LJN 27th-28th December 1941 Sub War little too close to home In Binocular view of San Francisco Bay, American Destroyers circled off the coast for several hours before sighting and destroying a Japanese submarine. [image]http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/WEBCUTTERS/PF63_U853_1.jpg[/image] The attack was witnessed by many civilians on the beach, who now fully appreciate the face that this is a "total war" and the efforts being made by the US Navy to protect American land. On the other side of the Pacific outside Osaka, the SS Snapper followed the lead of the Swordfish, firing its spread of Torpedos and then surfacing and attacking a AK ship outside Osaka harbour in plain sight of day with its deck gun and 50 cal. Another Japanese submarine was also sunk NE of Hawaii, the submarine was sighted by Catalinas on Christmas eve and a destroyer group was sent out to destroy. P-40E Continues to shine! [image]http://www.af.mil/media/photodb/web/020903-o-9999b-062.jpg[/image] The P-40E continues to battle hard against the "Supreior" Japanese Zero over the Philipines the past few days with great sucess, Three more A6M2's where destroyed over Luzon the past few days to an equal loss of P-40Es. This and the news of H.Mahony reportedly having scored his 5th Kill against the Japanese over the Christmas period, is more good news for the Strengthening Allies to build on. Halfway "Halfway" The 161st RCT has fully unloaded and is fully supplied on the island of Midway, as the Saratoga leaves the area. The operation is deemed "Halfway" completed and is penciled in to be completed sometime in the first week of January. The island will have to be subjected to a "concentrated" effort to disloge the 161st RCT from the island, Allied commanders commented. PS: Less pics of the actual game, for the next few days as my friend who is supplying the hosting for the bmp files is not going to be at his pc. So a bit of a "boring" phrase in the AAR for a few days or so, but i have just done the turn for 29-30th and its quiet a big'un lots of land combat! Ill post it after school tomorrow, its a job in itself, doing at least one turn a day and typing up this AAR [X(]

LJN 29th-30th December 1941 Japanese turned back at Clark [image]http://www.historyplace.com/unitedstates/pacificwar/2158.jpg[/image] American soldiers pursue Japanese at Clark 4 Divisions supported by ample armour,engineer and air support where "routed" this morning, with around 3,000 Japanese are beleive dead,injured or captured as of the 30th, with around 1,400 Allied casualties in return. Japanese tanks, which the Allied had feared would roll over there postions where easily destroyed by effective artillery and anti tank fire. [image]http://www.whitewasp.com/meh/Japanese%20turned%20back.bmp[/image] The Japanese assault started early in the morning, allied lookouts soon sounded the alarm, and thousands of Japanese infantry where caught out in the open and mowed down by supreior Machine gun fire from the American and Philipine dug in positions. The sound of small arms fire ranging from the "ching" of a M1 Garands magazine popping out, to the low brap of a Browning 30 cal filled the air raining down death upon the Japanese. Confusion filled the Japanese ranks as artillery shells landed around them, cover was scarce in the open fields around Clark airfield. Soon the Japanese sounded the retreat an hour or so later and this small part of the Philipines returned to peace for the time being... Around 20,000 Chinese have been captured,who saw no point of fighting to the end and there eventual deaths, although it is reported the Japanese conquerers are treating there new prisoners of war "appalingly", this is along with reports of other British and American prisoners of war being treated poorly. Fighting withdrawal continues [image]http://www.army.mod.uk/img/devonanddorset/History/ww2_1st_Dorsets_Mortars_in_acti.jpg[/image] Commonwelath soldiers prepare for attack "Hold em off as long as you can lads" Was the order being echoed by British officiers as the Japanese begun there advance on there positions, a suprislingly defensive and downbeat order espically from the British who where confident the Japanese could be driven back into the sea. But the CW soldiers performed admirably and managed to fight a fighting withdrawal for 4 days before, "falling back" to Johore Baru to meet with the bulk of the British army. If the Japanese push back the British here, then they will have there backs to the sea on Singapore island. Ps: Wont be any Orders phrases for a while, for two rasons 1: Not many out of the blue orders being given 2: Im getting behind with this AAR, i alwayse seem to be a turn or two behind. I will make sure to do my orders phrases,when i have caught up or if i do somthing important.

