BB's Alabama, Washington and North Carolina delivered their fiery message to Wake.....it seems to me that the enemy return fire has diminished. Maybe I have timed this invasion just right. Normally my ships receive 5-15 return hits but not anymore:

If this is the case it will be a good indicator for future invasions.

The landings should go in in 2 days time.

5th Base Force positions received a hammering from my DS. A further 400+ men were hit.

SS Thresher obtained a nice catch today. She was moving past Lombok, (did you know there is a Furniture chain of that name too now) on her way to the Soerabaja area, when her SJ Radar detected a lone ship in the early morning hours. She stealthily closed and happily saw an innocent Minelayer. She lined up 4 stern tubes and fired! 1 of which seemed to hit and the small ships totally vanished from view in a cloud of fire and smoke.......ML Maeshima is no more............

Air sightings = 15
Air attacks = 1

Burma moves on.........

This is what I mean. Recon indicates 3 units leaving the Moulmein area probably bound for Rangoon. Also Mandalay's troop level dropped by 8000 men and 300 vehicles = has to be 3rd Tank Division. This unit also appears to be moving to Rangoon. This can't be coincidence..........I hope none of you guys are tipping him off please

This may change my future operation. I may also not disclose future plans just in case there is a spy.

P.S. I'm currently reading "Court of the Red Tsar" by Simon Sebag-Montefiore = suspicion and paranoia are everywhere

I will probably attack at Mandalay soon due to the changing situation there:

Ground combat at Mandalay

Attacking force 159628 troops, 1435 guns, 1379 vehicles, Assault Value = 3973

Defending force 198747 troops, 745 guns, 265 vehicles, Assault Value = 3830

Speedy, I follow this AAR as well as Faber's AAR very closely. No one says anything that may disclose or even hint at any nasty ops you are planning or any righteous ops Faber is doing (in order to right any wrongs you've done ). If there's anything "fishy" going on, it's in PMs.

Now, now Speedy... such an EVIL plan shouldn't be posted without an EVIL laughter!

Hi VSWG - Thanks. I am more wary now. Faber appears to have moved in 6 units to Rangoon now! We'll see how tomorrow goes.

Today was a day of frustration in the undersea war:

SS Grouper fired 6 torpedoes at CVL Ryujo 60 miles SE of Soerabaja.......they hit but did not detonate

SS Tactician and SS Stonehenge were both attacked by enemy SC TF DD'as in the Malacca Strait. Both suffered 1 near miss DC - 6/0/0.

SS Peto was attacked by convoy escorts 300 miles north of Pagan. 2 x DC landed nearby - 11/0/0

SS Aspro sank AP Eihuku Maru with 3 torpedo hits 180 miles NE of Guam. Enemy troops were aboard..............

Air sightings = 15
Air attacks = 0

Massive air attacks on IJA troops positions around Mandalay.

The Allied forces ahve been given orders for a general attack tomorrow....we shall see.

With enemy SC TF's spotted in the Malacca Strait I have decided to move out my British CV's in a vain effort to engage them near Victoria Point.

Tenimbar Island was captured by 4th USMC Para's today. As it's empty they will be picked up by Commando's tomorrow.

Roti Island near Koepang was occupied by scouts of 164th RCT.

Wake Island was smashed again today by a BB Division and CV air. Little response from the enemy.

The transports and men go ashore tomorrow!

WE WILL RETURN!

Status: offline 		I had read somewhere in the forum that Akyab was a supply line terminal heading both north and south; that the Allies couldn't supply troops south of the base and the Japanese couldn't supply troops north of the base. Is there any truth to that?

To be serious here (believe it or not) I've always found that the recon reports of troops are much less than reality. Have you done enough recon of Rangoon to get some numbers?

Status: offline 		Akyab was a hell hole. Very poor lines of entry to it from both north, south and north-east.

IIRC from reading Allen's book there were some key roads/hills just ouitside Akyab itself which controlled who could keep Akyab itself.

The area was infested with jungle, disease and wild animals etc. Not the ideal place for warfare.
