kellyc -> Japanese production....help? (11/16/2004 11:11:53 AM)

Hello,

I've been doing alot of searching through old posts and whatnot on the subject matter yet I haven't seen a step by step Japanese production outline (or I missed it completely) I saw some stuff but it's pretty outdated (prior to 1.3 patch) I was wondering if someone had one and would be willing to either post it or send it to me via email? (email is: crawford.k@sbcglobal.net or reno_101@yahoo.com )
Currently running my first pbem game and don't want my military industry falling apart when I really need it.
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Kelly

I would be interested as well [:D]

Particularly I am not sure I understand if all this Ressource points need to be transported from factories to factories or if everything apart from supply and fuel is abstracted (in which case the only thing you have to worry about is to repair damage factory and verify your production line is not over your supply line)... Also, can you start a factory from scratch somewhere (at a cost) ? [&:]

Is there a dedicated production FAQ somewhere ?

BTW, I have been reading the manual for a few days, and I think the beta test team should have spend a little bit more time on it (although I know it's difficult to do that AND play the game). There is a number of typos which is high enough to be noticeable (and slightly annoying while you read), and most mistakes should have been picked-up by the Grammar/Spelling tool in Word. And I am not even a native english speaker ! [X(]

PM me with you email address and I can send you a production scheme I use for lemurs mod 4.0. It is a document done under microsoft word.

This production scheme has been tested in 2 PBEM games and works. Not completely compatible for stock scenario 15 due to different upgrade paths, but will get you started.

kellyc -> RE: Japanese production....help? (11/16/2004 8:26:22 PM)

Thanks very much 2ndACR.

That was what I was looking for and will be of very good use.

Sincerely and respectfully
Kelly Crawford.

I posted some suggestions on Scenario 15 in the following post:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=743869

The choices you make are *very* dependent upon scenario. If you are playing 15, don't implement scen 26 suggestions as you will regret it (and vice versa).

One man put the manual together I believe...he wasn't a Beta Tester.

Could have been worse......

they could have let Brady write it.......(poilets).[;)]

OK, I have read what people have send me, but I think my main question is much more basic. [sm=dizzy.gif]

Supply and fuel, I know you are obliged to transport them (as in UV). [:D]

In WiTP there are also "ressources", "manpower" & "oil" as raw material, created in certain hex: Do you need to make convoys to transport them as well ? I bet you do for oil and ressource (because they are in the table p97 of the manual [:)]), but not for the other points: Manpower/Industry/Aircraft Engines are abstracted, right ? You don't need to move the aircraft engines from factory A to factory B to assemble an aircraft ? Or do you ? [&:]

These items go into a pool, you don't have to move them. Resources and oil have to be transported across water; once they are on the same landmass as your heavy industry centers, they will move themselves to the HI by rail.

Exception: Resouces and oil can transport themselves across one water hex between two size 3 ports. There is some spot where this condition occurs, I can't remember where.[8|]

OK, thank you very much.

I suppose the move by rail is instantaneous ?

2ndACR -> RE: Japanese production....help? (11/17/2004 4:00:31 PM)

Not instantaneous. It can sometimes take a couple days to make the move.

IIRC, every 2-3 days there is a check for the need of oil/res, then the base that needs either, basically sucks it to it.

CatLord -> RE: Japanese production....help? (11/18/2004 1:28:55 PM)

OK another couple of noob questions:

If I understand completely, the two things a Japanese players has control on in Production are:

- Accelerate or halt a ship production,vs. its historical date of arrival.

BUT it cannot, let say, trade the production of a BB (or other ships) to get a new ahistorical CV that didn't exist in reality. right ?

- For aircraft, OTOH, you can choose to produce more of a type that did exist in reality, and completely halt production of another. So I can "trade", let say, for example, a couple of Oscar, to have more Emily. right ?

- What about land units ? Is that like navy (you cannot have more than reality) or like aircraft (you can have more squads than in history) ?

So the "golden rules" are:
- You cannot produce everything you want
- Choose your strategy first
- Get your aircraft production ready first (because this is where you can really make a difference)
- Adjust eventually your naval production to meet the need to complement your aircraft strategy.
- Get your land prodution ready

So it's not impossible of thinking of a (probably) silly strategy where you could concentrate on long range planes that you intend to only use from base and disregard CV production, in an effort to concentrate on a "ground unit/continental bases/long range planes" strategy instead of a "naval group/island bases/naval planes" one ? (broadly speaking, I am aware this needs to meet the reality of the map and where ressources are located). Is it ?

2ndACR -> RE: Japanese production....help? (11/18/2004 1:40:10 PM)

Correct on the ship. What you see is what you get.

Aircraft is tricky. If you are playing the stock scenario 15, you only have a certain amount of units that can use each aircraft type. Does not matter if you have 2,000 of them sitting in your pool, only a "set in stone" number of air units can use it. Or will upgrade to it.

Increase armament production, but not massively. These are needed to produce replacements for your ground forces. Also, what you see is what you get. No creating any new divisions mid game.

You have the gist of it. It takes some getting used to. My production changes have been tested in PBEM all the way out to July 42 and I have had no problems. They may not be the best choices for everyone, but those are what I stick with. After Feb 42, I start looking at my next "upgrade" plan for my industry, but it all depends on how intact the oil/res bases were taken. These are more "tweaks" than anything else. Small increases in HI, repair yards, armaments etc. Always small bumps upwards though.

CatLord -> RE: Japanese production....help? (11/18/2004 1:44:16 PM)

Ha. Didn't thought about air unit being set in stones. [:(]

OK, so you don't really control production in this game, you can only tweak it a little bit.[:'(]

Not criticising here, just willing to understand [:)]

You both do have control and do not have control. It is a hybrid system. Some good, some I hate. I hate that I can build 2000 of a plane and have them in the pool and yet not be able to tell this air unit to upgrade to them.

That is why I play Lemurs version only in PBEM. At least in that mod, I have a little more freedom with a/c upgrades. No getting stuck with 2/3 of the IJA equipped with Oscar II when I have 1000 Franks ready to go.

Ideally I suppose you would want to be able to upgrade from any plane type to any other plane type to get advantage of your pool (I mean, allow any fighter air group to fly any fighter type, or any dive bomber air group to fly any dive bomber types)... Even if it means you actually "downgrade" a particular unit to finish your pool on a certain type of planes, if you have nothing better to give them while a production is further down the line...

He he, I voted on your poll, now that I have understood better how the system is supposed to work [sm=party-smiley-012.gif]

The manual is always unsufficient, fortunately, there are the forums: you spend some weeks asking questions, then you begin to answer questions. Cat Lord, you saw it already in Hearts of iron or crusader kings manuals. And the french version is not better....