LJN 31st-1st January 1942 We wish a happy new year to all our readers Burma Beckons [image]http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/USA-C-Burma/img/USA-C-Burma-2.jpg[/image] Japanese advance on another front A Japanese probe was expected in the British colony of Burma then followed by a full assault once Singapore is captured, but it seems Allied command has underestimated the size of the Japanese army. Two full Divisions and a Brigade marched into Mouliem on New years eve and had ejected the two British brigades defending the airfield by the new year, the amount of troops seen in the Philipines and Malaya seemed to be the bulk of the army that Japan could move into the Pacific, but these two Divisions have caught British command off guard. A tactical withdrawal is being called to Mandalay, and a token resistance by a single brigade will be made at Rangoon. Deadlock at Clark No attacks where launched by eiether side at Clark field over the new year period, the Japanese are still reorganising there scattered ranks and licking there wounds, while the Americans improve there defenses and dig in deeper. The Japanese do however launch the odd ferocious artilley barrage the way of the Allies, these attacks last as long as two hours sometimes, while the Allied defenses are good they are only temporary, a foxhole with some branches and leafs over it is not suitable protection to Artillery shells raining from up high. Around 300 America and Philipino troops are comfirmed dead, wounded or missing over the past two days. Other news B-17 raid hits AP in Hong Kong port Manilla fighters decimated by Zeros Luzon northern coast secured by Japanese paratroopers Biak island taken by Paratroopers PS:Quiet days are good days. I should be able to get a orders phrase up for the 2-3 unless Gilles sends me a turn and i cant resist to send him it back, which i doubt it. I will also do a tactical summary showing pictures of all the active theatres, some intel screens and my long term stratergy for 1942.

Orders phrase West Coast Convoys head out to various locations around the south/central pacific. Central Pacific Submarines that where around pearl harbour hunting for the Kido Butai are now headed to the Japanese south pacific, namely Truk. South Pacific "Replenished tf at sea" for the Lexington taskforce, now has enough fuel to make it to Brisbane, which is where it is now headed, Enterprise is legless until fuel convoys arrive. Australia 1st Aussie bridgade has been switched to south pacific command, and is being loaded onto aps headed for Port Moresby. [image]http://www.whitewasp.com/meh/1st%20Aussie%20to%20Port%20Moresby.bmp[/image] DEI Batavia has ample aviation support after sucking the aviation groups from Sumatra, to where there needed, here in Java. India Planes that evacuated to Andaman island, then where shipped out to Colombo are in a pleasing shape,its nice to see my evacuation paying off, the Four squadrons i evaced are nearly full strength, and will harrass the Japanese another day.

