25/4/42
the war continues
ASW action Phillipines - miss
p39s attack akyab - getting experienced Im sure
Wellingtons join in the fun. The place is a crator. Ive actually told the little base force and 400 infantry that I flew in to march north away from the place, let him think Im still coming, and make akyab even more attractive.
114 sallies hit manilla today

Fresh troops begin to arrive in the city

BB yamarishio rejoins the fleet
I give bucket loads of units BRISBANE as a future target - lets see how well his signet works
spent much of the turn getting the HQs organised through the theatres

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (5/31/2005 12:25:58 AM)

26/4/42
I hold the changsa offensive a few more days, not quite enough Prep points yet for 2 of the divisions
Akyab is visited again
Wuchow gets its daily dose
I hit Manilla
little other action though
He appears weaker at manilla - gee I wish there was some way we could after a month or more of recon that you could get an idea of the enemies supply situation.
lots of troops have 30 miles to go to join the fray
Most of the clarke field troops I pulled out are on ships, and about to head south, siapan or truk the destination

here is the situation
Burma
big raids planned for tomorrow, just a few units on the front, both divisions are in rangoon, he can have the malaria
A sub is off akyab, maybe he is planning something - BB yammato awaits
Also 2 small task forces are enroute to boost my naval presence

Malaya
resources and supplies are good, and being moved nicely

Sumutra
palembang is at a miserable 31 oil, no resources. 4th mixed regiment is the guard unit here. The 2 small oil centres to the north are producing at 100 units

Java
batavia is at 80 oil, 3 divisions still marching south, he is running away for a wrecking last stand in soerabaya, which is what Id do too
Tijilitjap will fall tomorrow

noorth Aust
is actually producing supplies
2 TFs are on guardduty south of java, and 1 sq of betties also
derby has bombers
darwin 2 sqs of helens, and fighters
2 divs of troops are in great nick, and digging in well south of the city

Timor
secure, supplied and fuelled

Ambonia, sorong -
at 100 oil - loading tankers

Kendari
is at 100%

balikapapan
Is at 100%

tarakan
only 45 oil, but 75000 supplies will see that fixed

brunie
at max production
Miri
at max production

solomons
supplies are so, so, which sums up the entire economy, Im almost at the bottom I think. Troops are OK, but IM still relying on KB as the mani shied here
All the subs with glenns just departed Kwel for the coral sea again, I intend to cut the convoy route again, and maybe even pay NZ another visit.
I need to find his CVs

wake has 10000 troops
China is stalemated

Well I think this game of matrix's has really (on one level) totally recreated a military historical moment.[&o][&o][&o]
On one level it truly is for me a historical simulation.[8D]
Just like Japan was in May 42, Im faced with the yammato question - where to strike next -how to draw the enemy CVs into decisive battle, on my terms.
As in real life I have to choose a target dangerous enough to him to force battle, yet avoid his LBA, and any ambushes.
And Im running out of time
And because the army is tied up still, it has to be a purely naval op

Interesting[:'(]

So now I have to get him thinking Im going to attack brisbane, and bring him to battle[:@][:@][:@]

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (5/31/2005 11:58:09 PM)

Finished re assigning HQs to proper places this turn, now just got to get them there[:(]
27/4/42

sub action off palembang- miss
I hit mandalaby - 63 lilly, 27 sally, 36 oscars - for 77 hits[:'(]

But in turn Akyab gets crumped again
33 liberators attack gilli, gilli - catch me by surprise, and destroy 4 a/c on the ground (sonias)
I hit manilla again, am just awaiting the last troops, about a week , I want to be very sure about this
54 zero sweep soerabaya, the cap of 16 enemy is wiped out
Tijilitijap falls - good, wont have to try to spell that silly name again[8D]

little planned or happening this week, resting for 2 days the troops in java, need a week in the phillipines, subs on the move from kwel, and China I just wait.
I see some movement from down south on the railroad towards changsa - I think he got wind of the offensive.
If so, Ill delay it, having troops leave the wuchow front would do me nice

Ive got 2 cve's now, and will send them to singapore, to provide some cover for yammato and co

Im really starting to get a feeling akyab will be attacked soon.

I have to say it, my opponent - by playing sensibly, and myself, by playing the mogami way - have really found ourselves with a delightful game, and one that is proving more and more historical each day on the grand scheme of things.

