DId MST 3000 ever spoof this movie? What ever happened to that show anyway?

Edit: I did notice that this movie was up for a Saturn award though as best foriegn film.

no, i was really hoping they would.

MST3K finally ended after 9 or so seasons (Joel had escaped already. Mike and the Robots escaped the Satellite of Love, returned to Earth and spent all their free time watching bad movies on late night TV...)

There is a Highlander movie in production (Highlander: The Source), but it is a continuation of the TV series with Adrian Paul as the lead.

Making another Highlander movie? This has got to be the definition of the term "beating it to death with a stick."

Let's see. There were three "original" Highlander movies w/Lambert. Three TV series, one w/Adrian Paul as lead (six seasons), one w/Elizabeth Gracen as lead (one season) and one animated (one season apparently). One crossover movie with Paul and Lambert. And the current in production movie which is an Adrian Paul vehicle from what I've heard, continueing the first TV series.

There is also Highland: Vengeance (in the works...)

I had heard rumors that Panzer/Davis were trying for a trilogy of Adrian Paul-Highlander movies but until IMDb lists them as "in production" they're just another one of a billion ideas floating around Hollyweird as far as I'm concerned.

Actually, the evil monkey is one of the flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz. Seems MGM has kept him on contract and its the only work he could get as he is now type cast.

Ah, MST3K......

quote:

[Tom's poem, "A Child's Christmas in Space"]
Tom Servo: It's quiet in the cold of our own little orbit, starless and Bible black. And as I look down on the big blue beam we would call home I think it so near, yet... oh, I wish on that star and I hope that in a little snow-covered house with a warm hearth and a loving family, maybe some kid is looking up tonight and wishing upon us. Oh, and how I hope sweet Santa will fly by tonight because if he does I'm gonna reach right out and hug that big guy. Oh, for the sound of hooves against the steel hull of the ship. Oh, to see the rosy face of Santa in the portal offering me a Coke and a smile... [gradually gets more and more upset and hysterical]
Tom Servo: ... of course, his cheeks would be rosy because there's a vacuum out there, I mean Santa's heart would explode. But he wouldn't feel it because the capillaries in his brain would pop like little firecrackers...
Joel Hodgson: Tom...
Tom Servo: ...due to the blood boiling away in his face like pudding in a copper... OH THE HUMANITY.
Joel Hodgson, Crow: Tom.
Tom Servo: And his jolly old belly would start bubbling like a roasted marshmallow, eyes bulging and popping out... AND THE REINDEER - OH THE REINDEER. - keep floating like holiday floats and in turn exploding in a hail of blood and entrails. Prancer - BOOM. Dancer - BOOM.
Joel Hodgson: HEY.
Crow: Tom.
Joel Hodgson: Tom take it easy, Santa's gonna be okay, buddy.
Tom Servo: You sure?
Joel Hodgson: Yeah, give him a little credit, okay?
Tom Servo: Phew, what a relief.

Before MGM tied him to a contract I saw him play Lear with the RSC at Stratford..........unsurpassed.

I heard his Othello had to be seen to be believed.

Ah, classic MST3K. I miss it.

I remember one movie they did was a western. During a particularly dramatic point two guys are riding across the range in a hurry when they see something lying in the grass and stop. They begin a dialog about it at which point MST3K guys "dub over".
MST3K guy #1: "what is that thing Tom."
MST3K guy #2: "I'm not sure, but it sure is large and obvious."
MST3K guy #1: "I know, I think its a plot point."
MST3K guy#2: "Well, what should we do with it?"
MST3K guy #1: "I don't know, but don't trip over it."

Yes, Othello had the critics raving. Still, the money was slow to come in and he had to resort to those Old Spice commercials to feed his pack. Then of course, there was the cocaine addiction. Such a sad story.

MST3K?

MST3K = Mystery Science Theater 3000. Originally started by Joel Hodgson (a stand-up comedian) in the 80's. It featured various puppet robots including Tom Servo (made from a gumball machine) and Crow (part bowling pin, part lacrosse racket) who would sit with Joel and kibitz on bad movies...

Well, it was carried only on the SciFi (cable) channel and then Comedy Channel (another cable channel)... so it never was in syndication, and never on broadcast TV (except in Minnesota, iirc where it was originally made.)

They did have a fairly successful movie, though, although it wasn't widely released (they lampooned "This Planet Earth", iirc.

EDIT: another problem is that they got into a big fight as to who owned the rights, so many of the original shows are "lost" right now.

It happened at a different time in broadcast history. Prior to cable hitting it big there were dozens of these low budget shows being played on public access TV. I think MST3K grew out of one of these shows and Comedy Central picked it up when it started to get big.

I had a former boss here in Colorado that did one of these Public Access shows with her husband who was a local actor and producer. I don't recall the name of the show, but it was something of a cross between Americas Funniest Home Videos and MST3K. It was actually quite funny and had a bit of a cult following around here. My boss played "Cookie, the whore next door", something I usually didn't mention during performance review time.

I had heard that the movie didn't get great reviews, but then again, what do cirtics know?

You are correct, the show originated in Minneapolis. I think Joel produced the first one from his garage.

Maybe because Wayne's World was supposed to be a Public Access TV show (which is how MST3K started...) Or was this just a rhetorical question???

Robert, let me know what you think. I'm feeling a burst of Nostalgia coming over me. I will have to find these old shows and watch some of them. Right after I get done with Space 1999. lol

T, you're not far off, a lot of these shows looked a lot like Wayne's World, which of course is the phenomenon that Waynes World was paroding.