LJN 2nd-3rd January 1942 Second assault at Clark [image]http://homepage.eircom.net/~steven/images/JapaneseInfantryPassSovietTankManchuria1939.jpg[/image] Japanese move forward On the end of a ferocious artillery barrage lasting hours cries of "Banzai" and countless other screamed cries and soon thousands of Japanese infantry climbed from there trenches and foxholes and charged the American positions with amazing speed and ferocity. Gone was the Japanese soldier who a few days ago was only running for cover, the Japanese charged at the American positions in a World War one fashion. Scores of Japanese fell, sprayed down by Machine gun and rifle fire, many more than had the last assualt, but the Japanese did not falter and continued to charge with the same determination as before soon engineers reached the first line of defences, blowing holes in the Americans barbed wire and other obsticales with explosives. The Japanese soon broke through to the Americans first line of defences, and soon indivual 30 cal nests where overun, spraying down as many japs as possible before pulling out there pistols but eventually being ovverun by the Japanese, who are reported to have uses there bayonets to fight the Americans, savagely goring the soldiers on the receiving end. It was the Amercians this time who ordered the retreat, to the next line of defences, the Japanese did not persue...this time. Around 3,000 casulaties where suffered on each side in a bloody battle. Seige of Yenen A second Chinese city was encirled in a rapid Japanese advance in China,Chinese soldiers have been not been able to do very much to prevent these encirclements, due to a servere lack of supplies and food leading to starvation amongst soldiers. The Japanese did a small probe into the Communist city with very little resistance given, it is expected the main line of Chinese defences are deeper in the city. Other days B-17 hits another AP in Hong Kong port Japanese landings at Dadjangras, opposed by Costal guns, Jap destroyer set alight. Orders Phrase For the 4-5th of January 1941 West Coast The near unlimtied Supplies and Fuel of the American economy is a nice luxury for a normally Japanese player, and today this major advantage over the Japanese is being shipped to the front. The convoys are as follows. 50,000+ Supples and Fuel to Pearl Harbour 42th BG B26s and Supplies and Fuel to Noumea Supplies and fuel to Suva. Might be a odd few ive missed, but my friend is still away and i cant host the pictures here to show. Central Pacific Supplies finished unloading at Midway, Ak convoy is now headed back to Pearl Harbour. Few more tons of Fuel yet to be unloaded. Midway is now one of the Allies major submarine ports, the port is also being upgraded to level 2. 18th Flight group, aka the Pearl Harbour elites a P-40B squadron with the two Allied aces in them, are headed to there new homebase, Noumea a lone AK escorted by the Destroyer Cummings is taking the long way around Canton then across to Noumea, this Fighter group should siginificantly strengthen the base, along with the 2nd USMC div, which is prepping to be sent there. South Pacific Ive rather embrassedly rerouted the Lexington to Noumea, as i check up on the taskforce and found Endurance running low, turns out they had enough fuel to reach Brisbane but not enough Endurance, the CV will remain here until fuel is shipped out to. Worringy if the KB and the IJN doesnt stop its agression in the South pacific at Canton. More Aviation support is also needed in the South pacific, the allies get a massive reinforcement surge in nine days including the Yorktown, but more importantly handfuls of Engineers which will be sent to Fiji/Noumea asap to support ground air forces there. Dutch East Indies American intelligence has cracked more Japanese codes, this time somthing more expected and less shocking, 91st Naval guard unit is prepping for an invasion of Java and will land at Soerbaja, the real question is whether the Japanese will land in force at this base, or is it one of many Landing beaches, i have sent a few units from other parts of Java to march to Soerbaja to reinforce the defences, fort levels are being built also. [image]http://www.whitewasp.com/meh/21%20Incher.bmp[/image] Highlight of the