The ASW war is going pretty historical
Ive got the what to do next question, just like yammato had
Im struggling with oil, just like japan did
Supplies to the front are a struggle, as per reality
Fuel is scarce (yes, its scarce)
And Im stretched on all fronts already.
And the phillipines are holding out to the historical date.

And its all making for a great game.

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/2/2005 12:14:50 AM)

28/4/42
The great debate over what to do next continues - well in my head anyway[8|]
Kb sailed, but will probably return back to Truk, until I get a grip

Lesson, never launch an attack with out a clear objective, and here I have my major assett wandering south with out one[:(]

sub action maccassar straight - miss
The AVG is at hengchow
Akyab is pounded again
There is more cap reported at soerabaya - another sweep is ordered
We bombard at manilla, the last troops assigned are enroute
troops will attack at pontiak tomorrow, as we clean up the dregs

The war at wuchow continues
And I order an advance on yennen, trying to hide the real attack to come
The entire chinese front is aflame, its WW1 all over again

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/2/2005 12:29:18 AM)

29/4/42
A good sign for the tear, oil levels in the empire seem to have turned the corner, and are begging to rise
Supplies are very, very low in some areas, and so is fuel, Im hoping they will turn the corner too soon
I have been very aggressive with industry and shipbuilding expansions, they are swallowing heaps, finished the last orders for expansion this turn.
Im using freeboys example - war in schematic mode_AAR as my target for industry ect, and seem to be on track to match it[:'(]

Akyab only had a light raid today
I order a small task force to rangoon
2 sweeps over soerabaya cull more fighters, 108 zeros today
2 more sweeps and the zeros will be redeployed I think

The enemy reconned Attu island today - well there is a clue of his plans
Wonder if i can use this as an opportunity?
In Suva the march south continues
At wuchow the enemy continues the pressure
2 hexes to the east he attacks, 1 to 1, and is rebuffed

I dont know how to do screen captures, China is so interesting at the moment.
Up north units are headed towards yenen- a fient
Next south, several mongolion units are battle his spread out units, spring rain is dissapated now over about 3 or 4 hexes
In the centre, troops on the move,, I have a single unit south of changsa, trying to cut the road behind the city, tabpub has met it

then south of hengchow the wuchow front is aflame over a 4 hex length

I do not think I will see any chinese troops in burma[8|]

I need a good couple of hours this weekend to plan the next operation, the internal debate continues.[8|]

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/6/2005 12:02:02 AM)

In other forums tabpub boasts that the phillipines will last another month, and soerabaya another as well.

Lets see[:@]

30/4/42
24 oscars sweep soerabaya, light cap is engaged ineffectually
I continue bombing manilla - I switch to port attack today
Attu island is reconned again
1 AK sunk in north japan waters, 7000 resources gone[:(]. Just tabpubs daily sub allowance[8|]
An Ap is missed macassar straight
rock throwing continues in manilla
East of Wuchow the fighting continues

Im trying to clean up the lark battalion in new britain, it hangs on grimly.
The Allies shock south of hengchow, get 2 to 1, but I hold
South of Changsa my naval guard unit is pushed another hex east

KB and KB2 are nearing Lunga

3 days until we attack in manilla

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/6/2005 12:10:48 AM)

1/5/42
Im watching oil levels closely, its a very real worry.
An Ak is attacked and sunk near bonin island, drip, drip, drip.

Lots of ships leaving soerabaya port today!
Gilli, Gilli is reconned today
Vals attack a sub at Munda , KB gives herself away[:(]
P38s are being used for recon in Australia, grrrr
A sub shoots at a APD near bali, and misses
Djokarta falls today, the steady march south in java continues, I have to watch the supply situation though

The Aussie lark battalion refuses to die
More bombardments at Wuchow, Gawd, the endless hordes tabpub is pouring into the southern front!!
And I was wrong, at least 5 chinese units are at lashio

At bali, with shipping pouring out of soerabaya, I have to divert the critically needed transport trying to get in, it may be an attack by PT boats

The Nells down south are put on naval attack - 100 ft
nells from batavia are put on port attack, and quite a few ships are sent to the bali area
The trap closes, but he still has teeth.

