kokubokan25 -> RE: War in the Pacific-Schematic Mode-The Chronology (2/8/2005 2:20:43 PM)

In the "Wake case" actually the damage was light and very light to the warships.
The Amphibious task force gets the more damage. Most APs get HEAVY and VERY HEAVY damage, also the DD Yugumo and the CL Kashima.

The first force is a bombardement force that bombard with light damage Wake. After arrive the Amphibious force that get the most damage. Two APs sinks return to Truk. Probably another three transports do not reach Truk, and the crippled Yugumo.

Not really. The fact that they are firing this much is worrisome. I wonder if all CD guns fire at each target? Anyway, this is alot of hits! What are these CD gunners, all naval trained with director controlled weapons or what!?![X(][:-] One would think the ships would be firing back, hitting and disrupting the CD gunners. Problem with this game is that NOTHING is simultaneous it seems...everythings in phases. That's why we get weird land bombardment results etc.

-Between 10 and 15 september the japanese launch the invasion of Wake. The first day the Kido Butai destroy the island airstrip. In the atack the kokubokan launch 104 bombers and 15 fighters from four CVs and two CVLs. The morning of the 15 the battleships Ise, Mutsu, Nagato and Hiei, the cruisers Chokai, Mogami, Yura, Kinu and Abukuma, and 6 destroyers bombard Wake. In the afternoon the base is in japanese hands after a shock attack with five NLF japanese units. 3.800 americans are prisioners.
-The 17 sept. allied ships try to bombard Lunga again. This time with three old battleships, the Mississippi, Idaho and New Mexico. The Mississippi is torpedoed the same day 60 miles south Guadalcanal and the entire operation is cancelled.

It WAS recoded to deal with endless naval bombardment missions. Because the game allows massive damage by naval bombardment and the 7/11 like ability of fishing wharves to refuel and rearm naval TFs, players use naval bombardment way out of proportion to actual fact. And this is not an issue where the player is using the assets in a better way than the historical combatants, it's because the game has made naval bombardment so easy and so rewarding that it is now a major staple of game strategy. BS. Instead of dealing with the root of the problem (reducing naval bombardment effectiveness vs bases and making it necessary for TFs to refuel and rearm at bases of a minimum size and/or with naval base forces present), they decided to counter it with further excessiveness (making CD batteries from Hell).

So, I don't like this and many aspects of the game....but, I'll still play it because it has no counterpart.