day The early days of 1942 have been relatively quiet across the pacific, apart from the savage fighting at Clark very little has occured across the pacific, for this reason the news for today will be given in a shorten style, and a overview of a month at war will be given along with orders phrases. The news in brief Army bombers turn to Singapore, damage to AP's. Japanese hold at Clark Banga island, lamon bay and tuergaro taken with no resisitance by Japanese paras. SS S-34 hits Hirowkawa Maru SS Seawolf is heavily damaged by DC's SS S-34 Hit by DC, but hits Canton Maru SS Tautog attacks AK Durban Maru, gets two torpedo hits and attacks with 50 cal and deck guns. Orders Phrase For the 6-7th January 1942 Dutch East Indies 93rd BS 16 B-17s have been given orders for a 20,000 foot bombing raid on kuching port, Destroyers and Cas have been spotted, could be somthing juicy [:'(] The hermes has docked in Tiliyapt overnight, refuled and i now send it to Malang, where it will stay on stand by ready to raid any unguarded bombardment taskforce, or invasion taskforce. Australia Beauforts at Brisbane are being shipped up and send to Port moresby along with the 1st aussie brigade, should significantly strengthen PM from attack. Malaya I have sent 27th Australian bridage back to Johare Bahru so it is not cut off from Singapore whent Bahru folds, i predict Singa will fall, Mid January to Late January, the extra forces he has thrown into here will give him a quicker than historical result. Philipines Submarines Spearfish and Sargo are headed to Sdyney for repairs, after taking light damage inflicted by Depth Charges. The Battle of Yenen has been one of the bloodiest yet one of the shortest land battles of the war, 14,000 Japanese and 34,000 Chinese soldiers are calulated dead,wounded or captured. [image]http://www.whitewasp.com/meh/Japs%20owned%20at%20Yenen.jpg[/image] The Japanese advance in China has been worryingly quick for Allied commanders, the country could be cut in two if the Japanese army marches and captures the capital Chunking, a weaker "pacificed" China would mean Japan could possibly release Divisions from this front, into the Pacific theatre. Some parts of the American defense did have to fall back due to relentless pressue being put on there position, the defences at Clark are still in a good position to hold the Japanese for many days to come though. Every day that can be gained defending these islands, is a day stronger the allies grow, Japan is fighting on borrowed time until the economic and industrial might of America, Britain and hopefully eventually Russia can be brought to bare on Japan. British victory at Johore [image]http://www.interet-general.info/IMG/guadalcanal7.jpg[/image] The Japanese did not waste any time in hastily charging the British defences north of Singapore island at Johore Bahru, the Japanese received a nasty shock. The British where a lot more well dug in a prepared than the Japanese expected, and in a repeat of the initial contact at Clark field, the Japanese's over eagerness to engage the enemy on sight and presuming there victory is assured has cost them precious time and soldiers. 2,600 Japanese where wounded or killed in the attack, compared to exetremly low British losses. Orders Phrase Central Pacific New orders for the Carrier Saratoga, after resting to port for a while after the Halfway operation, it will upgrade to F4F-4 Wildcat fighters, when the supplies at Pearl Harbour are available, then escort the remaining Pearl Harbour Battleships to the West coast, incase he tried any more KB raids, this is unlikely, but i wouldnt be able to sleep at night if he did manage to. It will then meet with the Yorktown, which arrives to 5 days and form our second carrier taskforce. South Pacific The fuel convoy that unloaded part of its fuel at Palymira, is now unloading the rest of its cargo at Suva, the Enterprise will take this fuel and sit tight, as i anticipate more Japanese attacks in the South pacific. China With Yenen and Ichang fallen, and his troops at Ichang marching in the direction of Chunnking, i cannot risk giving him 3000 points that the city gives to easily, for this reason, i have sent all troops at Kunming a relatively out of the way base to the city.

