fbastos -> Frag: /norandom switch? (1/19/2005 5:05:04 AM)

Mr. Frag,

Please ignore this if it was already handled.

I asked Kid once, and he would ask Mike; now that you're holding the Alamo, let me repeat the question, so it won't be lost on the transition.

Could we have a switch like /norandom that would make the random number generator repeatable between saves? The point is that anything that depends on a random number will not be repeatable, and if that anything has a bug, then the bug will not be repeatable. By having a switch that would force the random number generator to repeat the same sequence no matter how many times you load the saved file, you will get a huge improvement on obtaining the repeatable saves that are needed to eliminate the random bugs.

Thanks, F.

According to Mr. Frag - there is no random number generator, just a pseudo-random number generator. There is a seed that is saved for this in the save game.

See thread "Canadians Capture One of their own" - if you load WITP - load save - run turn - it will ALWAYS give you the same numbers.

However, if you run another turn without exiting the game - you will get different results. Also, i have discovered that if you load WITP, load a saved game, make your orders, end turn you get different results than if you make your orders, save game, run turn - you get different results than if you take that same saved game and run it after just loading WITP.

Ah, right-o. I wasn't following that thread.

Thanks for catching that.

My pleasure![:D]

For once i feel like i am actually contributing something more than my usual gripes in trying to figure out what is going on here.

Just to clear up your understanding ...

there is no point adding such a switch as it would accomplish nothing. The game is *supposed* to repeat exactly. The fact that it is not is due to a bug that came in somewhere between 1.3 & 1.4.

A switch would accomplish nothing hence Kid not actioning your request.

Many thanks, Frag, that completes it!