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/6/2005 12:23:39 AM)

2/5/42
Sarmi in PNG falls today, last base to get
The big bug out at soerabaya is occuring

In Burma a change, pagan is hit by the B17s, no hits though.
I will have to respond to this though
A glenn recons brisbane again - I can't find his CVs

And that makes me very, very nervous

the Cina front is ablaze, from top to bottom, it is amazing.
The 50 PP rule has turned this front into a facinating game of its own -and now its very, very historical[8D]

2 Aks fleeing soerabaya are hit, and should sink by sonias operating in bali
1 of my subs there hits another
The troops arrive in manilla
lark battalion still holds on
At wuchow he deliberate attacks - he wont rest here I feel. 2 to 1 , I hold, but its grim.

Plans -
oscars are going to pagan from the phillipines
In java we enter madioen tomorrow
heaps of planes on naval strike in the area
The commander at rabual describes the supply situation in the solomons as "bad"
Its "bad" everywhere buddy!!!
I order the changsa offensive to commence - PP now sufficient
The whole idea is to capture changsa, and then sweep deep inland, cutting off all those troops down south
thats the plan
the reality is I've got to relieve pressure down near wuchow, IM being ground to dust, spending far too many supplies and men

he continues to attack south east of changsa, might trap this division if changsa falls.

And KB dithers near Lunga, I still have this gut feeling she should ge elsewhere.

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/6/2005 12:31:49 AM)

3/5/42
sub attack near japan, miss
soerabaya clouded in
15 nell port attack the place, the flak is terrible, 5 are lost, 10 damaged, no hits
124 sallies hit manilla
he hits akyab again
Wuchow hit by the chinese in the daily raid.
Must say here, tabpub is doing a great job keeping his air going in china
No opposition mind you.
I do not want to provoke him here, the last thing I want are heavies operating in China

In China, the mongolians shock attack south of yenen, and are repulsed by a single division.
nasty
Cursed lark battalion will no die[:@]
again he deliberates at Wuchow, 1 to 1 today
2 hexes east also a 2 to 1 attack, i hold.
The front is creaking
Directly south of wuchow 2 fresh divisions are awaiting as a backstop, the writing is on the wall in this front.
troops are on the road to changsa

KB - well the state of mind over the KB operation is revealed, I forgot to move it this turn[X(]
Im just not committed to this op, so KB is going to go home for a refit[:'(]

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/6/2005 12:46:31 AM)

[:@][:@]4/5/42
tabpub asks - am I attacking everywhere in china - looks like it!!
Mines in bali
transports get into bali
ASW action Munda - miss.
been a while since I sank a sub[8|]
I get angry, and use the rabual betties to bomb the lark battalion

In java, a bad turn, some CAP does not fly, and 21 regiment, which is about to land in the city south of soerabaya is hit hard by the remains of his airforce
CL Kuma is smashed by 3 swordfish torpedoes, and sinks
A AP si hit, 2000 men are in peril now
And a PG is sunk as well

In reply the nells finally fly and strafe a PT boat to death

I have to do my first naval bomber, split, disband and merge mogami method today.
In manilla the deliberate attack goes in, and finally, finally it falls[:@]

madioen falls
and to finish the weekend off, wuchow troops are driven from the city, tabpub just commits so many men
9 corps vs 1 division, 1 regiment, 1 eng and tank regiment
I get troops into changsa, the old 1 div ahead of everyone trick - if he attacks it, does he lose his forts?

I think I lost the 4th division somewhere[:(][:(], it was withdrwn from clarke ages ago, now all I can find of it is some lousy 700 men.
poo
poo

poo

In Burma, 35th brigade goes to the front from rangoon, the only way I will take mandalaby is by infiltration - so off it goes.

OK, Clarke next.

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/7/2005 12:54:39 AM)

5/5/42
i need an ASW group at the bonins - its not to be had[:(]
malang landing 21 regiment - cloud cover is really helping
ASW action near bali, no hits
Sub attack at djokarta - an AK goes down (just his daily allowance[:(])
sub attack bali - miss
troops stalled at yenen battle - i order a withdrawal
lark battalion dies at last
And Im drives south from hex east of wuchow

At changsa - the troops arrive - I must take this place quick before the reinforcements arrive

KB is ordered home
Mini KB will sweep the coral sea - make her prescence known -and return to Truk
I have decided my war strategy - no more offensives except in Burma (mandalaby only Objective left - and Akyab is still there as bait) once DEI taken

In my UV game against wobbly - where I cannot control the rate of ship arrival, the mere prescence of LB has influenced the war wildly, and its march 43 - and a crushing counter attack is doable.
Its more doable with WITP, where I can control all the ships.

