I am writing in my diary that, in the event of my demise due to choking on food or drink while at the computer, you be investigated for involvement in some way and if found culpable, that you be sued for my wrongful death with the proceeds going to the following charities: the IWDAEWRFS (Idiots Who Drink And Eat While Reading Funny Sh*t), WiTP Widow's Fund and ZBWGAFFF! (Zero Bonus, Who Gives A Flying F*ck Fund!). The latter goes to reader's who suffer eyestrain trying to read all of the posts in those neverending threads which never resolve anything and resemble monkeys throwing feces at each other by the time they end.

I will say that I am glad that you are on our side, so I can read this stuff and contribute my little bit once in a while; Australia is really boring right now, I think I am going to joyride with Yossarian to Port Moresby on his next supply flight. I suspect that he is starting to fly to Milne Bay to do black market deals with the Yakuza; the odometer on his plane doesn't match the mileage to PM exactly.

Gen Marshall: Staff Sgt., I need to compose a letter to Adm. Theobald, North Pac.

Stenokowski: Yes Sir.

Gen Marshall: The poor SOB is stuck in a backwater command where the greatest threat seems to be rice paper balloons with firecrackers floating over from Japan. I'm afraid we may have stepped on his toes a bit when we shipped off some logistics boys from Pearl to the South Pacific who were nominally papered in for his command. I cant blame him for being a bit hot under the collar. Worse yet, he is in the Navy and doesnt have a single combat vessel under his command. This letter needs to have a soothing tone. Let me know if it doesnt.

Stenokowski: Yes sir

Gen Marshall: Right..so ususal formal salutation, then I want to address him by his first name, find out what it is and make sure you get the spelling right. If he uses a nickname among his navy peers use that but not if it is something too saccharine like "Skipper" or "Salty Dog".

Stenokowski: Understood.

Gen Marshall: Right, now the body..... I know too well the frustrations of administrative duties for a warrior. I often find myself longing to command a simple company of infantrymen, but we all must meet our duty. Mine is to sit at a rosewood desk in Washington. Yours, now, is to build up the logistical and support facilities at Anchorage and in the Aleutians while preserving a fighting edge among your forces despite the apparent idleness. I'm afraid I was remiss in not informing you of the diversion of logistical troops previously earmarked for your command. I can assure you the need is great in the South Pacific. Adm. Stark assures me it is his intention to base a strong submarine force in anchorage once we begin to interdict shipping near the Japanese Home Islands. That should be a very satisfying development, but, until then, I need you to sit on your thumbs.......<turns to SSgt. Stenokowski>...do you think that is too colloquial?

Stenokowski: No sir, it seems just right.

Gen Marshall: Great.....close with 'keep up the good work...sincerely...George Marshall' ...no rank

Wait a minute...there was a real ship in WWII called the Nip-i-gon [X(]

It is outrageous behaviour like that which lead to the PC pendulum swing in the 1980's.

BTW..this is the first kill for the Canadian Navy so far but RCAF Wellingtons have been persuading a few laborers on Baker Is to give their all for the emperor.

Thanks Alikchi, BTW.

Probably they are coming to pound Luganville or perhaps hoping to catch some juicy transports with lots of young GI's aboard. The extra range of the Coronados is worth the upgrade. These boys were spotted about 700 miles away from the nearest Allied airbase. Perhaps Chennault's presence amped up their performance.