One Month at War Situation report The Philippines [image]http://www.whitewasp.com/meh/Philipines%20as%20of%20one%20month.bmp[/image] The Philippines after one month Not much going on all forces in Luzon have moved up to Clark to hold the Japanese for as long as possible, i have a small garrision in Manilla so he doesnt try anything cheeky with his paratroopers. Mindanao is all but gone, only thing that is lengethening its fall is the time it takes Japanese soldiers to march to the next base. Most planes are now evacuated from the P.I to the DEI, more specifically Java, and of course the Navy is long gone. Malaya [image]http://www.whitewasp.com/meh/Malaya%20after%20one%20month%20of%20war%20copy.bmp[/image] Pretty much the same here, all available forces converging on Johore, once again ive left a couple of Malaya divisons in Singa so no paratroop action. The Raf has fled to DEI and Burma/India, with good sucess, i have several now fully replenished squadrons in India ready to fight another day. The RN fled sucesfully, only to be hunted down by the IJN in the battle of Java sea, most of the RN that started in Singa is damaged to varying levels, and are steaming to eiether Karachi or Sydney to be repaired. The DEI [image]http://www.whitewasp.com/meh/DEI%20as%20of%20one%20month%20copy.bmp[/image] The DEI is relatively untouched, apart from northern Borneo and Bangka island, he will make his move soon though, he has sent many bombardment groups around southern borneo, i reckon this will be where he strikes next. If he does without any visible air suppot, i will move in with the Hermes for a few hit and run raids, i will also use the remaining surface combat groups i have, although the largest ship i have in these groups is the CA Houston, wont stand up to his BB's or his CA's for that matter. The airforce is large, in java he will now have to make a concentrated effort to take the island, i have many good naval bombers including the Beautfort Xiic or somthing lol, and B-17s which can be a pain. I am sucking base and garrison forces from places like Sumatra and Sulawesi, to reinforce the coast, i need to place some kind of garssion force at Kragen, it is the only unguarded base. He hasnt taken Palembang yet, but i dont plan to reinforce it, not yet anyway, not until im happy that ive reinforced Java. China [image]http://www.whitewasp.com/meh/War%20in%20China%20copy.bmp[/image] China worries me, i saw his encirclements at Ichang and Yenen coming a mile off, but my orders for Chinese soldiers to go around the back of the cities to guard a escape route, have fallen on deaf ears, i dont know whether this is because of a lack of supplies, or some wierd bug, but several times i have ordered them to move, and they have not. Anyway, as u can see on the picture, he is most probably going straight for Chunking, 3000 points i cant afford to give him to easily, as i said in my last orders phrase, i am shufflingly around Chinese troops in the west to march to and around the city, to prevent any encirclements. Chinese bombers are having some sucess in hitting Hong kong port, they will not hit Shanghai next turn. Not much i can do here...hes really put me on the back foot with his encirclements. LJN 8-9th January 1942 Seige of Rangoon begins [image]http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/japan/Type95-Burma.jpg[/image] Japanese tanks north of Rangoon The Japanese's speedy advance in British Burma has taken them into the important town of Rangoon, in the south east part of the country, the town is not expected to hold out long, as British high command has deemed that the city is not a good defensive position due to its location, any troops based there would eventually be lost and destroyed forever. For this reason only a small deatachment has been placed in the town, there will simply try and hold the town for a few days. Saratoga equipped with new Fighters [image]http://www.todo-aviones.com.ar/usa/wildcat/f4f4.jpg[/image] Fighter pilots test drive the new navy fighter The fighter pilots of the CV Saratoga awoke this morning in the quiet hawaii port of Pearl Harbour, with new toys to play with the F4F-4 Grumman Wildcat, the newer version of the F4F-3 is the latest carrier fighter in the US Navy, and plans to upgrade all Carrier fighter groups to this improved plane are underway. How this fighter will hold up against the A6M2 remains to be seen. LJN 10-11th January 1942 Port Moresby Reinforced [image]http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/USA-P-Strategy/img/USA-P-Strategy-83.jpg[/image] The 1st Australian brigade has begun unloading along with a eight plane squadron of Beautforts in an effort to reinforce the vital base that is needed to help maitain the America-Australia defensive line. "The base is a vital link in the defensive line along with, Noumea,Fiji and of course Pearl Harbour. All these bases must be reinfored a lot over the coming months, to stop the Japanese onslaught" A high ranking Australian general commented. The base is expected to receive many more reinforcements when they become available. Orders phrase For the 12-13th January 1942 West Coast I will send two big important units to the Noumea on new calendonia when a Destroyer escort can be provided after the big reinforcement surge i will receive in the next few days. The 2nd USMC Division is already being loaded upon transports and will set sail, when i can assign a destroyer escort to it. [image]http://www.whitewasp.com/meh/2nd%20USMC%20Division%20to%20%20Noumea.jpg[/image] And the 101st USN Base force, will also head to the base to provide sufficient aviation support and support to the vital base, which i hope will eventually be the staging point for any offensive into the Solomons/South pacific. Central Pacific Crusier new orleans and Miniepolis, formerly hiding around the Line islands, is now headed to the Noumea/Fiji area. Burma/India A section of the AVG that was station in Rangoon, has flown out to Calcutta, as the base is expected to fall as soon as the Japanese attack here. Reinforcement surge is near, will give me a New carrier, few destroyers and subs and loads of AK/AP ships, which should help a lot my ability to ship supplies/fuel/men to the Pacific and resist the Japanese. LJN 12-13th January 1942 Japanese close in on Chunking [image]http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/japan/Jap-Type95-HaGo.jpg[/image] The Japanese are closing in on Chunking and there is very little to stop them bringing the battle to the capital city, the Chinese are scrambling into positions in Chunking and around the town, to try and prevent the Japanese trying another hasty encirclement like they have at Ichang and Yenen. However, the Japanese are moving rapidly, they are well supplied and supported are closing in on the city fast, and a quick encirclement could well be possible. Dated Chinese aircraft are interdicting the Japanese advance the best they can, with limited sucess. [image]http://www.whitewasp.com/meh/Chunking.bmp[/image] Allied sub war takes a knock Two allied Submarines the S-34 and the Nautilus have been sunk in the war for the pacific. S-34 was attacked by Japanese ASW off the northern coast of Luzon, and took several hits by Depth Charges, and soon sunk with water flooding through the wrecked hull. The Nautilus has been previously hit by Japanese ASW a few days prior, and was already critical on its way back to Pearl Harbour, it also sucummed to Flood damage half way imbeteewn Kawajlien and Pearl Harbour. Other news Butuan falls Japanese paras take Aitape in New Ginuea. PS: More relatively quiet days [:)]