So thats the plan
Hide, then using 4 divisions, the full wieght of of KB, and all the naval bombers - crush the 1st tabpub attack.
The gilberts will be the best place for a CV on CV battle, after that, the solomons for the bettie defence..
thanks to the phillipine fiasco, and no oil at palembang disaster, I cannot win this game - but if he retires - discouraged- Ill claim a win[8|]

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/7/2005 12:58:46 AM)

the changsa shock attack achieves 2 to 1, drops forts to 7 - and wrecks my army

I order the china front to go quiet - if we can.
Time to pull in my head.
With the 50 PP house rule he gets wind of my attacks, and prepares appropiately.

i cannot disengage near wuchow - game wont let me
malang fell
troops enter soerabaya tomorrow i hope
And clarke as well

Sub attack at rabual - a HQ carrying AP is hit - but makes port

A quiet day - but a fatal one for me in China[:(][:(][:(][:(]

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/9/2005 12:04:26 AM)

7/5/42
2 pts brush against 2 msws at kragean, they all go home thinking why bother
sub attack north japan miss
SSI-2 is sunk trying to attack CVE long island near noumea

The combat replay here went real screwy - the DDs were at the bottom of the screen being depth charged

The combat report was really screwy - it showed every single ship I have in port on the whole map, vs his whole convoy[:'(][:'(][:'(] .
did not affect the actual combat, so OH well.

troops are in Clarke, will attack tomorrow, the Sallies continue to bomb away
troops enter soerabaya tomorrow

China - run away, run away!!!!--china has big nasty sharp teeth - its a killer rabbit it is[X(][X(][X(]

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/9/2005 1:02:45 AM)

Minutes from IMPERIAL DEFENCE POLICY MONTHLY MEETING NO 1

meeting opened with a brief overview of the war so far by commander HERBIESAN. To summarise, although the war aims of siezure of the DEI and phillipines and a outer defence perimeter had gone well, and would soon be finished, the following had to be noted

1/ failure to inflict heavy casualties to the main enemy - the american fleet, especially the CVs
2/The debacle in the phillipines, which had destroyed any hope of a PHase 4 offensive
3/The siezure of oil centres in a destroyed state - no confidence that soerabaya would be any different
4/ Theses factors would detirmine future strategy
5/ On the positive side was the undamaged air forces, and the power of KB had grown, and remained very potent

The economy minister then spoke
1/ Oil was the key - and was still falling
2/ The carnage on the china front had sucked the empire dry, supplies simply were not to be had, exsasperated by the aggressive expansion program
The phillipines, and palembang oil rebuilding program were also terrible supply strains.
he could not at this stage promise any new units growing until the supply situation eased - if ever.

this put much dampner on the aggressive spirit at the meeting

HERBIESAN then laid out the new defensive policy
The enemy counter offensive must be delayed as long as possible, then when it came and the moment was right, a massive counter attack would be launched.
To this end, much propaganda, recon probing, and "KB drifting into an area" would take place, while the counter force was gathered over the next 2 months
The principle effort, it was decided , would be in the solomons.
Trial scenarios (UV GAME AGAINST WOBBLY) showed that as long as KB remained viable this was still a very realistic tactic deep into 43.

The Empires defence was then Brocken into 7 areas

AREA ONE
To include Burma,malaya,sumutra,thialand and Vietnam
Burma HQ
15th ARMY HQ
3rd AIR HQ
22nd AIR Flot
1st fleet
principle forces 55 div, 33 div, 3 mixed brigades and a brigade. These to be reinforced by 18 div and 5th div from the java campaign
Air defence would be the ARMY concern, NAVY concentrating on shipping strikes only
5 sally,2 lilly 2 or 3 oscar units to be deployed
3 bettie 1 zero to be deployed
naval forces to be built around the Yammato battle group
2 cves are enroute to provide some sort of CAP for the battleships
sufficient naval lift is available for a single division lift.
the battle plan centres around Akyab, at the moment totally untenable.
The enemy (it is hoped)will attempt a landing here, and will then be countered with a 3 division counter attack
there are no plans for major offensives on this front - 35 brigade is currently to try to flank mandalaby, but that is it

