Bill Durrant -> War Report - 15th January 1923 (1/27/2006 11:23:31 PM)

Okay we are back - today another merchant raider was spotted near Singapore heading for the Malacca Straits. Latest technology in the form of aeroplanes was used from Singapore and reported one bomb hit - we are unsure of the damage caused.

Well, damage wasn't so bad. Until today, when more planes came back to finish the job:

Dutch and British warships bombarded our troops at Samarinda today. Apparently they didn't take well to our taking their town from them.

Nope, nothing happening in Korea. All a figment of your imagination...

In other news, US submarine S-32 was reported sunk today. That makes a grand total of TWO enemy submarines sunk since the beginning of the war...[:@]

Bill Durrant -> A word of caution (1/28/2006 6:23:40 PM)

A word of caution to future Allied players. I have been making great plans knowing for some time that I would be receiving a large amount of AKs and Tks at Mare Island all in one go.

Well they arrived - all with 10 sys damage[:(]

Terminus -> RE: A word of caution (1/28/2006 8:52:11 PM)

Send them over, and I'll take care of the remaining 90...[:D]

Tankerace -> RE: A word of caution (1/28/2006 10:17:01 PM)

Is it 1/23 in your game? The reason they have 10 sys damage is when they get in theater, they loose their Lewis Machine guns and get 3 and 5 inchers.

Same thing should be happening to Terminus too.

Southeast of Midway, commerce raider Okuni Maru came upon a small US convoy during the night, and whilst she savaged the two escorting destroyers (sinking one), she wasn't able to engage the real prize, the two tankers.

Other than that, Operation Kick The Chinese In The Kneecaps has been announced and will commence as soon as we're ready.

Zakhal -> RE: War Report 3rd February 1923 (1/30/2006 1:23:50 AM)

Looks like commerce raiding is a failed idea. All that is needed is few destroyers and the convoy is perfectly safe. Seems like CL marus cant scratch a DD even.

Perhaps one should try it on auto-convoys? I assume they dont always have DD escorts.

Terminus -> RE: War Report 3rd February 1923 (1/30/2006 1:28:22 AM)

They can scratch DD's, as witnessed by the fact that I sank one and severely damaged another a few turns back. But, that said, all you have to do to be safe from your opponent's commerce raiders is to sail in large, escorted convoys. Which is historically accurate.

As for the Auto Convoy system being more vulnerable, that might be true. The AI doesn't always make "sensible" convoys.

Terminus -> RE: War Report 4th February 1923 (1/30/2006 3:07:49 PM)

A busy turn. American submarine R-3 became the third enemy boat to sink, followed later by the destroyer Reno.

The main event was another little skirmish at Soerabaja which resulted in the destruction of the remaining Dutch surface ships in the DEI, as the coastal defence ships De Ruyter, Hertog Hendrik, De Zeven Provincien and Jacob van Heemskerck were all sunk, accompanied to the bottom by the British destroyer Winchelsea.

On land, the town of Anshan's Chinese garrison was ejected and the place secured in a ferocious frontal assault.

Just out of curiousity - have you guys updated to 1.20 (1.15 etc etc etc)? Has it caused any issues since your PBEM obviously started under 1.00?

Terminus -> RE: Game versions (2/1/2006 5:06:42 PM)

Yes, we've both upgraded fully. And there have been effects; we got slammed when 1.15 came out, because one of us hadn't upgraded whilst the other had, and that made the turn crash when I tried to run it. This issue was resolved once we both used the same version. I had 1.20 earlier than Bill (being a beta tester and all), but that caused no problems.