Orders phrase For the 14-15th January 1942 West Coast Dunno why, but i forgot to mention the allied reinforcement surge in my news, but anyway. The CV Yorktown has finally arrived, along with bucket loads of AK's and such a such. The Yorktown will group up with the Saratoga, currently escourting the two Pearl Harbour BB's to the west coast, and will create Carrier Division 2. Carrier Division 1 has already been created, consisting of the Lexington and Enterprise. Central Pacific Ive created a fuel convoy at Pearl Harbour, as the place is rolling in the stuff, which will head out to Noumea, Fiji is well stocked with fuel and supplies and will be even more so when the convoys i sent out in the new year arrive. But Noumea will still be short on Fuel, this tf will adress that. South Pacific My recon and intelligence has spotted a rather large build up at Tarawa atoll. [image]http://www.whitewasp.com/meh/Tarawa.bmp[/image] 13 Units have been sighted, and my signit reports, often speak of aviation and base units being sent to the island, whether he is simply constructing a strong defensive perimiter while the KB goes to the DEI, whether he hopes to quickly improve the airfield and ports there. Or it is being used as a staging point for another south pacific invasion, time will tell...

I had the same problem you are having, as a result I ended up loosing the whole China against Gen.Hopner (GH). It's not a bug, it's just an incredibly stupid system (don't get me wrong I LOVE WitP, but there are a few things that really suck). Once you are in a contested hex (ie. Ichang) any movement order you give that does not have as destination a friendly base is ignored. Hence to retreat you MUST select (as destination) a friendly base to which you have a free path. If you tried with a nearby hex (as I did) you are screwed. Bear also in mind that the auto path system will always go around enemy helded hexes. You can see those pressing 'w'. So if you want to move from Sian to Chunking, but a Jap unit as been previously on a railway hex, you have to move hex by hex, or your troops will go into the field to avoid the previuosly enemy owned hex. It's a bit difficult to explain becasue it's not logic. I hope you understood. It's critical in the China war. A few ideas. Use the dutch air transport to carry supplies to China from India. You need them. Akyab is vital, move as many aviation support points you can there, till you have some control over the skies. There's no need to transfer by ships your Dutch air units to India, all those that have at least 4 hexes of range can fly there. The others you can evac them to Darwin through Bali, Macassar and Lautern. I would not carry any additional troop to PM until you feel confident you can actually holding it. Otherwise they are just lost. One Nz brigade is definitely not enough to hold. The Japs are going to commit seriously to get PM. Let them have it. You'll get it back after summer '42. No way to stop your B-17s at Cooktown and Cairns. Last suggestion (I'm kind of verbose [;)]): don't EVER send you carriers alone. Unless you get real lucky (like at Canton), the risk is VERY high. I'm talking from experience [:(], ask GH. Hold on, don't let the Japs take Chunking. Get there yourself if you have to [:D] Keep up with the excellent AAR. It's real cool.

Cheers mc All your points are valid and very well accepted, a vital battle is about to take place at Chunking, that is for sure. Port Moresby, i placed the aussie brigade there to prevent any smash and grab invasions to capture the base without too much effort, with that aussie brigde he may have to use a Division size unit, a size unit he cannot spare as long as the Philipines Malaya and DEI stands. But all great points, i took a big risk attacking his invasion taskforce with the enterprise, but looking back i am confident i made the right decision, but none the less was very lucky. My only real victory over the Japanese, has been my submarine war, i look forward to later 42/43 when my subs become fully deadly and i can really scale a full scale sub war. Thy have already been extremely successful.

