It seems to me that waste is a great equalizer in the game making it easier for the weak to gang up on the strong.

After reading the Relegh guides...

With textiles you get 90% waste after 10 items produced.
With iron and cotton you get 90% waste after 60 items produced.
With luxuries, spice, wine, horses, timber, you get 90% waste after 30 items produced.

For example wine.

You produce 10, you get 10 wine.
You produce 30, you get 20 wine because 50% waste kicks in for 11-30 wine.
You produce 40 wine, you only get 21 wine because of 90% waste kicking in.
You produce 50 wine, you only get 22 wine.

Your economy is on a self defeating treadmill?????

Money, labour, food and wool don't suffer from waste. I'm not 100% sure on money.

What if you focused your economic development on farms & banks, your labour mostly on "agriculture" and "textiles" to produce waste free food & wool.

Then trade food, wool & money to the AI for stuff at the 90% waste threshold. It seems like a better way to structure your economy.

Your right. Was playing with 1.1.0 on the weekend and getting courts & culture developments up to 3 for Turkey didn't reduce my textile waste.

I noticed factories didn't give development bonuses for textiles.

Looking at the 1.2.?? notes... ...looks like you have to "waste" a lot of money, labor and luxuries building up courts and culture to eliminate waste.

***************************
* NEW WASTE RULES *
***************************

Waste is now a reduction in the amount of resources produced by provinces a nation controls. Waste is calculated based on the total number of provinces a player controls; provinces with Court developments at a level greater than or equal to 5 do not contribute toward waste. Waste is 3% per province controlled in excess of twenty provinces; so, for example, controlling 35 provinces results in a 30% loss of production due to waste: 45% = 3% x (35-20).

Province under protectorate do not contribute toward waste.

Provinces with Culture development levels greater than or equal to 5, and provinces with Courts greater than or equal to 7, are not affected at all by a nation's level of waste.

The other great "equalizer" in the game is the artificial ceilings put on resource stockpiles, especially cash. These, coupled with the waste factor, make playing the game not-fun. I mean, why bother to conquer the world, if every province you take puts you in a worse position?

The larger the empire is the harder it is to control. Instead of incorporating every province on the map into France proper, give them protectorate (satellite) status. This let's them build divisions to add to your army at no cost to you. They do not contribute to waste. I protectorate as many non-french provinces as possible.

Except Saxony...they produce a lot of horses. I always keep that one to myself.

I hadn't noticed that they produce lots of horses, I'll have to look at that. But I'm never short of horses anyway. Yet, in my current game with Saxony as a protectorate, I have 3 corps of just Saxon divisions. In fact I created a Saxon army with only Saxon corps. Didn't cost me anything but building the containers. More valuable than the horses don't you think?

In my last turn of 1.1.0 I was producing 81 textiles with waste of 64. Good riddance old waste rules.

I can live with 9% waste. Makes it a lot easier to produce textiles for advanced units.

I think I would protectorate the german provinces that make up federations that give you the jager infantry. As a rule of thumb, I think would incorporate into my empire, provinces that are really good at producing something, so I can build developments to boost productivity and roads to increase population size.

I figured out what to do with the provinces that you start out with that aren't really good at producing something... ...they become my slave labour provinces.

What happens when you let your armies plunder provinces that are good wine producers?
