Another question on upcoming patch content.

Are there any plans to add a "disband" option for all units? I built some Diplomats with kick ass ratings but I'm still paying upkeep for the useless weasels that I got at the start. Also, the 89th Militia unit has disappointed me greatly and needs to be disbanded after a shameful furled-guidon march through their home town. The alternative is letting them starve to death and even I am not that vicious.

Ooooh that'd be fun, a 'disband unit' button in a game with no 'undo' feature... [:'(]

Personally, I'd just transfer their men into other units until they're automatically disbanded.

carnifex -> RE: Update Plans (7/15/2005 5:44:02 PM)

the devs mentioned adding an undo button for some functions

for a disband function, all you would need is an 'are you sure' prompt

also, you can't transfer men out of Diplomats

I just wish someone would flog the testers and get the current version to us already. ;-)

I think someone really wants to volunteer to join the testing team - how about it jchastain?

In the meantime, I am going to stop responding to questions on this forum, and play a game with the latest release of the beta-patch...

Actually, I did volunteer but it seems they have plenty of good testers. So I am trying to be patient, though I must confess that patience is rarely quoted as one of my strong points.

Patience is a virtue - but I just don't have the time. I'll talk to someone, or something.

Hanal -> RE: Update Plans (7/28/2005 2:36:17 AM)

No chance in fixing the minor countriy surrender issue?.....Namely the failure for all provinces to surrender when the capital is taken, resulting in the need to constantly redeclare war as you attempt to seige each of the surviving provinces cities....

Johnus -> RE: Update Plans (7/28/2005 2:41:08 AM)

Eric:

I assume and hope that the CTD's during detailed combat have been addressed??

Ralegh -> RE: Update Plans (7/28/2005 2:50:46 AM)

I agree with JP - the multi-province minors bug is a BIG DEAL, and IMHO worth holding the patch up for. Too many countries are effectively unplayable.

Johnnie - in the current version of the patch, I have played about 30 detailed battles over the last few days (yeah, I know, I should do work, but heck - whats the point of running your own company if you can't slope off to test your favorite game?). Only one CTD left (caused by displacing a Lancer unit, believe it or not - I still can't believe I found it!), and that one should be fixed in the final version of the patch. So hopefully we will be CTD free. [We just need to be careful that the last few changes didn't break something - thats what happened when these darn CTDs were introduced.]

[X(]Maybe it is related to the "Lancer build bug" i reported a few patches ago...

From the Patch List:

"Added no jiggle option for detailed combat (chit view only)"

Sorry to ask, must have been adressed before on the forum, but Whats the problem with the jiggle? Is it a multiplayer Problem?

Looks great, could you post a little info on the New AI behaviour in detailed battle? What problems did you identify and is it better now?

Added "option" ---- not a problem, just adding the option to switch it on/off in chit mode.

carnifex -> RE: Update Plans (7/28/2005 5:03:17 PM)

Can you hold the patch and add the fix for multi-province country behavior? This is really the biggest bug around and makes playing certain nations cumbersome at best. Like when I play Sweden I have to take Denmark, because without Denmark Sweden borders on extinction, so I go through a bunch of turns and then Denmark fails to be conquered correctly (last time Jutland couldn't be conquered, remained as Denmark, and forced auto-peace every turn), so now I reload the game from various turns hoping the problem will go away, and after several tries it doesn't - well I guess Sweden gets shelved and several hours of play down the drain.

I didn't know it was so pervasive. As Ralegh mentioned, this must have been broken in the last build of the game because we didn't have any problems like this in beta testing. Holding off 1.1 to fix this sounds reasonable -- if I can get a fix in the next day or two we may be able to finish testing it by Wednesday next week...

The jiggling of chits due to low morale in detailed combat was giving some people motion sickness. Not really a bug per se.

I made the AI a little less timid and... well, it's kind of hard to describe what the AI parameters due. Mostly a tweak of how it evaluates game states. I didn't spend a lot of time on the AI -- maybe one day. The priority for this patch was (1) save/load detailed combats and (2) fix the CTD's.

I believe I got even this one, Ralegh; I think it had to do with the number of flankers during a charge and caused a CTD because of a DIV0 error. Extremely hard to reproduce...I caught it only after giving up trying to reproduce it and staring at the code for several hours. (One needs the modified flanking bonus to be exactly 11 in order to reproduce the bug.)

I haven't managed to fix this yet; still trying to isolate the problem. If you have save games with this problem, feel free to zip them and send them to ericbabe@west-civ.com with a description of where the problem is.

carburo -> RE: Update Plans (7/28/2005 5:38:19 PM)

This is a minor problem, but I still have a question about the mixed order upgrade. Did you also fixed it? As was discussed in another thread, mixed order doesn’t work as described: currently you lose 25% of your inf firepower and get nothing in exchange. Have anyone ever seen the follow-up charge? If you didn't change it it's not worth having the upgrade, even for free.
Everything else looks very good. Only I would have liked to get the undo option. Next time?

I may have fixed the Mixed Order bug -- there may have been a problem with the move cost requirement, and I have eliminated this requirement.

Undo is scheduled for the next patch, provided it doesn't prove too problematic to implement right away.

Eric, Mr. Z has a save that demonstrates several problems with the North African minor nations. If you cannot get it from him, I can resend to you. I have a detailed list of steps that reproduce all the issues I've seen.

Yes, please do try to resend it--or post it here (you can send again to Eric, at admin@west-civ.com, among other addresses) I think Eric was unable to read the files or something.

le adder noir -> RE: Update Plans (7/29/2005 3:18:11 AM)

Hi all,

I don’t know if this has been discussed elsewhere apologies if it has, however im wondering if there are any plans (in a future patch) to allow the full range of diplomatic options to be used against minor countries.
From my Limited understanding of the game you can only subsidize the minor or declare war, I would have thought you could offer them an alliance or sign a rights of passage agreement, or even be able to offer them to be placed under protectorate.

Cheers Le Adder Noir

No, it was on our wish list (and still is), but we're not sure we'll ever get to it.

quote:

Well, they can become protectorates, but they ask you for that.

You don't need to ally with minors, the protectorate status is an alliance+.

Rights of passage are meaningless because you can violate the minor at will (this sentence is so wrong on so many levels).

If you give them enough love, you can ask them to become protectorate in the same right-click menu where you subsidize.

michaelwest777 -> RE: Update Plans (8/1/2005 11:19:46 PM)

Is the manual going to be updated everytime a rule / percentage change etc. occurs?

Erik Rutins -> RE: Update Plans (8/2/2005 12:00:03 AM)

No, but the readme file will. Also, we do plan on an eventual manual update.