I wouldn't count too much on PI and DEI to keep the Japs busy. Let me explain better. Gilles seems to be a skilled opponent. Hence he knows that you basically have no way to reiforce those locations, the worst that can happen is a higher fortification level, not that relevant. He should also know however that PM is, on the contrary, within your range and capacity to be fortified by February already. Therefore he might delay the action in those areas were you 'are not going anywhere' andyou can only await you written fate, and divert a couple of divisions (if not more) to PM and the Solomons. I usually do that and it works [;)] Of course if you can place a couple of divs it'd be a completely different story. The odds of holding increase very seriously. I do however understand your delaying tactic, This way is is forced to commit and that can buy you some more time. Keep it up. Once again: your layout and reporting rocks! [8D]

LJN 14-15th January 1942 Rangoon falls [image]http://www.s1942.org.sg/images/photographs/133048.jpg[/image] Thousands of brits march into captivity Thousands of British servicemen have surrendered, after there limited defence of Rangoon crumbled in the face of overwhelming odds, with Japanese streaming past and through there defensive positions the British commander of the city soon surrendered, and the city was surrendered away to the Japanese a few hours ago. The delaying defence has given British Far east command a few extra days in which to assemble its forces at the next defensive point, Mandalay. More Bloodshed at Clark [image]http://home.wanadoo.nl/cclinks/abtf/ww2-5.jpg[/image] Japan moves onwards The Japanese once again attacked at dawn at Clark field, triggering savage foxhole to foxhole fighting for serveral hours, with many casulaties suffered on each side. At the end of the assault the Japanese had once again breached the Americans perimeter in several places, causing the yanks to abandon many important defensive positions,USAFFE command has acknowledged this slow whittling down of the defenses, and has ordered a tactical withdrawal by some units to Manilla, where the last stand will be made. The idea is for a strong holding force to hold the Japanese at Bay at Clark field, while a small amount of Allied troops leave clark for Manilla, so when Clark does inevitabely fall Manilla will be able to hold out for a few more vital weeks. Johore Baharu holds The British have performed "splendidly" over the past two days, in there heroic defense of Johore Baharu, the last fortress before Singapore itself. Even when they outnumber the British by 3-1, enjoy total air supreiority and are supposedly supreior to the British, the Japanese are finding it tough to remove the British from Johore. Saratoga avoids diaster The Saratoga came close to possible diaster today, when the taskforce came under attack by a Japanese submarine the I-18, the submarine unexplainably decided to attack the destroyer Talbot instead, hitting her with 2 torpedos causing it to sink immediately. The other escorting destroyers managed to engage the submarine, and hit it with two Depth charges. PS:More of the same, relatively quiet action, the 16-17th is much the same :I

[image]http://www.subnet.com/images/boats/209.jpg[/image] SS-Truant Singapore's 15 inch anti Naval guns are famed the world over for making the base impregneable from the sea and guarding the front door to the Indian ocean.But over the past few days it has become clear that this fortress has been caught napping....by a group of Tankers. The taskforce is beleived to be heading to Rangoon, to load oil and fuel from the formerly british owned base.With this massive secruity breech, British command can only be pleased that the taskforce didnt come to the Indian ocean with more agressive intentions. LJN 18-19th January 1942 Johore Bharu crumbles [image]http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/History/1940s/Mukund/Bren-Gunner.jpg[/image] Mortar regiment fires, as covered by a Bren Johore Bharu the last line of defense before singapore itself is expected to fall "anyday now", with the British caught in a constant retreat for the past few hours,as the Japanese consistantly overrun there hastily prepared positions. Over the past few days the British have retreated some 15 miles, if they where required to fall back again, it could send them fleeing into Singapore which has not yet been declared an open city as of yet, it is expected that the British will try and put up a limited defence here, without causing to much collateral damage to the city. When Singapore falls the Japanese will have many Divisions and brigades released to assualt, Burma, the DEI or with suitable Naval support India. Other news MSW Wa 6 sunk off Japan by American sub Tanker connecticuit hit by Japanese submarine off Fiji, but no damage :S

