CMDRMCTOAST -> Anybody encounter an endless attack by pt's? (11/29/2004 4:49:46 AM)

Tutorial test

I was testing a PT engagement 1 hex away from port and
my task force reacted to the PT's that just arrived at the base
and wound up engaged with an endless supply of them until my
entire fleet was sunk.

The PT task force was made up of 6 boats total 3 hexes from the port
and react set to 6 with the IJN task force between them and the base
the boats engaged in the base, all were sunk by endless PT boat
reinforcements.

never seen anything like it.

You've heard of Factory Ships? Apparently you encountered at PT Boat Factory Ship...[:D]

2ndACR -> RE: Anybody encounter an endless attack by pt's? (11/29/2004 6:16:42 AM)

I have yet to encounter anything like that. But that is why the PT boat is the ultimate weapon in WITP. Basically immune to air attack unless your opponent manually places his aircraft on naval strike at 100' and starts some serious praying that both no enemy fighters show up and that the a/c actually go after the PT boats and not some BB ship TF.

I love how a few .50 holes manage to sink a destroyer. Yet a destroyer can absorb a ton of 8" shells and stay afloat sometimes.

Halsey -> RE: Anybody encounter an endless attack by pt's? (11/29/2004 6:30:23 AM)

If you play the Mariana's scenario you can see the same thing. The US has around 140 PT's in that scenario. Put them in 4-6 boat TF's, and you get a lot of attacks against enemy TF's crazy enough go after the base they're at.[:D]

It looks like all the IJN ships took one or more torps here...

CMDRMCTOAST -> RE: Anybody encounter an endless attack by pt's? (11/29/2004 7:00:14 AM)

So even if all the PT'S are disbanded except the 6 in the original
task force they will still form task forces and attack?
There were BB'S, CA'S, CL'S, and numerous DD'S in that port
all disbanded like the PT'S were and yet the PT'S formed into
task forces of 6 ships apiece and attacked until the Japs were out of ammo
and sunk. LOL

Ron Saueracker -> RE: Anybody encounter an endless attack by pt's? (11/29/2004 7:02:39 AM)

That's funny but sad. Hope they keep fixing these weird things as theycrop up.

They all took multiple torps at one point.

I seem to recall that PT boats are supposed to automatically form TFs when they base they are at is attacked. So, yes, it looks like the program worked as designed.

Now, whether a hundred and forty PT Boats should be able to sink nine cruisers and destroyers is a discussion I will leave for others. [:D]

Brady -> RE: Anybody encounter an endless attack by pt's? (11/29/2004 7:27:08 AM)

It is ok for us to have PT's and the totaly wacked/unhistoric efectiveness they offer in the game, but we cant have the handfull of midgets Japan had for fear they might actualy torpedo somthing.

Don't show Zeta16 this or I will never capture Manilla from him.[:D]

But the idea is flawed because the naval combat system can't cope with the programmed intent. The concept of a 60 mile hex is so distorted depending on the situation. Here ya got multiple TFs ALL intercepting another TF in a 60 milke hex BUT during naval combat ships in THE SAME TF are inexplicably (aside from "it's a 60 mile hex") unavailable. There is no consistency at all.

Ron Saueracker -> RE: Anybody encounter an endless attack by pt's? (11/29/2004 8:17:25 AM)

SINCE YOU ARE Using the tutorial, check out the ASW and tell me it's not flawed. Put all subs in hexes with enemy TFs and run a turn or two. All the subs except for a few USN will be on the sunk ship list.

Not only that, but I've seen you use the exact same words in other posts so I know you're cutting and pasting it from some file you have somewhere. [:'(]

Nope. Need a new mouse because right button is wonkyand can't cut and paste in this situation. Just posted it so often it is a natural reflex![:D] All true though.