AREA TWO
Java, borneo,Phillipines
16th army HQ
11th air HQ
3rd air army HQ
3rd fleet
21 air flot
these areas are expected to be secure in 30 days time, after which most forces would be re deployed
56 Div would remain as reserve, with 56 brigade
Only light air forces and training sqs would be used
Commander of AREA TWO principle job is convoy protection, some 5 dedicated ASW groups to be given to him.
vastly increased ASW air assetts were also promised

AREA THREE
Northern Australia, Celebes, AMBONIA< SORONG triangle
25th army HQ
8th fleet HQ
38 div,21 div would remain on the defensive south of darwin
All helen Squadrons are to be the principle defence
Light naval forces and sufficient naval lift is to be provided for evacuation, in case the australians return in strength.
All agreed that this was the most dangerous to us attack route the enemy can take, bearing in mind that TARAKAN provides 75% of the oil we are getting
Max deployment of construction forces here was agreed upon

AREA FOUR
Solomons, Truk, Palua, Siapan
Southern fleet HQ
Combined Fleet HQ
2nd fleet HQ
14th army HQ
23rd air flot
Imperial guard
16th div
4th div
48th div
2nd div
52nd div

The imperial guard will go into reserve on siapan
4 divisions to the counter reserve at TRUK, with 1 division to be broken up into regiments and added to the screen defence under construction in the solomons
The desire to expand to nendindi and rennel islands was approved

the defence plan depends here entirely on the threat of KB
KB is returning to japan for refit/upgrade at the moment, must be in theatre by july1
4 fast BBs will be assigned to the theatre, and several CA counter attack TFs will be assigned
Army AIR will base in the PNG area, NAVY air will concentrate on the solomon chain
currently 6zero,4 betty,2 nell,2kate and 1 val units are assigned
Submarines will be used for naval search, picket lines as much as possible, and conserved.
Attacks on shipping lines are cancelled as non productive
The glenn subs are to get busy reconning various areas - as if a big attack is planned

Area4 commander expressed concern on the supply situation, and was told to do his belt up a notch, the look he gave the china commander was not beniffitting a man of his rank

AREA FIVE
Gilberts, wake, marcus islands
4th fleet HQ
6th fleet HQ
24th flot HQ

All agreed that the gilberts would only be used as an opportunity to inflict damage and delay the enemy.
All Naval guard units currently in the phillipines would eventually be given to this command
Commander 5 area was told his principle job was to give the combined fleet a chance at the american fleet - and to die dearly
He is to maintain the AK trip line to the east of japan

AREA SIX
china
All agreed this was a fiasco, and must become a passive front if at all possible
manchuria air was promised - but only when the nate units had uprated to something better

AREA seven
little can be done on this front, should the enemy make a move, we can only hope to have KB in the area at the time.
we do not however consider this font a threat.

The meeting concluded with a rejoiner that our main enemy is now the surprise attack, and that for the next 3 months at least, the enemy must be led to believe that a major thrust was planned by us.
In that time the DEI must be secured, the phillipines finished, shipping put in place, and the forts built.

The next meeting was scheduled for 1st of next month.

1275psi -> 8/5/42 (6/10/2005 12:34:44 AM)

[:(]8/5/42
troops continue to unload at kragean
2 pt boats try to interfere - the msw escort sees them off - 1 ap is torpedoed
A sub gets an AP southern java
Another in macassar straight - 3 aps lost today[:(]
42 B17s attack Pagan - 26 oscars intercept - only 6 B17s press the attack
I lost 1 oscar for 3 B17s, 25 damaged though - a fair result as I bounced him
Akyab a few bombs today
Continued bombing clarke
he continues bombing in China
B17s hit my recon unit at cape york
I deliberate attack at clarke- 0 to 1, forts down to 6, 1562 casos to his 1433
will rest 2 turns, then try again. disruption is climbing again badly

Spent most of the turn trying to begin to fullfill the imperial AREA DEFENCE PLAN,
moving, or planning to move the units required.
Have managed to disengage in China - hope it stays this way

1275psi -> RE: 8/5/42 (6/10/2005 12:47:14 AM)

