Trying to use your utility to plan IJ first turn utilizing Pry's Scen. 34 and AB's map. Utility doesn't want to show airbases or ports or resources/fuel/oil etc on map....The correct map appears... with no information on it...

EDIT: I have multiple installs.... AB"s map and Pry's Scen 34 are installed under C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific the original base game is installed under C:/Matrix Games/ War in the Pacific.

In the utility...under the tools option when i point the utility to the AB file I get the correct map but no information...If I point the utility to the original game in the War in the pacific folder it appears to function normally. ie. the original map appears with information on it...

The correct data appears in the side bar...just no visual representation on the map.

EDIT #2: Still exploring ...the utility seems to be working fine with AB's scen 116. Possibly Pry's Scen 34 is missing a necessary file?

Sounds like you don't quite have the paths correctly set. There are two paths under tools options: one for getting all the scenario files, pwhex.dat and the main SAVE folder (this path should be the main WitP folder) and one for the Map bitmap tiles (this should be the WitP ART folder). Note that Andrew's map mod uses a different pwhex.dat file and base locations may be different, so you probably need to do the following.

When using the utility for a game based on Andrew's map set the paths to
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific
and
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART

When using the utility for a game based on the original version, set the paths to
C:/Matrix Games/ War in the Pacific
and
C:/Matrix Games/ War in the Pacific/ART

This should work, if not I'm sure you'll let me know. [;)]

Note that the paths aren't currently saved for each game, only for the utility as a whole, so you'll have to swap them back when you change to a game based on the other version.

Not too sure. Can you give a listing of all the files in the utilities folder? Thanks.

I was aware of the path issue and have tried several variations all with no success for Pry's Scenario

When using the utility for a game based on Andrew's map I set the paths to
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific
and
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART.

Pry's scenario appears in the list. If I change the paths back to the original his scen is removed from the list...afaik this is working as designed. When I run a report based on Scen 34 the map appears but without all of the nice informational icons such as ports airbases and oil/resources etc.

AB's scen 116 comes up just fine with all of the nice map indicators I was looking for ...

Pry's does not. I have Pry's Scen installed at
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific/Scen

AB's map in v3b appears to be installed at
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART as well as
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART/maps_modified_v3

I have tried both locations in the path setting without success. I did notice that there is a pwhex.dat in these locations:

C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART/maps_modified_v3

Bodhi -> RE: WitP Utility - AB's Map and Pry Scen 34 (5/15/2005 11:04:28 PM)

Interesting. When I have some time I'll get Pry's scenario and have a look.

Drex -> RE: WitP Utility - AB's Map and Pry Scen 34 (5/15/2005 11:11:49 PM)

Well I got that problem solved and the map loads up but it is sized too large for my screen. How can I resize it?

KHawk -> RE: WitP Utility - AB's Map and Pry Scen 34 (5/16/2005 2:50:00 AM)

Drex,

Could you please explain how you got the base and airfield icons to work for Pry's scenarios. I am having the same problem with the icons.

Thanks,
KHawk

Drex -> RE: WitP Utility - AB's Map and Pry Scen 34 (5/16/2005 3:21:30 AM)

Sorry Khawk, I'm not playing Pry's Scenarios at the moment, just the stock scenario 15. I have some icons but maybe not all. I think I'm missing some. But the proper path seems to be the key.

Bodhi -> WitP Utility and Pry's New Scenarios (5/16/2005 3:45:15 AM)

treespider and KHawk,

Pry made this change in all his new scenarios:

"Removed all daily supply and fuel from West Coast bases and moved to United States base 330, supply will now have to trickle down to the coast from the supply center. Reduced total daily supply and fuel on to 30,000 supply and 20,000 a day each."

That's causing the problem. I've fixed it and the updated version (together with the addition of the option to display where your forces were spotted last move) should be available fairly soon.

