i would say get the game. there is not a game out now anywhere near this game . they are tweaking it as we speak but its very playable and a heck of a lot of fun. many facets that become more clear with the amount of time you spend on it. its a nice mix thats not real difficult to learn, but quite a challenge to master , especially agaist humans. you will not be disappointed. i too find myself being very picky about what games to buy and with so many dogs out there sometimes you never really know untill you get the game if its good or not . believe me this is quality and craftsmanship i wished more games had. the guys that put this baby together have passion and it shows. support them with a purchase you will not be disappointed.

Ursa MAior -> RE: Should I buy Now, or wait (12/10/2005 9:06:30 PM)

Well, bad news. I am restricted in somputer usage because of symptoms of addiction (blame Uncommon Valor and Call of Duty 2 not me!), so the purchase is delayed by an undeterminded period, but definitely not cancelled ( I might get better you know). [sm=00000945.gif]

To be honest if I had it to do over again I would wait. There were just too many problems out of the box for me. The game is a work in progress and I'm hopeful the bugs will be squashed and a more polished manual will be produced. When that happens I'll give it another try.

If this is the Elmo from RTW we tend to think alike so I'm more interested in your comments and concerns. How many AI difficulty settings are there? How easy is the AI exploitable or still exploitable since I know it was exploitable from the first release? Is it better than the RTW battle AI? How bad are the bugs? Still any CTD issues? Does the game ever appear to bog down later in the game from memory leak? Does the AI remember what it was doing after you save the game and come back to it later? (A major issue with RTW). Anything else you can voice your opinion about the game I would appreciate. I tend to like to listen to those that find issues with games instead of those that put on the fanboy suits and don't really tell all like it is. ... Thanks

ravinhood, maybe you should ask these questions again in your own thread so they get noticed. I would really like to know the answers to your questions as well.

TexHorns -> RE: Should I buy Now, or wait (12/16/2005 7:36:21 PM)

Well I'll try and address some of your questions, although by your definition I'm probably a "fan boy". I played RTW quite a bit when it first came out. In fact I have posted in another thread how much I enjoyed Medival TW and was very disappointed in RTW. The AI in COG feels much more competent than that in RTW. I have seen the AI in COG do some neat things at both the strategic and tactical levels. The AI has also improved with each beta patch. I started a game in 1792 and am now in 1801 and have not seen any degredation of the AI. Although Eric is still working on some bugs, this game had fewer bugs than any game I've bought in a long time. And Eric has addressed the bugs by fixing in the patches. At 1.216 I haven't noticed many bugs. The protectorate bug is the one I've noticed the most. In COG you can save on either the strategic or the tactical map. The AI has appreared to be stable after any save.

As I have stated previously, those waiting on the 1.2 patch to come out before buying are missing out on a great game and getting a jump on learning the mechanics, strategies and nuances. I for one have gone from using advisors for everything to only using the trade advisor. It gives players a full range of management options depedning on player preference. The tactical battles are so much fun. The grand strategy and treaty writing also. Winning a war and writing a treaty is almost like having Christmas after each war. Can't wait to see what I can get next type of thing.

Anyway that's this fan boy's opinion. How do you like my suit? Can't wait for patch to come out and restart of PBEM. Hope to meet you all soon at the diplomacy table of COG.

Cyrano~ -> RE: Should I buy Now, or wait (12/17/2005 4:44:04 AM)

I got the game a couple days ago and I'm not dissapointed. Very engrossing, interesting and rather complex game. Oh it's fun too [:)]
Very different from RTW. Even though both are strategy games, after a few turns RTW becomes routine with a non existing economic/diplomatic model to it [>:]

Good post...

The game is well worth playing with warts and all as is. Perfect? Nope. Fun as hell anyways? Yep. Each beta patch has made the game a bit better in either the play and/or the 'eye/ear candy' departments.

I've enjoyed the game against the AI and against others using tcp/ip. Noting quite as enjoyable as using a secret as opposed to a public treaty to get an AI country to declare a war on an unsuspecting human opponent leaving them wondering what the heck happened... [;)][:D]