Well in my UV game against wobbly, I encounter the horrible truth, where 300 crack planes - 80 experience encounter 22 corsairs, and I lost 190 to exactly 1[X(][X(][X(][X(][X(][X(][X(][X(]

There is nothing a japanese player can do with that sort of stuff - does experience count for anything?
grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
So I need to find out what works best against the corsair, and quick - [:D]
Run away perhaps?[:'(]
At kagean the 2 pts return, and meet 2 CAs, glub, glub - so react does work at times
Sent bali fighters into soerabaya, nasty flak, 5 lost for 1 hit
CL isuzu is torpedoed by soerabaya air - LRCAP was very tired - took it off for a day - and the enemy flew.
I really hate this - if I put up a LRCAP trap, or heavy CAP, and the opponent selects naval strike - why does the AI stop the flight because it detects the CAP?, Im sure Tabpub wanted to attack the ships last turn, and had no idea lots of fighters awaited.
grrrr
troops entered soerabaya at last, 3 divisions, 1 tank, 1 eng reg, 2 art, 1 hq, vs 6 dutch regiments, 2 gun battalions,7 base forces.

Im not going to get any oil out of this place iether am I, so I order the begging of the bombing campaign
At clarke 94000 troops vs his 46000, i wait one more turn before I attack again
Soerabaya, 83000 vs 27000 - and god knows how many forts and supply

Elsewhere supply and oil convoys are moving, and a few construction troops begin loading for new strog points I will try to develop.

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/11/2005 3:24:45 PM)

A terrible mistake today
The two old BBs headed to soerabaya were meant to turn around, meant to hace CAP, but I forgot I think
Soerabaya air puts 2 Torps into hyugo BB, Ise also scores 1, but is only scratched

0 to 1 at clarke- forts 6- 1300 to 308 casos - this is so frustrating!!!
0 to 1 at soerabaya- forts 9-1500 t0 1200 casos - its going to be tough
The call goes out for more engineers

11/5/42
a quiet day
I order all the naval guard units in the phillipines to disengage
the navy is being re organised

12/5/42
another day, 3 more APs go down, a real crud day
soerabaya air will not die!

13/5/42
a small island - ndini is taken south of lunga
soerabaya air is hitting APs everywhere as I try to get supplies to the front at Java, and more men

A final convoy route is worked out
Area commands are finalised
KB is at wake, next stop the marcus islands.
Its a grind these turns, lots of fun, but a grind as so much planning, organising goes into establishing things.

14/5/42
Time flies by
Hyugo docks at singapore- 46/58/0

15/5/42
A deliberate at clarke - 1 to 1 today, forts to 5, 1800 to 1200 casos.
maybe a light at the end of the tunnel yet

sacked a lot of commanders today

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/11/2005 3:36:51 PM)

15/5/42
Area one commander LTGEN Homma, Burma army commanding

Situation reprt no 1

The flight to rangoon was terrible, no saki at all

The situation is good, MAJ Mabuchi 15th army reports his units 23 mix, 4th mix and 35th brigade are in good shape
35th is trying to outflank mandalaby, and making 5 miles a day
2/35 - about 500 men are 60 miles north of akyab, as recon
here at rangoon 55 div, 33rd div are well rested

I remain hopeful that the enemy will try to cut of 2/35 and land troops at Akyab

1st fleet at singapore are confident - I am promised that naval lift is available there for my 2 divisions
3rd air HQ are very pleased, the bombing from the B17s has tapered right off - personally Im very worried the enemy is being allowed to grow unhindered.
2 lilly, 1 sally, 2 oscar and 1 nate unit is committed
3 betty, 1 zero are also in theatre
If 25th army would only get a move on and give me the 5th, and 18th div as promised, I could go on the offensive

navy says it plans to sweep the indian ocean soon
BB yammato is an impressive ship, but its only one ship, and its CVE escorts look like toys.
Still, the oil flows , i am led to belive that palembang is producing 42 units now - poor return for an entire front wanting for supplies it swallows every day.

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/11/2005 3:42:08 PM)

As required, AREA 2 commander, LTgen Itagaki reporting

sir,

the report on clarke continues, will soon complete
The enemy are dug in deep at sorabaya - further engineers are anroute

As discussed, a convoy route is now established.
I thankyou for the additional ASW assetts, the 2 sqs of Kates will be greatly appreciated
Convoys from Balikapapan, tarakan, brunie, miri, kendari, will meet at Tawi, tawi, then proceed to legaspi, then bonin island and home
return convoys will go via same route, and be distributed from jolo

i remain confident of securing the resource areas within 3 weeks

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/11/2005 3:47:43 PM)

Area 3, LTGEN Yamihita

sir,
as requested, monthly report.

