I'm stuck playing the AI right now as work doesn't allow me a steady enough schedule to commit to PBEM. And I've put off playing any more until the patch comes out. Any news?

Unfortuneatly no. We seem to be waiting on Erik at the moment. I know its not comforting, but you know as much as I do for the moment. The patch is done, its just a matter of getting an installer, testing it (shouldn't take long), and getting it out to you folks.

Well could you please ask Erik to do his job if it isn't too awfully inconvenient for him? I paid for a game that I now cannot use since the AI is twiddling it's thumbs.

Well, a couple of things here (to set the record straight). Erik (and if you don't know I mean Erik Rutins) works on more than just this game, and hes been swamped.

However, look at the bright side. I rushed 1.15 out to address all the issues that came to light (a few AI goofs, OOB inaccuracies, typos, etc). And unfortuneatly, in the rush to get it out, it borked the AI in many of the scenarios. With 1.2, given the delay, I've been able to do much more extensive testing (Say a 5 month AI vs AI game), and I think you'll be pleased.

As to the AI twitling its thumbs (or is it twiddle... eh, I dunno), it is passive to an extent, but it does secure its objectives. Its not bad. Now, I will freely admit that it won't hold a candle to what you are getting in 1.2 (Let me put it this way. By Early November, the Japanese AI secured all of Luzon but Legaspi, Mindanao, some of the smaller islands in the area, began an invasion of borneo, and took Wake and Midway, and was preparing to invade the Hawaiian islands. The Allied AI, besides reinforcing Pearl, split its fleet between Pearl and Noumea, and invaded one of the Marshall islands, and at the end of the test was landing troops to retake Midway). So as to being unable to use the game, I think that's a bit extreme. Now if it were me, I'd play it as is to get a feel for the game, then restart for the OOB changes (which there are a ton of). Its not like War Plan Orange was broken at release. I'm not saying I like the fact that some AI bugs slipped through, or that I (and I alone) broke the AI in some scenarios in 1.15, but I stand behind my product 100%.

However, as I was until recently a sole AI player, if Erik cannot get the patch this week, I will release the new AI part of the scenarios in a separate download. You won't get the OOB changes, but you will be able to play with the new AI. However, I have emailed Erik, and I am sure he'll get to the patch when he can. Believe me, nobody wants it out more than me. But, look at it this way, at least with WPO patches, you get about 10 new things for every bug fix. That's nothing to sneeze at

Thank you for all the hard work you are doing to support and improve this game. Right from the start, the way you have approached development has been refreshingly open and transparent.

All issues are fixed very quickly compared to any game I have seen before and it is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the quick response. I do appreciate that. If I appear frustrated, I am. I have been jonesing for this title for quite some time. It covers a subject which interests me greatly. I finally decided to take the plunge and downloaded it last weekend. You'd stated that the AI patch would be released on Mon. so I felt that would give me a day or two to explore the game before starting a serious campaign. Well, frankly I've found the game so inviting that I'm chomping at the bit to begin!
So you see, your game has created a monster. In other words, you're a victim of the good job you've done on WPO.

Funny thing, I just noticed you're down there in Talequah. I never would've guessed someone from OK would've come up with a game this cool.

Cheers to tankerace for all his hard work and dedication!

I have to confess though that while waiting for the patch to be released I fooled around with the Spartan demo and well, you are now looking at the proud owner of both Spartan and Gates of Troy!

I am having a blast with these two titles. Great fun!

So many great games....so little time....

I gotta say tanker your dedicated support is enough of a seller to me!!

Good stuff and keep the faith -- your attitude is very refreshing in this market when things are released and that's all that is done for a title...

I won't say for certain. This weekend is looking good, but no guarantees.

The release should be either Sunday night or Monday night, depending on a few factors, but no later than that.

Regards,

- Erik
