An IJN sub tries to attack a USN battleship on the surface. 31 12" shells later, it regrets that mistake.

I've never seen a capital ship dispense that much main caliber ammo - usually it saves 3 shots per barrel as emergency supply. Carolina is down to half that much.

The first invasion of Ponape fails miserably as a IJA regiment is found on the island.

Despite nice work by American gunners, Asahikawa battle is turning more and more sour. Almost half of 4th division was killed upon disembarkment. Not disabled, killed completely. You'd think 40,000 troops already on the ground would have secured a beachhead.