Orders phrase For the 20th-21st West coast In my requirement for more aviation support in the south pacific i am loading up the 51st Base force at san francisco to go to Suva,Fiji, this unti will give Suva ample aviation support for any future air groups i hope to place there. 2nd USMC Is also planned for Suva, when transports arrive at San franciso. South Pacific 18th Flightgroup has begun unloading at Fiji, this is the P-40B group with the two aces, i have set them to 100 cap for when and if the Japanese come, the south pacific looks a lot stronger than it did two months ago at the outbreak of war. I am also considering a Carrier raid somewhere in the pacific, by one of my Carrier Division groups, im thinking Canton/Baker/Wake. I will seriously plan for one of these when the Kido Butai is spotted somewhere esle, my only worry is that a few of his betties stationed at this bases may slip through my cap net and hit one of my carriers a long way from home. For this reason im leaning towards Wake, but then last night i had a dream (Sad i know) about a American doolittle style raid on Japan itself. Now im not talking, Tokyo via Kwajalien and the Marinas, i was thinking Onimato in North East Honshu, quiet base, no planes spotted there, a strike there could hurt his industry a tiny bit, catch some dated planes on the ground and maybe hit some destroyers and merchant ships in port. This would exact some revenge for Pearl Harbour hitting the Japanese right in the pants where they least expect it and cause him some embrassement, and more importantly cause him some paranoia, a nasty attribute to have when playing Japan. We all know the Doolittle raid provoked the Japanese to go to Midway, im not asking for a result like that, but maybe my raid could pull away some of his recources from the front line to defending the home islands. Two carriers leaving port at Midway escourted by a replenishment TF heads NE Hits Onimato for 2 days, then falls back full speed to one of the Aleutian islands then back to Pearl? Hey LittleJoe, I think you could pull it off. But - again - it is VERY risky. [X(] However he is probably not expecting it, as long as you have surprise you can do it. Watch VERY carefully the spotting phase, once you are spotted you have at max one turn before heading back home at full speed. Make sure your TF max speed is 6 (hexes), at 5 you could be catched by his carriers. If you have to run, ground all the planes but the fighters, to save on operation points and run faster [;)]. Place a replanishment TF on the escape route, it wouldn't be nice to find your tanks empty [:)]. It could also make sense to send a decoy TF made up of a few damaged AKs in roughly the same direction, but some hundreds of miles away. Maybe in advance, to see how he reacts. It's just an idea. Good lick.

Yeah i was thinking sending Ak's there, the plan is so random that even i didnt think about it when thinking about raids, i only dreamt of hitting the area when i saw it in my vision. Im pretty sure his KB is eiether in the south pacific, or headed to the DEI. Closest any of his carriers are gonna be to my attack, is if any are in Tokyo/Maizuru port getting fixed up, even then ill escape easily. I doubt this carriers would be wandering around the Kurlies for no reason. Ill pencil this in for the coming months.

LJN 20-21st January 1942 Japanese breakthrough to Singapore [image]http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/History/1940s/Mukund/CrossingRiver.jpg[/image] Commonwealth troops fall back The Japanese have once again surprised there British counterparts with a lightning fast tank assault in the early hours of the morning of the 20th,the British with no armour or anti tank assets of there own in Malaya presuming that any kind of Armoured vehicle would not be efficient in the jungles of Malaya, the Japanese light tank the "Ha-Go" has proven these critics wrong, as they stormed through British prepared lines already weakened by previous Japanese attacks. Reports from the front indicated Japanese tanks using almost "blitzkrieg" tactics as previously used by the Germans in France, north Africa and most recently Russia, simply rolling through the British blasting anything that got in the way, there was little the British could do either way, with grenades and the odd landmine only knocking out a couple of tanks. The Japanese armoured coloum,although causing little damage to the British soldiers, forced them to retreat as news filtered through that the Japanese had reached the river and where constructing pontoon bridges to cross into Singapore, a general retreat was called and thousands of tired, injured and dying commonwealth soldiers fell back, for the final time. CV-1 hit by sub [image]http://img248.echo.cx/img248/1130/avlangley5ms.jpg[/image] Langley hit CV-1 now know as the "AV Langley" was subjected to a submarine attack as it was docked in port outside the important java base of Soerbaja. The ancient aircraft carrier, must of looked an attractive target to a Japanese sub crew,who have caused moderate damage to the now seaplane tender, the ship has moved into Soerbaja port itself to repair fire and flood damage that are damaging the ship. Other news Invasion fleet sighted consisting of BB's and Cruisers headed for Tarakan, Dutch/Yank subs closing in around the base. Japanese MSW sunk NW of Kwajalien

Hi, Excellent AAR. One thing Submarines cannot attack ships docked in size 3 or larger ports. In order for Langely to have been attacked she would have to had been at sea or undocked. Are you certain she was docked? Did the TF arrive after the attack and so she was docked when you looked.