Although I have the Australian command, ambonia command, I am stuck here outside of soerabaya, the enemy sinks my supplies, flies every day unchallenged, and is a right pain in the @#@@!SS

If area 1 asks for my divisions one more time I will not be responsible.

The darwin desert looks attractive compared to this hole.
The 2 divisions in my command (i am told) 38, 21, are dug in and confident.
Im more concerned about to their rear, and have ordered massive building to the north

But back to here - i await the 2 eng regiments before attacking, about 1 week.
I do not expect this place to be worth the effort once we capture it, if we are needing the oil

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/11/2005 3:55:31 PM)

area 4
Combined fleet
Area 4 remains very quiet, which i am grateful for
the fleet reorganises, i am concentrating all the fleet at Truk, currently only 2 BBs, but nearly all the CAs, and KB2( Hiyo, Junyo, shoho, zuiho and ryujo0
KB is enroute to Japan, for a well earned rest
I hope to have the 3 old BBs here by months end, and HIei and Kirishima also.

The two divisions from the phillipines are junked at the moment, 4th and 16th.
Air power is satisfactory.
Pilot skill, especially on the CVs, remains very good

Supply situation is terrible - truk has just 4000 tons, rabual 3000, port moresby 4000.
All bases are short.
Fuel
Fuel is short, very short, and because of it I am tied to here.

I hope you are right sir that the oil and fuel situation seems to have bottomend out!

the fleet remains confident
I pray the enemy does something stupid soon, and tries to attack before 1943

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/11/2005 4:00:48 PM)

Area 5 report

well old friend, i feel hung out like a target here.
2 zero sqs, 1 betty sq, a few miserable ASW assetts, and those useless subs to protect a 1000 square miles

If combined fleet does a runner, or lets me down, Im stuffed.
I replaced the tarwana commander, now VADM shimizu will probably have the honour of our graduating class to die first defending some useless rock.

Subs are about baker island, more to the south of tarwana, everything that flies is on naval search.
That promise of 60 or more zeros is appreciated - months end hey!?

PS
Send SAKI

RADM Htiekeyama, HQ 4th fleet

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/11/2005 4:02:07 PM)

General Homma, area 6 - china command reports

As ordered, all armies have disengaged in china, the front is quiet.
It will remain so until ordered.

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/11/2005 4:04:40 PM)

AREA 7
North front

Sir

All is quiet
My command, 3 minelaying subs, and the base units are quietly doing as ordered.
very little

No signs of the enemy
As discussed, i still believe the enemy, like us believe that this theatre is just too rugged for military operations.
Thus, I will not burden you with any material requests.

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/12/2005 3:21:48 AM)

Well as overall commander of the southern area , i was pleased, and not surprised at all with my area commander reports
i have asked for weekly reports, with the extent of the empire, Ill be lucky to get them on time

The major action today remains around java, where just a handful of beuforts cause chaos - sank 2 msw 's today, I can hear yamishita screaming from here[:'(]
Troops continue to unload at Kragean, engineers and the like.

Area 1, burma, and task force 123, BBs yamato, mutsu, nagato, and 2 cves with fighters are going to try for a raid on tricomalee.
Im concerned about lack of naval search, and where are the american CVs,? if they are in the indian ocean, it could be bad

KB is 3 or 4 days from home, lots of medals to give out
At clarke several units made an unscheduled attack today, 56 div is ordered to rejoin.
I ordered all the naval guard unitsfrom the phillipines back to japan, to finish filling out properly.

finally, I hope yamamatos strategy works
Army really let us down in the phillipines, I feel it is too late for any more adventures.
A last, last note - the lack of enemy air action in burma - intelligence suggests that the british are upgrading there planes, so maybe it is TF123's perfect opportunity.

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/15/2005 12:50:49 AM)

16/5/42
2 sub attacks today, both miss
Bombs fall on clarke, 109 hits
North cape aust recieved some bombs
North of pagan recieves bombs from me

At bali the cap fails for some reason, and a ASW group is hammered, 3 PGs sunk.
Clarke, some troops attack without orders, grrr.
A quiet day.

