Terminus -> RE: Where's this? (4) (7/14/2005 4:20:22 PM)

It's part of the Google maps interface. The program places one to show you where the locations you've searched for are found.

Charbroiled -> RE: Where's this? (4) (7/14/2005 7:03:22 PM)

It looks like a bowl of Jello an ex-girlfriend once made....complete with the mold after sitting (untouched) in the refrig for two weeks.

I would have to go with Truk too, has it been decided yet?[8|]

Terminus -> RE: Where's this? (4) (7/14/2005 10:45:28 PM)

Well, WhoCares hasn't been around yet, so no... The location seems to fit, though.

Bradley7735 -> RE: Where's this? (4) (7/14/2005 10:49:42 PM)

yep. It's Truk.

This is the first "what's this" type thread that I've been able to guess.

I guessed before I saw all your responses. Then I checked the google map to see if we were right.

It's Truk.

Well, we'll just have to wait for the drum-roll to see Rainerle get official credit I guess.

WhoCares -> RE: Where's this? (4) (7/15/2005 10:37:26 AM)

Drum-roll:::::::::::::::::::

It's Chuuk.

Regarding the red pin, it marks the spot when you search by coordinates, Search: 7° N, 152° E (you might have to zoom out sometimes)

Wikipedia: Chuuk

PS: Concrats Rainerle [;)]

Speedysteve -> RE: Where's this? (4) (7/15/2005 2:21:35 PM)

Looks fairly small. If so can't se how they can 'house' a size 9 airfield there

WhoCares -> RE: Where's this? (4) (7/15/2005 3:13:24 PM)

I think they had actually multiple bases across the islands of the atoll. There were ~300 planes based there when the american CVs visited in
Operation Hailstone (1, Agano here?), Operation Hailstone (2), Operation Hailstone (3, german).

Speedysteve -> RE: Where's this? (4) (7/15/2005 3:18:10 PM)

Thanks.

So we have been mis-pronouncing it for years. It should be Chuuk NOT Truk!! [:D]

Terminus -> RE: Where's this? (4) (7/15/2005 3:33:24 PM)

Well, that's what the people who live there call it. Of course, when the Japanese were there, their opinions didn't count for much! [;)]

Speedysteve -> RE: Where's this? (4) (7/15/2005 3:44:34 PM)

LOL [:D]

Chuuk it is then [;)]