Bodhi -> WitP Utility - resizing (5/16/2005 3:51:11 AM)

Standard way to resize is via the resize handle at the bottom right of the report form. However to make things easier for me when laying out the form, I started with the assumption that you'd be using 1024x768 resolution as that's what WitP uses. So although you can make the form larger in running WitP in windowed mode, you'll find there's a minimum size for the form set.

KHawk -> RE: WitP Utility - resizing (5/16/2005 4:49:59 AM)

Bodhi,

Thank you for your fast response and most of all thanks for all your time and effort.

KHawk

Are there issues when running Windows with a bigger DPI for fonts ?

Possibly. I did make some changes to accomodate larger fonts, but if you find any problems let me know the specifics and I'll take another look.

I've tried downloading your updated utility several times over the past few days and nothing happens. Is it actually available? I had no problem when I grabbed an earlier version.

Bodhi -> RE: WitP Utility (5/17/2005 2:27:08 PM)

Just tried downloading it now from the link in my signature without any problem.

Hartley -> RE: WitP Utility (5/18/2005 4:13:10 PM)

At 130 DPI, you can't see the tabs.

Bodhi -> RE: WitP Utility (5/19/2005 12:26:56 AM)

OK, seems like there are some issues with using large fonts. Once I finish adding things I may take a look again at the large font issue, but it probably won't be for a while.

Bodhi -> WitP Utility - 1.0.5 Available (28/05/2005) (5/28/2005 1:05:56 PM)

Available from here: WitP Utility v1.0.5

Here's the list of changes from 1.0.4

  • Added option to add memos to hexes on the map

  • Added option to display the hexes where the player's Task Forces were spotted by the opponent in the previous move

  • Added "<ALL>" options to ship class list for each class in the tracking reports so that all reports for a class can be viewed together

  • Altered colours of icons for tracked ships with red (J) and green (A) displaying location if previous day, yellow if tracked ship(s) at that location within the past week, and grey for known locations over one week old

  • Altered display of some short dates so that can now correctly order lists by date

  • Altered format of some of the tracking messages to improve clarity

  • Altered the default naval departure date to the current game date

  • Fixed problem with Pry's scenarios (30 to 35) not displaying the base supplies/fuel/oil/resources

Hex Memos: To add memos, make sure the map has the focus (you can click on it to be sure) and the cursor is over the desired hex, then press the F1 to open the add/edit memo window. To delete a memo if no longer need, put the mouse of the hex and press the F6 key. Display of hex memos can be toggled on/off on the Options - 2 tab. This tab also allows the user to select the colour of the memo text and background.

TF Spotted Hexes: Options -2 tab also contain the on/off toggle for displaying the hexes where your TFs were spotted by the enemy in the last move. A naval search plane icon is used to highlight the hex (red for TFs spotted by Japanese and green for Allies).

Work has just started on the next version, no ETA as yet.

CapAndGown -> RE: WitP Utility - 1.0.5 Available (28/05/2005) (5/29/2005 3:25:05 AM)

There doesn't seem to be anyway to get to the sightings reports. I appears as though you just have to scroll through the map looking for the airplane icons. Is this the only way to find all your ships that were sighted? Could this info be added to the ops screen?

All I save for the user's side is the fact that a TF was spotted in a particular hex. The program doesn't know which of your ships/TFs are in the hex, so it can't cross-reference them. It would be possible to get a listing of the hexes in which a TF was spotted, but I find it easier to use the map rather than a list of x,y hex values.

Details on sightings of your opponent's TFs are in the operations/intel/tracking output.

Under consideration are:

  • Arrows indicating direction/speed/size of spotted TFs

  • Tracking of base ownership and improvements

  • Executive daily summary

Any other things you think would be useful?

CapAndGown -> RE: WitP Utility - 1.0.5 Available (28/05/2005) (5/30/2005 4:01:59 AM)

Actually, I don't care what the other side's sighting report contains. All I want to know is that one of my TF's was spotted at hex x,y. I.E. "Friendly TF spotted at hex x,y". Then I would like to be able to click on this field the way you do with ops reports and go to the hex. Especially for keeping track of sighted subs this method would be easier, IMO, than scrolling through the map.
