somewhere else.[8|]

I am tired of reading political crap on this board. This is not the proper venue for it.

canuck64 -> RE: Should we ask? (10/20/2004 5:08:39 AM)

denison,

If you read through my post again, you might find it mostly tongue-in-cheek. I ended by asking others if we could escape politics and get back to the 'supremely silly'.

Fortunately others did so intentionally. You apparently are doing so unintentionally, but no matter. You're right that it should be a little lighter-hearted than wearing political hearts on sleeves.

I for one, am just frustrated as there are several things the patch purportedly addresses that I don't want to start another game without patching. That said, I can wait so long as I hear that SOMETHING is happening with it...

As for future matters, just do yourself a favor and don't read my posts...

denisonh -> RE: Should we ask? (10/20/2004 5:21:51 AM)

I reread your post. Pointed political comments are pointed political comments.

Not sure how "light hearted" applies.

I have no decided political agenda, I simply dislike pointed political commentary in a forum that does not encourage discussion on the topic.

As for the patch, I am playing a PBEM under 1.21 and enjoying it. I will not start another without patching but see no reason to restart the long campaign PBEM as we are through April 1942.

And as for doing favors, don't post crap.....

denison, get off the cross we need the wood. You need to take yourself a little less seriously, dude. Get a life and stop posting quite so much on an open forum, perhaps you'll become attuned to the fact that you don't own it and have even less point telling me what to do. What next, your mom will beat up my mom?

Praise be freedom of speech. At least you 'get it'. How bout this. I'll stop posting crap if you start posting at least quasi-intelligently.

RevRick -> RE: Easy, guys... (10/20/2004 2:27:07 PM)

This ain't gonna get us anywhere. Enough's been said, I think. Don't let frustration feed the fire... Now, that being said, as a card carrying liberal middle of the road right winger...

I WANT MY 1.3!! And I'm going to hold my breath until I get it..

Wow... That didn't last long.

canuck64 -> RE: Easy, guys... (10/20/2004 6:17:10 PM)

Thanks for the wakeup call, RevRick, I think you're on to a tack here that might get us the patch soon...

I suspect that the code to the game's been re-re-re-written so many times that while the OOB changes are straightforward enough (been doing thousands of my own since the game came out, trying to implement a lot of what I read on the OOB thread...) the EFFECTS of some of the fields are a complete mystery....

I might as well redirect-Tanker, I noticed NO automatic weapons in the field units' oob's-I was wondering, since I was trying to use up fields in a way that made sense to me, if you had tested anything of note in OOB tinkering with your Plan Orange mod?

Anything in there that some private hackers might make use of that is cool, different, or even undocumented that you can discern?