17/5/42
another day, another AP lost Im sure!
sub misses off tijilitjap
Kragean, a DD hits a mine
38 B17 attack pagan, intercepted by 48 oscar - who I put way higher, all bounce the enemy.
2 B17 lost, 26 damaged, 2 oscars lost

Nice result
14 beaforts attack akyab, and oscars intercept here too, shooting down 4
120 sallies hit clarke, and no flak is encountered at all.

29 B17s hit Ndindi, and boy, its a sub car park about this island as well

nells strafe a pt boat at soerabaya.
CL natori sinks at tarakan

TF123 is off Adaman island, fuelling
A unit comes out of the bush and blocks the road from rangoon - cheeky
I order a deliberate at clarke
Kragean is recieving troops, still more enroute, 3 zero sqs are trying to LRCAP

And the convoy route is working well.

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/15/2005 12:59:09 AM)

18/5/42
tabpub hints at a coming offensive - oh goody!
2 sub attacks today - both miss
hurricanes spotted mandalaby as his airforce returns to the base - in numbers it appears
clarke hit again.
that cheeky unit is hit

several APs hit at java today, this is very frustrating1

the deliberate at clarke gets 2 to 1, forts to 4
at last, progress

TF123 is approaching tricomalee, hopefully will remain undetected

Combined fleet is re organised at truk, into 4 CA divisions of 4 CA in each, a BB division, and KB2
KB 1 is home, and the crew given leave

19/5/42
Enemy admits to cracking in the phillipines.
I withdraw to japan all the naval guard units there, time to rebuild properly

TF123 is spotted in the bay of bengal
Forts to 3 at clarke, we lose 1000 men each day here, but so does he.

I order 5 sqs of transports to the south pacific, they begin the long flight from japan

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/15/2005 1:03:15 AM)

20/5/42

Clarke fell today
At last
Soerabaya the last reinforcements are landing, we can attack next week

TF123 is ordered to retire, cannot see any benifit to be gained here at the moment, I need some naval strike capacity here - CVL rhyujo? is due this month, so she can go there.

Today the AI formed a AO task force on me in singapore, and tried to sail it to bali - and I did not notice.
Soerabaya air smashes a valuable ao, and she will sink.
NOT HAPPY JAN!!!

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/15/2005 1:12:30 AM)

21/5/42
AREA ONE weekly report
LT GEN HOMMA reporting

A quiet week for area one command.
The enemy has blocked the road to the north of rangoon, only a handful of men, very annoying
I will need a Small unit to chase it of the road, sending a division would be stupid.
I have been ordered to to "put on a show", subsequently I have a mixed regiment trying to flank to the east, it has made 50 miles, and reports no resistance so far.
to the west of mandalaby, 33rd division will strike north from Pagan
I dont expect any success from any of this, but it will be a good "show"

the navy has retired from its deep sea fishing exped - pointless.
But at least my Akyab strike units still remain
navy shocked me as well, they have "lent" me at least 60 betties, and some zeros for a strike on mandalaby tomorrow - very pleasing.
navy is very nervous though.

I here clarke fell - soerabaya soon, then I can really feel secure here with some of those troops

finally, very very pleased to hear that 100 sallies are enroute - mandalaby will be turned into a crater.

1275psi -> RE: Herb VS Tabpub (6/15/2005 1:20:44 AM)

21/5/42
AREA TWO weekly report
LT GEN ITAGAKI reporting

As promised Clarke has fallen
As ordered by you, Bataan will be besieged - why take it and have so many mouths to feed?
Bataan will become a training bombing run for at least the next 3 months.
I acknowledge that this will deny manilla harbour to us, but that can wait.
As ordered, 16th army HQ, 2nd div, 8th tank 1st eng and various small units will remani in the phillipines

I release 54th, 48th,56th division to combined fleet
65th,and 56th brigade will be retained for mopping up ops in the phillipines
I retain 2 sally, and 1 lilly sq here, and release to area 1 all other army air assetts
I also release all naval air assetts to area 4

I am pleased to report that the convoy route is working very well - asw groups are fine, additional base forces on the route are enroute.
By next report, full air cover will be available.

Soerabaya will be attacked this week.

Area 2 remains confident of completing all assigned tasks.
